Flame Ward is by far the best early game check mage has right now. It would be nice to run as many as possible. Ancient Mysteries is sometimes dead, but sometimes saves you vs. aggro. I think that trade off is probably worth it.
What might not be worth it is that, according to my math, ~12% of the time, (assuming mulliganing 2 cards) you will draw Reno the Relicologist by turn 6, but not Ancient Mysteries/Flame Ward by turn 5 – meaning that he isn’t live on curve. Given that he’s a huge part of the reason to play this deck, this package might be a little dumb.
Tortollan Pilgrim + Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron + Power of Creation is probably wrong, but it’s cute for day 1, and it lets you play Sunreaver Warmage, which is nice. If you can find something to cut you can toss in King Phaoris for some over the top late game tempo vs. control. It’s very powerful with Luna's Pocket Galaxy, so maybe it isn’t awful.
