Odd Paladin Deck List Guide – Boomsday – August 2018

Our Baku Odd Paladin deck list guide for The Boomsday Project expansion features one of the top lists for this archetype. This Paladin guide includes Mulligan Strategy, Gameplay Tips, Card Substitutions, and Combos/Synergies!

Introduction

Paladin as a class has been dominating the meta for the majority of Year of the Mammoth, and things hasn’t changed much during the early Year of the Raven. While early in The Witchwood it looked like Odd Paladin might be the best build of the class, it turned out that Even Paladin is simply better, and it became the dominant, #1 meta deck for a while.

However, the recent nerf patch has shaken things up quite significantly. With Call to Arms, one of the best tools in Even Paladin’s arsenal, getting nerfed to 5 mana, the card is no longer playable in that deck, which is a massive hit to the build’s viability.

At the same time, Odd Paladin remains exactly the same as it was before the nerfs. Even though it might now play Call to Arms, the card is not necessary, as paying 5 mana to summon three 1-drops doesn’t sound as good as paying 4 to summon three 2-drops.

Odd Paladin’s main power is the upgraded Hero Power activated by Baku the Mooneater. The deck is built around flooding the board all the time – with 2x 1/1 Hero Power and a bunch of other ways to summon multiple small minions, the deck takes advantage of all kinds of AoE buffs, even cards that were only used in Basic decks before, such as Raid Leader or Stormwind Champion.

This is a potential Boomsday version of the deck (credit to Zalae). It has yet to be refined, but if you are looking to try Odd Paladin in the new expansion this might be the way to go! We will be refining our lists and guides as soon as we can! The deck list after this one is the version that was used prior to the expansion.

Odd Paladin Mulligan Guide and Strategy

Mulligan with the deck is very similar no matter what deck you face.

Higher Priority (Keep every time)

  • 1-drops – in the order of highest to lowest priority – Lost in the JungleRighteous ProtectorFire FlyArgent Squire – You absolutely want to open each game with a 1-drop, that’s why you keep so many of them. You will most likely play Hero Power on Turn 2, then either a 3-drop or a Hero Power + another 1-drop on Turn 3 (the second option is more likely) – that’s why keeping more than one is fine.
  • Unidentified Maul – Your deck is heavily based around the board flooding, so basically 3 out of 4 effects of Unidentified Maul are good, and given that you should have up to 3 bodies going into your Turn 3, +1 Attack or Divine Shield options are very juicy even so early in the game. Taunt is the only mediocre option, but it’s still useful vs some aggressive decks.
  • Corridor Creeper – Who would have thought that the card will still be good after the nerfs. It’s so easy to get it down to 0 mana with this deck, and a 0 mana 2/5 is still a great tempo play.

Lower Priority (Keep only if certain conditions are met)

  • Acherus Veteran – Keep only if you have another 1-drop to play on T1 – Acherus is not great to drop on T1, because you’re mussing a Battlecry. If that’s your only play, you still do it, but you prefer to play e.g. Righteous Protector on 1 and then Acherus + Hero Power on T3.
  • Level Up! – It might not seem like a great keep, but I like doing it in slower matchups. It’s so easy to stack 3-4 or more Recruits on the board, and then Level Up is a massive swing in your favor. Don’t keep it in faster matchups, because it tends to be too slow. It’s great if you can play it, but your opponent will most likely trade blows with you all the time, clearing your Recruits every turn.

General Playstyle and Strategy

Vs Aggro

When you face fast decks, the most important thing you need to do all the time is keeping the board control. Your deck relies heavily on being ahead on the board. If you aren’t – cards like Acherus VeteranUnidentified MaulRaid LeaderFungalmancer etc. are all much better if you’re ahead.

That’s why the #1 rule against Aggro is trading. I can’t stress enough how important it is to NOT hit your opponent’s Hero while you can do some on-board trading. When you’re the one doing trades, you can dictate how they go. With so many 1/1’s on your side, you can easily make the best trades possible as long as you’re ahead.

