What are the most common misplays with Dragon Priest? I just keep losing to pretty much anything. Too often the games go to me top decking and hoping for answers, usually not drawing them. I also often run into problem of having or drawing just useless cards, no dragon synergies what so ever.
I’ve been practicing with this deck second day now and I’m getting better with all the synergies. My most often misplays are: Using Dragon Fire Potion and Killing my own non-dragon minions without getting value for them. So be careful. Another: Sometimes I hold back Acidic Swamp Ooze for later in the game because I’m up against Warrior or Rogue, but the weapon doesn’t come till late. By them I’ve lost the board anyway.
Other times I misplay dragon synergies by playing all dragons at the same time out of desperation, and so may miss a taunt activation. At the mulligan, if you get a high mana dragon in your hand, more than likely keep it. Especially if you have Netherspite Historian and or Wyrmrest Agent. If on turn one Twilight Whelp is the only Dragon in my hand, I don’t play it. I always keep Twilight Whelp as my “holding” dragon synergies, or I choose a high mana dragon, 8 and above from Netherspite Historian.
Your best weapons in the mid game are Dragonid Operative, Blackwing Corrupter and Dragonfire Potion. At turn 5, depending on the opponent’s board i play either Blackwing or Dragonid depending on what i want to get done: Against Rogue, you may get a zero mana combo activation with Dragonid, or you may need to take out a 3 hp opponent with Blackwing. Be careful with Dragonfire Potion, that comes on turn 6. You can take out your Blackwing and other non dragon minions.
I like this deck and I’m having fun with it. I’m not keeping official score but for a new player (maybe 6 weeks), I’m winning more than losing. I’m only in casual though as I’m learning. Now, sometimes you’re gonna lose, it’s just the way it is. Sometimes you don’t have the cards and your opponent does.
cut both priest of the feast . you don’t run enough spells to justify it. run one cleric and one azure drake, playing through this deck you never run out of cards and 5 five drops is enough.cut one kabal talonpriest it’s a fantastic win more card.(if your board is sticking your deck is functioning already).
this frees up five slots. double blackwing technician ,one acidic swamp ooze, one twilight drake and ragnoros.
right now ladder is pirate warrior, reno lock, jade druid, reno dragon priest ,mid range shaman, control warrior and tempo mage.
almost always play for tempo, your deck naturally generates enough value. like taking down elise warrior in fatigue value.

Defender of Argus over Priest of the Feast. Amazing card in this deck. I prefer Technician over Talonpriest, both have their merits but if you’re playing from behind (on an empty board) then Tech > Talon.
I actually went with your first suggestion and have been doing really well so far (thank you for that, btw!). If you put in two Defenders of Argus, what would you swap out from your updated list? (The one with Twilight Drake, two Blackwing Techs, etc in your original comment.) Thanks in advance!
I should have have said feels good to punish pirate warrior. its actually not amazing in this deck if your pirate opponent value trades your early game minions with the help of his weapon. it is good to help you value trade into 4 attack minions.
I was running one in place of twilight drake, but I went back to the original list.
on a complete tangent today Ive been trying to make jade nzoth rogue work in an agressive meta. it’s been a little bit painful.
I hope the list serves you well .change tech as you climb certain decks seem to hover around certain ranks.
What did you end up swapping out for Argus from your original 5? How about Harrison versus Ooze? (sorry just opened one up and I’ve been sad that the meta is now too fast to use him)
Gonna throw my 2 cents here instead of further up (sorry): Full disclaimer, I’ve not played more than 10 games with your changes and I’ve never hit legend. I have been playing Dragon Priest since beginning of TGT and it’s been my favorite deck to play.
I agree with your opinion on Priest of Feast being bad in this deck (Only 8 spells in deck, 2 of which near-kills it). If the meta keeps venturing in the aggro direction I think it is worth mentioning running a single Gr. Pot of Healing to survive the aggro/midrange decks until you can drop more taunts/aoe, or to push yourself out of lethal even just one more turn.
Your changes: -1 Azure, -2 PoFeast, -1 K. Talonpriest, -1 Northshire. +2 B-Wing Tech, +1 Rag, +1 ooze, +1 Twi-drake. Only change I disagree with is Twi-drake… Again, really only good when drawn on-curve, terrible top-deck, and holds as much value as whelp for dragon procs in lategame. I’ve just had bad experiences with it in my decks, personally. Tons of potential value but only works in my favor 1/4 of the time.
My idea of change: Remove Northshire, replace w/ Acolyte (guaranteed 1 card replacement or eats a hard-removal). Swap Twi-drake for Def or additional Book Wyrm
I cut twilight drake for one argus when testing it. I cut northshire for abusive when testing. I found that there is a fine line with how much draw I can cut and still have a smooth running deck . the acolyte idea is interesting hadn’t considered it.
Im’ stil not off the twilight drake train myself.
I can’t comment on gr pot of healing, I don’t know.

