The Watch Posts are essential and can win you unfavorable match-ups like Garrote Rogue and Quest Mage and totally tilt things in your favor with Lifesteal DH and every Combo Druid. Try to mulligan for them and stick it early on the board to either snowball, or burn some of the essential resources of the opponent while slowing them down a turn or 2. In other board based match-ups you can put the post as a bait early, the opponent will either sink some dmg into it, or ignore it and let it gain stats while controlling your board. That's when the Stockades Guard comes in play, giving you a huge taunt out of the jacked up post.

The Stockades tech can even help you in other critical scenarios, serving as a soft enabler for Lord Barov (giving him taunt and denying face dmg in most cases), or going along with Lady Liadrin to set her up as a buffed up taunt in a turn when you are usually very vulnerable. The idea is to be really greedy with this 1 drop.