Then, in order to stay ahead, you want to play for the tempo. Once you get ahead, you can start dropping some slower cards (like e.g. Stonehill Defender), but during the early turns, you want to go all-in on the tempo. A good example would be – it’s Turn 2 and you play in the mirror matchup. Do you press Hero Power of play Fire Fly + the token? It might seem that Hero Power is a better idea, after all, you’re only gaining +1 health on both minions and losing a card you can use later. But it would most likely be wrong – your opponent is very likely to play either Hero Power or drop some 1/1’s like Protector or Argent Squire. In that context, +1 health on your minions matters A LOT – you can get trades without your minions being killed, which means that you get ahead on the board. If you get ahead enough, you will get back your value – you will be able to buff your stuff efficiently while your opponent will struggle to get onto the board.

That’s why in Aggro matchups, don’t Hero Power that much – try to play faster and drop the actual minions instead. Hero Power only once you get ahead or when it’s the best (or your only) play anyway.

Another thing is that against Aggro there is a much higher chance that you can go all-in on the board, as they rarely run board clears. If you face a deck that MIGHT run a board clear – e.g. Face Hunter with Unleash the Hounds – then you might consider playing around it to a certain extent (e.g. Stonehill Defender plays around it quite nicely, as it stops four 1/1’s). Meta knowledge plays an important role here – you need to know common builds of your opponent’s deck and whether they play AoEs or not. If not – go all in.

Most of the Aggro matchups are decided by a single big swing turn. Let’s say that you both have some kind of board – 4x 1/1 to make it simple. Now, if one of you drops a Stormwind Champion or Level Up! and clears the other player’s 1/1’s while still having his own, the other player will have almost no way to come back into that game. That’s another reason why staying ahead is important – if you’re on play, because you’ve been playing proactively for the entire game, making the good tempo plays, then a swing like that should be game over.

Generally, weapons are one of the best ways to gain the tempo advantage over your opponent, but not necessarily in this case. Unidentified Maul is best when you’re already ahead (only summoning 2x 1/1 is still good when you’re behind), and Vinecleaver, while great, might come too late. The best tempo swing in faster matchup is provided by the Corridor Creeper. Given that your opponent tends to have lots of small minions on the board, the fact that it only has 2 Attack doesn’t matter that much, and getting it out for 0 (or close to 0) mana is big. That’s why keep Corridor Creeper in your mulligan, even two if you can.

One more thing is that when playing vs Aggro, you shouldn’t worry about killing them as quickly as possible. Once you get the board control, you will win the game anyway. It’s often better to stay safe and kill everything they play, while slowly chipping them away. If you’re REALLY ahead, Aggro decks have no way to comeback anyway – ignoring their board might give them a way out (like Odd Paladin might get a random Sunkeeper Tarim out of the Stonehill Defender) and you don’t want to do that.

Vs Control

Even though Odd Paladin might seem like a very aggressive, it’s actually not THAT fast – you tend to Hero Power often, and even though 2x 1/1 for 2 mana is good for a Hero Power, it’s still a low tempo play (compared to Lost in the Jungle it costs +1 mana every time you do it). That’s why you can often afford to go for a longer game. Unlike the games vs Aggro decks, you don’t need to drop everything and play for the tempo. In this case, a slower deck can really punish you if you overcommit onto the board.

When playing vs slow decks, your Hero Power is very important. Try to take advantage of the fact that you can flood the board time and time again without using any cards. Most of the slow decks have a limited number of AoE board clears, so forcing them to waste it on just a few 1/1’s is a great way to win the game. On the other hand, if they don’t do it, you can easily punish them with e.g. Level Up!Raid Leader and such for lots of burst damage.

Another difference between fast and slow matchups is that in the slow matchups, you’re the beatdown deck – you want to kill your opponent before it’s too late. Which means that in this case, face damage is much more important. Against Aggro, you want to clear everything – against Control, you want to clear only the highest priority targets (OR make trades in order to protect an important minion on your side). Let’s say that you have an average board with Corridor Creeper and some small guys – nothing worth protecting. Your opponent drops some 5/5 minion. Yes, you could trade your entire board into it… or you could just ignore it and go face. In the first example, you’d probably need to sacrifice most of your minions. In the second example – your opponent needs to trade off your minions one by one, meaning that you get lots of free damage in the meantime. The only exception is that when you think that he might be setting up a board clear (that’s not mirrored) – e.g. if you play against a Mage who might Flamestrike your board, because you’re approaching Turn 7, then it might be worth to do some trades in order to not fall behind completely.

