Mulligans
So, what is the difference between this deck and a ‘standard’ secret mage deck?
Well…
+2 Doomsayer , -1 Firelands Portal -1 Ice Block .
Why?
Let’s consider the worst matchups: Murloc Paladin/Aggro Paladin.
The ‘current’ solutions are like lucky Primordial Gliph and Ice Block if you can survive to the mid-game.
I don’t think it’s a correct solution. Against Paladin you lose to Call to Arms or to an early strong board state. If you fall behind before the mid game, you lose. No way face damage can carry you, even with Ice Block.
Furthermore, you usually don’t want Ice Block from your Arcanologist .
“Hey, but with Doomsayer you make good matchups even worse!”
– Yeah, indeed. Of course, you don’t have one of your Firelands Portal . But, for example, against Lock, Ice Block is barely useless. So i think i can deal with it.
“What if i topdeck Doomsayer when i don’t need it?”
– It depends. Doomsayer is a great card, after Aluneth , for example, you may need a stall turn or something. When you start burning down your opponent, you want a Doomsayer your opponent has to deal with. Every time you play Aluneth, there’s a turn when you fall behind on board. Delaying opponent aggression is core in this strategy.
