Mulligans
This is my first attempt at making my all-time favourite deck, zoo. I’ve decided to take a more classic route as I enjoy the play style more than the healing zoo.
WIth the new addition of cards like Crystallizer, soul infusion, the soularium, nethersoul buster and doubling imp, I believe these cards could fit in the classic shell seamlessly and provide a more powerful mid-range zoo than we’ve ever seen before.
The synergies and classic battle for the board scenario fits the deck to a tee and offers some unfair turns. Crystallizer and any self-harm minion pairs perfectly with nethersoul buster and can offer a hearty threat almost immediately on turn 3 with the coin. The minion itself will almost always be a 3/5 if you have to tap, which is not bad at all. With all the self harm, I decided to also put in one hooked reaver for another immediate threat and added taunt. The card is replaceable though with possibly a silence effect, depending on the meta.
Soul infusion on ANY minion is an immediate threat, but try to maneuver it in a way so it will land on great targets like doubling imp or saronite chain gang. If these minions have already been buffed by keleseth, ADDED bonus!
I’ve opted for the leeroy version and double sea giant as I like the board presence and sudden burst at the end without any discards. The leeroy soulfire will always guarantee 10 or even higher if a buff has been in place on leeroy. Sea giants are just great to cheat out and offer another win condition.
I’ve also offered my favourite card in any expansion – Deathspeaker. It’s a great card for zoo and should be a staple. Either a two or one of. I’m a strong advocate for it in all zoo builds as it is essentially saving a minion as you trade and win the board. Typical zoo card.
Soularium does match up to the hype and often you can play 2 or even 3 of the cards you draw later in the game. Sometimes you are forced to play it on turn 5 looking for that immediate answer or specific card. Don’t be afraid. But in most cases, it should be used to find that finishing blow or added damage.
I’m still experimenting with different zoo builds, but this is what I have come up with so far. There are a number of flex slots like the void ripper, hooked reaver, one sea giant, etc. So, replacements can range from spellbreaker, fledgling, dark iron dwarf or fire flies to get your sea giants online further as well or even glacial shard for a tempo swing.
So far this has worked for me and I’ll continue experimenting. If anyone has any questions, let me know! I’ll answer just like in my odd rogue build. Stay tuned, I’m going to be making a new odd rogue list soon, too! Zoo is still my favourite deck, though, 7000 wins and counting!
Here are some more game plays which can teach people about the basics. For example, here is a classic Zoo vs Zoo match up. I win both here and it shows what exactly you need to do in terms of controlling the board and also when to go face and positioning. It shows that this deck matches up against heal zoo quite nicely and can win fairly often as well even when victory doesn’t seem possible. I manage to come back in both match ups even when they drew keleseth way before me and cheated out ghouls as well.

I have one question. Why void ripper I opted it out for a spellbreaker since it gets rid of the annoying magnetized mecha and taunts.
Yes, that’s certainly a good tech option especially if you’re running up against certain decks. I use void ripper just because it’s a good card in general for all match ups. I might use a spellbreaker myself but will probably take out another card instead. I’m doing well now though, rank 19 legend.
How far did you get with this deck ? It seams I m stuck at rank 15 with it 🙁
I’m at rank 19 legend right now with it. There are subtle plays to this deck and not as straight forward as people think.
What are you finding your losing against most?
Just wanted to provide a link to some gameplay here that I did against the new spell mage. I think I played it pretty well here, will teach a few basics at how to play around secrets and to ensure you win. If you have any questions, let me know!