Talking about the board clears, meta knowledge is very important when playing a deck like that. Your whole game plan revolves around your board, so you absolutely need to know what kinds of board clears your opponent might or might not have, what do you need to play around. For example, against slow Warlock builds you absolutely need to play around Defile and Hellfire, but you also need to keep in mind that some of the builds might have Lord Godfrey and Twisting Nether. Cube or Control Warlock are kind of the worst case scenario, but let’s say that you face an Even Shaman. The only board clears they might have are Hagatha the Witch and Kalimos, Primal Lord. You know that they will be able to deal 3 AoE damage at one point, so you can plan ahead around it. While it will obviously clear all of your small guys, you can, for example, try to keep your higher health minions like Corridor Creeper and Stormwind Champion out of the range, as well as utilize Fungalmancer buff to get other stuff out of range – e.g. you could buff that Fire Fly to 4 health so he would survive the 3 damage AoE, instead of buffing your Recruit to 3 health, which would be in the range.

This build runs only a single copy of Divine Favor. The reason is that it doesn’t run out of steam as quickly as some of the Kobolds & Catacombs Paladin builds (it’s actually leaning towards Midrange more than Aggro), and that the card is not great in faster matchups. Vs Control, however, you can really and I mean really take advantage of it. You don’t have to play it as soon as you get an opportunity – developing board is often more important than drawing cards. The best timing to play Divine Favor is when you’re running out of cards and you don’t have many plays, when you’re looking for something specific (e.g. if you draw Ironbeak Owl, you get through the Taunt and win the game) or when you don’t want to develop the board. The last part is quite common. E.g. if you already have a pretty big board and you’re almost sure that your opponent is holding an AoE to clear it, instead of playing even more into it, you can just Divine Favor (of course, first you might drop your small minions that you’d prefer to cycle anyway). Another good turn to use Divine Favor is Doomsayer turn from your opponent – if you can’t deal with it, you can potentially drop some small minions you don’t need or just draw cards right away – you’re losing tempo anyway so you can as well use your dead turn to draw a few cards.

And finally, Stonehill Defender is an important card in slow matchups. The best thing about it is that you CAN discover Even cards – which means that Stonehill is a way for you to get Sunkeeper Tarim or at least Tirion Fordring. The chance to get one is actually quite high, since the number of Taunts went down after the rotation.

Card Replacements

Odd Paladin is a relatively inexpensive deck. However, I’ll still go through a whole list of Epics & Legendaries, trying to list potential replacements.

  • Level Up! – While the card is not necessary, it’s one of the best ways to capitalize on your upgraded Hero Power. Your 5 mana slot will be empty once you get rid of it, so you want to run another 5 mana card instead. I’d probably run Cobalt Scalebane, or maybe even a Frostwolf Warlord if you want to make the deck look completely like a Classic F2P list.
  • Corridor Creeper – Another very important card. I know that lots of you have disenchanted it when it was nerfed, but I’d say that it’s a key card in this deck. If you absolutely don’t want to craft it again, I’d say that you can try some other high tempo cards – maybe more 1-drops (e.g. Dire Mole or Glacial Shard, maybe a Marsh Drake, maybe a weapon like Light's Justice – it’s going to help you against Aggro decks.
  • Baku the Mooneater – Yep, there are generic Aggro Paladins that don’t play with only Odd or Even cards, but this is not one of them. This whole list is built around Baku, so you need it or build a completely different deck.

I built an odd pally n he is very tough, like 6 games in a row tough! many more nuance and card sub options with out killing your deck cuz u cant afford to craft an 800 or 1600 point card. N guess what, i even carry 1 CTA card in it as a giant middle finger, and it has save my butt more than once!

    I am so close to hitting legend with this deck. Currently at 1.2 but as high as 1.4. For those that are struggling this may not be the deck for you. But it’s actually really good. Sitting at a 69.5 percent winrate in 25 games.

    It´s a good deck, but not a top deck. At least I came to rank 17 with it. But higher than rank 17 is difficult with this deck.