Forgot to mention also tested abusive sergeant and dark iron dwarf, the sergeant performed very well getting value trades with one 1/3’s and 2/3’s while continuing to develop a board. worked well with argus too. the dwarf felt a little clunky.
Not really, 1 mana 2/3 are too good against aggro and add to the whole dragon synergy concept and corruptors help you gain tempo killing stuff for free and are one of the main reasons dragon decks exist. Whatever you put instead of those will weaken the deck a lot.
As a mostly F2P player I understand having difficulty getting all the cards needed for any given deck but since Twilight Welp and Corruptor are commons I’d highly recommend just biting the bullet and crafting them. Daily quests and the 10 gold from three wins plus tavern brawl should get you enough dust to craft them soon since it’s only 160 total. Best of luck.
It’s unfortunate, but if you wanna play any dragon synergy deck you’re buying BRM even though it’ll cycle out in the next few months. Pretty much where it got introduced and has the most synergy cards. Whelp is necessary for early board presence and IMO northshire is just not strong enough to fit its place (1-mana with 2-drop stats is amazing, and still triggers dragon).
Best sub you could make is a 2nd book wyrm for Corruptor, maybe abusive or Excavated.
IMO I think Holy nova is too good to not run at least one copy in Priest. Only reason it would fall out of favor is against buff pally due to too many buffs. I’d run at least one entomb (so my change: -2 Northshire, +1 Holy Nova, +1 Entomb). Silence effects are awesome in the 4-6 mana slot and pretty much acts as a soft-removal, especially with Goon buffs going around, so you can run Songstealer instead of Entomb, but LoE cycles out in one year so the dollars would be worth it.
Northshire used to be amazing because it handles 1/1’s and 2/1’s very effectively (good for a draw in more controlling matchups, too).
I’ve gotten a lot more use out of a second book wyrm than I think I would out of Ysera. You can easily get an end-game threat via Drakonid Operative or Netherspite Historian if you’re playing a slower deck.
Is this deck better than amazs dragon priest? If so in what ways is it better?

So, what is the optimal dragon priest deck with all the suggested modifications?
Would Wrathion fit into this deck? If so, how?
Wrathion is going to usually only be a single draw so with weak stats it’s not that great for the cost.
So should I dust him? :’D
I’d still wait on it, it’s still pretty early to be dusting cards.
Kind of sad he is not good I opened a golden one of him

tested argus, feels good man.

Too many 4’s I assume. Abusive sergeant sounds fun, imagine the interaction with Brann too. What did you take out for him?
Can i replace twilight welp and blackwing corruptor?
Maybe Mana Geode for Whelp, Twilight Drake, Kabal Songstealer for Corruptor.

I don’t think you can craft whelp and corrupter since they are black rock mountain cards.
I am very dumb. My bad. Apologies, OP!
Craft the goldens! They’re only 400 dust 😉

i personally feel with all the new powers for this deck that northshire can easily be replaced for more options now does anyone else agree?
yeup.. Maybe a blackwing tech(s) or Holy Nova
IMO I think Holy nova is too good to not run at least one copy in Priest. Only reason it would fall out of favor is against buff pally due to too many buffs. Got everything except a second Dragonfire potion – any tips on replacement?
Holy Nova, Excavated Evil, or you could try a second Book Wyrm.
Haha, yeah I was being dumb – of course. Thanks!
I put in Ysera of course! Can’t have a Dragon Priest without Ysera in your deck!
My man! ;D
I’ve gotten a lot more use out of a second book wyrm than I think I would out of Ysera. You can easily get an end-game threat via Drakonid Operative or Netherspite Historian if you’re playing a slower deck.
