Mulligans
EDIT : Alright guys thanks for the support and the feedback I didn’t think I would get upvoted so much !
I have made the replacements section and add stome stuff here and there but I will add more when I have more time !
Fun and viable deck for the start of the season ! Will take your opponents off guard !
GOAL OF THE DECK
Very simple you want to silence your big minions (Ancient Watcher & Humungous) to get control of the board and set up a big burst with Divine Spirit + Inner Fire combo.
You have plenty of card draw, especially with Clerics + Circle
And plenty of ways to buff your minions’ life ! Shadow Visions are keys in the deck since they help you finding your combo faster and you can also adapt your gameplan depending what deck you’re facing.
If everything goes well and you have the good draws, you can close a game REALLY fast and by really fast I mean turn 4 or 5. Against control, you generally don’t want the game to go over 10 turns. Against aggro, you want to survive first but can also race them if you have a really good start.
Globally you want to keep the control of the board with overstated silenced minions and pressure your opponent with a potential combo each turn. Your hero power is therefore very important to use correctly since you want minions alive on the board with enough health. When you have 2 or more minions, don’t be afraid of “bad” trades if you can keep a minion with high health unharmed.
DRAGON SOUL
Let’s talk about this card a bit
I absolutely wanted to try it but it is really hard to make a deck it. Silence priest was the perfect candidate taking into account all the cheap spells it has.
But let’s be clear here : the deck would be BETTER without this weapon. But it’s so FUN to pull it out !
And not that hard. You can keep this card on mulligan if you have coin and if you’re not against aggro. Then things start to be funny : you can potentially get a 5/5 dragon on turn 4 even on turn 3 if you : weapon for 3 + coin + 0 mana silence + 1 mana spell (silencing and buffing the Watcher you ideally had on turn 2) and not a lot of opponent can deal with that.
So yes the weapon can be very strong and can help you close out the games faster. BUT it’s a terrible topdeck when you have not enough spells in hand or when you’re searching your inner fire or 2nd divine spirit for a lethal combo. It’s also hard to pull off without the coin.
Oh well it is quite fun though and it helped me close a few games in a fashionable way. SO IM KEEPIN IT
Tips :
Radiant Elemental is really important to keep if you have the weapon and want to use it.
It is sometimes better to hold a silence to get the combo going. Eg : you drop watcher on turn 2, you play Dragon Soul on turn 3 and have a silence but no other cheap spells to play. You can wait and not silence the watcher now but wait the turn 4 to play 3 spells and get the 5/5.
VS AGGRO
You want to keep control of the board. Mulligan for Cleric obviously, PW:S, Potion of madness and minions to silence. Dont be afraid to Divine spirit + inner fire something if you can get a good trade out of it. If the enemy smorc and let you buff a minion’s life, you can punish him with Faceless Shambler. (turn 3 Humongous + turn 4 Faceless is nice)
VS CONTROL
You want to set up your Divine spirit + Inner fire combo. You can one shot someone pretty easily if you manage to get enough draws early game and/or if you find the combo quickly which isn’t that hard with the help of Shadow Visions.
Vs Warlock the 0 mana silence is REALLY good. Try to purify your minions and keep the Silence for the inevitable Voidlord who can be very annoying to get through otherwise. The game should be closed by turn 9.
REPLACEMENTS
The deck is still in working progress, I’m trying stuff. In this version I’m not sure about the Pain and the Kabal. Also, 2 Circles are maybe too much but you can get so much draw value from them that I’ve decided to keep both for now.
Here are the cards that are not core :
HOLY SMITE – I’m not even sure if one is enough or too much but it helped me quite a lot against Secret Mage for instance, either for burning a Counterspell or to finish off an annoying 4/3 or 5/5. More generally it’s a flexible 1 mana spell and we love 1 mana spells !
PAIN – Maybe not needed but can be helpful sometimes to regain control of the board but can defenitely be replaced
KABAL TALONPRIEST – This card is in there cause I felt I HAD TO but can totally be replaced
CIRCLE OF HEALING (maybe just one ? I can’t imagine cutting both)
DRAGON SOUL – The main idea is to play this card because it’s fun, fancy and will give you beautiful children. But if you don’t have it or want the deck to be a bit more competitive then I guess you can replace it by one of the following cards…
INTERESTING CARDS THAT FIT IN
LYRA – I found Lyra a bit slow, it may not seem so but this deck want to close out the games really fast and keep the control of the board as much as possible so you will use your cheap spells a lot in the early turns and can’t really save them for later except if you have a really good draw.
That being said, Lyra is definetely a good candidate and you can add her if you want. But don’t be too greedy with it, especially versus aggro decks.
KABAL SONGSTEALER – Another really good candidate as it adds another silence AND a nice body to buff when you are short of minions
AUCHENAI – Works well with Circles, can be used if you’re facing a lot of Paladin, Hunter, or Zoo Warlock
There are probably more cards that could make the cut but I didn’t have time to try them out yet (Stormwind Knight ?!)
CONCLUSION
I’ve written this description really fast so everything may not be clear, and there is a lot more to say ! If you’re interested by the deck feel free to ask questions or give your suggestions =)
WORK IN PROGRESS
Drop holy smite or one circle of healing and add Lyra if your going with the weapon.
sorry for the previous message form.
i’m talking about faceless shambler and dragon soul.
hi, thanks for sharing your deck.
i don’t have Faceless Shambler and Dragon Soul.
can i replace them, and if so, with what ?
i could make them with dust i guess, but faceless shambler will disappear from standard mode soon i believe.
I have exactly the same situation. I replaced Dragon Soul by Lyra and the faceless Shambler by two Spell Stone. I didn’t tried yet I am not sure if it will worked out.
Hi grosoy !
Dragon Soul can be replaced easily even if it is the SOUL of the deck… (see what I did there?)
You can put Kabal Songstealer, Lyra or another cheap spell. I just updated the replacements section, you may want to check ^^
On the other hand, Faceless Shambler is a bit hard to replace since it can give you a BIG tempo play at turn 4 and especially at the turn 6 when you can Divine spirit something and Faceless it. There are a lot of situations where the card is really strong. Outside of this deck, I don’t know if the card is worth crafting, your dust, your choice 😉
I’d like to second Lyra and Songstealer. Songstealer ruins cube locks day and gets your huge innerfire dudes through and lyra is always fun when you have a spell heavy deck.
If you get hit by skulking geist sometimes Lyra can get you one mana spells that you’d lost.
Just gone 6-1 with it, round about rank 15 to 13. Pretty good in current meta. Dropped one Faceless for an Eater of Secrets. Not really used weapon yet. Great fun when it comes off. Turn 4 lethal on cube locks when the cards fall right.
Why no Lyra?
S K U L K I N G G E I S T doe.
AND psychic screammmm.
Definitely a fun idea! While it’s hard to predict how the nerfs will effect the meta, I think this will work well as a counter to cubelock. Plus there’s room to really play around with tech choices without sacrificing the core combo. I’ll definitely be playing around with this one