      I found I was having difficulties as well, but only against the insane amount of Cubelock at that rank. Is there anything you’re having problems with in particular? I made a few tweaks to this deck and climbed from 18 to rank 6 in a couple days.

        Call to arms thats so wonderfull in this deck if you run 2 moles, 2 rightous protector e 2 argent and 1 firefly. they are good minions to be summoned by call to arms and 80% of the games you gain strenght on the field. i also run azalina soulthief and cauldron. azalina changes many games, specially when you lose attack power by clear board cards.

    I can’t seem to do well with this deck. It gets thrashed by taunt warrior and quest priest, and that’s all I’ve been seeing for the past 6+ games. Whatever decks odd paladin does well against, I’m not facing them.

    Definitely a top tier deck! Have been playing this deck from rank 10 to 4. Winrate 60-70%. It’s good against all deck. Just play around wisely with your cards.

    For sure not a top deck !!! Losses by any priest, warlock, hunter, druid, warrior and control mage. What is left ? A decent win ratio against rogue and shaman. Ah…it is vey good deck for mirror games?

      Well it’s the top win rate deck in hsreplay. Every deck has its hard counter and control decks are made to counter aggro. But if you lose to any control class( hunter is also in there xD) then you need to get better at hearthstone.

    Playing stancifka version in legend, incredible winrate like 60%+
    Deck is very cheap too, considering all the legends you need to play druid or shaman atm.

    + 1x blessing of might
    + 2x adaptation

    Is this deck worth making, I only need to spend 1000 dust but im not sure whether to make it or not, people are saying its good but I’ve never really played an aggro deck well. Any thoughts?

      Yeah, I can definitely recommend this deck. so far i have a winrate of 75% (). though I wouldn’t play THIS version of the deck. I’ve tried adding some interesting cards, and the following seem to work pretty well:

      2x Bittertide Hydra, to create huge pressure in early turnes (kinda good: turn 4: coin + Bittertide), as the opponent often hasn’t many options against this minion. (if you’re sure that your opponent doesn’t run any big taunts or something you can definitely think of silencing the bittertide Hydra, so you don’t lose health anymore)

      1x Witch’s Cauldron, i know it seems weird but due to the fact that this deck can’t run any boardclears (shaman spells come in quite handy) it is definitely worth a try.

      1x Mind Control Tech, when the opponent starts building aggro, you can just deny it and gain the upper hand quite easy (with a little bit of RNG)

      To sum up..: yeah this deck (without my changes) is still worth it, I would adjust it slightly but if you don’t want to believe.. you’ll be fine with the “premade” deck shown above!

          Removed:

          -2x acherus veterans because i personally don’t like the card, since you can’t play is as your very first minion (or you can but you’ll lose the benefit of its battlecry)

          -1x Vinecleaver because this weapons is really slow and i never really got to play the second one all that efficiently

          -1x Stormwind Champion

      It can, but it’s not good. On average, you will pull out something like a 1/2, 1/1 with Divine Shield and a 2/1. It’s not worth it for 5 mana if you only run 1-drops.

    Just picked this up after getting rank 5 finally… This deck especially after the nerfs is in a really powerful place, currently on a 10-1 winstreak (4 wins on my account and 6 on my friends) with the only loss being to the mirror.

    One alteration I did make and would suggest:
    -2 Corridor Creeper
    +1 Leeroy Jenkins
    +1 Gluttonous Ooze

    Both of these are great in the mirror for pushing through the last bits of damage and disrupting their weapons, and also are really helpful vs control too 🙂

      That’s a good alternative.

      Mine was getting rid of one “fungalmancer” and adding “Harrison Jones”.
      Corridor Creeper is actually a good option for me, as you usually play it at turn 6 for no mana, and lets you prepare the board for Stormwind Champion

    This data is of my personal experience and in-game situations.And all of it is Legit 😛

    I made this deck yesterday from now. I was not willing to try this deck on my ranked matches. Because i was at rank 24. Then i tried it on casual unraked play. This deck is amazing. Yes, you will feel it. Once i killed Rouge before she could even activate its quest on turn 7. That seems crazy but yes it happened. Then i got against a Mirror he was first to start still with RNG and Brain, i got him rigth at 11th turn. as i managed to cast 2 upgrades and silencing his taunt.
    Now,
    In Ranked matches, I played 11 matches that includes 4 golden heroes (with 500 wins). I won 10!! and lost 1 to a even paladin as he managed to get a nice tempo. And i will still play this deck to really see where i could reach. currently at Rank 16(Questing Adventurer) major wins goes to this deck!!

    Try it you wont regret!!

    win 5 games in a row, lost 5 games in a row….everytime…cant pass rank 18 right now….im not totally noob, my ranks before was between 15-10….some help please ? Murloc paly, cubelock, hunters….all is problem…im doin something wrong, but i dont know what

      Just try and establish a board presence as best as you can and as efficiently as you can with your mana, dont be afraid to hold of using level up! sometimes its better to trade your recruits and replay 2 with the hero power and build up again then waste it on clearing minions 🙂

    This is an Unbelievable deck. I wasn’t sure to try it out or not at Rank 10 but I’ve been playing it for 2 hours straight. I have went from rank 10(0 stars ) To rank 6 (2Star) with easy. I only lost to Ele mage and another Odd pally. Is very easy to pilot, just make smart trades into other creatures and keep going wide you will be sure to beat most people with the overwhelming power the deck pushes out.

    I took this deck to legend yet again. I’m reading comments here and just at a loss for words. I hit legend 9 days into the season and I do not play a ton of games per day. My personal winrate against even Paladin was at least 90%, only losing maybe 2 games out of 20+ matchups. Get better at hearthstone and then try this deck out. East legend rank.

    To those wondering. It’s a pretty good deck but if you read the comments below, you need to practice a lot and get familiar with your opponents decks. You can get to rank 10-15 at least. Its probably the best cheapest deck and I don’t regret getting Baku. Even Pally is only slightly better

    Impossible to win a game, went 0-7 in the last hour, so countered, and in tavern I got 10-2 twice with this same deck, now im rank 10 and is impossible to win a single game

      I’ve been running Odd Paladin since the start of WW and just hit rank 5 tonight. Last season I also got stuck around rank 10 and gave up on the deck for a while. I revisited it this season, made a few adjustments, and have been very successful so far. Going from rank 10 to rank 5 took a total of 54 games, where I went 32-22 (about 59% win rate).

      I’ve been using the list above with the following adjustments: (1) I run a second Ironbeak Owl in place of the Blessing of Might, (2) I use Frostwolf Warlords in place of the Corridor Creepers, and (3) I replaced the Archerus Veterans with Abusive Sergeants. Having a second Owl gives you more tools in the mid to late game, especially if you can hold one until you need to clear a big taunt to make a game winning push. I run Frostwolf Warlords because I don’t have Corridor Creepers and don’t want to craft them. The Warlords usually hit the board at 7/7 or better, forcing the opponent to deal with them quickly. They draw silences and single target removal immediately, which is fine by me. It often buys me another turn or two to establish the rest of my board.

      The real game-changer for me was switching to Abusive Sergeants. They give you a quick answer to the many 3-health early game minions opponents throw down (Dire Moles, Northshire Clerics, Mana Wyrms, Plated Beatles, Rockpool Hunters, etc.). In so many games my Sergeants were key in helping clear my opponent’s board and establish my own. Give ’em a shot and see if that helps you at all.

        I gave this a shot and hit 80% Winrate in 15 games. The second Ironbeak Owl fits perfectly to push for lethal damage, and as you mentioned, Abusive Sergeant immensely helps for favorable early trades. Haven’t had the opportunity to play Frostwolf Warlord yet, but I’m running only one since I like the Marsh Drake an awful lot.

      I just hit legend with this deck again for the second season. This time I hit it 8 days into the season and entered legend at rank 758. People who aren’t successful with this deck simply do not understand opponents options and need to play more. I had at LEAST a 90% winrate against even Paladin and didn’t play a single mirror from 4 to legend. I don’t understand how people call a deck trash that I’m taking straight to legend back to back.

      notice any consistent weaknesses? can’t deliver final blow, cant keep minions alive on your side of the board, not enough defense, not enough offense?

        Well,taunt druid destroys me,but i expected that.The problem is that i usually lose the board in the first turns(bad mulligan,mana wyrm agains mages,northshire against priest and board clears).Also,the only way i can actually win is by using level up on a full board,and most of the times i don’t have neither the card or the board.

          Boisterous bard is a nice addition to this deck to help your dudes stick to the board. For early threat mukla or marsh drake is a nice replacement for creepers.

            In this meta of extreme taunts and board clears zoo shouldn’t work in theory. But in practice every opponent do a dear misplay in mulligan when he sees a warlock. And against zoo it costs him his life. 🙂

    I just hit legend with this deck about 4 hours ago. For those who say this deck isn’t good in the current meta or that this deck is a “mistake to craft” are genuinely bad at Hearthstone. I had a 95% winrate against even Paladin and only lost consistently to Mindblast priest. This deck is not a mindless deck. It takes a lot of thinking and understanding your opponents deck to play properly. Even Paladin was one of my easiest matchups. For those of you struggling with this deck please don’t be offended by this, just get better and try to use your brain a little more. If I hit legend with this, it’s a very good deck. I’m not consistently hitting legend every season.

      True, this deck more like midrange with agro potential than a full agro deck. The only way to win is understanding their opponent and work upon it. Though I like Marsh dragon for early presure + trade potential.

    Hi everyone,
    Im a casual player that plays the game occasionally therefore i do not own many card nor dust. I have decided to craft this deck regardless after getting shudderwock as a my free legendary which is useless atm. I got from being stuck in rank 20 to rank 15 in space of 2 days (about 20 games). i was on a winstreak till rank 17 and thats where the pain begun as all the cube warlocks begun appearing. As long as you are playing against zoo you can win even against Despicable Dreadlorld as long as you do not over commit to the board you cannot win against a cubelock that has voidlord on the board as he will simply cube and it will be the end. This deck seems to perform reasonably well in my experiance against other decks including Even Paladin, Spiteful Druid and Priest, Odd hunter, Spell Hunter. I havent played against any other archetypes during my climb except quest rogue however i rather not to put it into a list as i played against it only once and lost.

    In conclusion: If you are a budget/casual player i recommend you this deck as its fairly cheap and you will be able to climb if you put effort in. Is it a competitive deck? No. I believe that this deck will perform somewhat well until rank 5 where it will get outclassed by all the cubelocks. Now im going to attempt reaching rank 10 and hopefully 5 later on and hopefully keep you updated.

    this deck is pretty much rubbish against god tier cubelock, and for some reason prince liam is in the top version on hsreplay, do not craft him. I regret crafting this deck.

      It’s a cheap deck, and it has quite fast games, so it’s a good ladder deck.

      That being said it’s not a god tier deck lile Even Paladin, which is the best deck right now.

      Worthless for tournaments, yet still good on ladder (kind of like Zoo).

    Playing this deck instead of even paladin, is just a mistake. If you are a F2P and are tight on budget, this deck is slightly cheaper and it gets the job done, but besides that, the better paladin cards, and the paladin cards that synergise well with this type of deck are even cost cards like sunkeeper tarim , truesilver, equality, consacrate, lightfused stegodon, CALL TO ARMS, knife juggler, blessing of kings and so on… Besides divine favour and level up, the rest of the cards in this deck seem kinda lackluster and i think this deck might strugle to close out games because, unlike even pally, it doesnt have good catch-up mechanics and mid-late game “nullifiers”, to get that extra damage in. Overall, the card quality seems quite worse.

      Honestly, i won mostly every single game with this deck vs even paladin + i climbed the ladder from rank 17 to rank 3 in 4 days with it.

      Even Paladin pales in comprison to this if you understand hearthstone completely. No offense but even Paladin is weaker but easiest to play mindlessly. You can get better by continuing to play.

        Actually, if you check both decks winrates you will see that even paladin has slightly better winrates against most matchups. If you check sites like metastats.net, sites that acumulate data like that, you will see that the best even paladin decklist currently sits at 63.98% but the best odd paladin is at 56.59%, beeing toped by other 3 different even pally decks with better winrate. So when you say even paladin “pales in cmprison to this if you understand hearthstone”, you are dead wrong, in fact, 7.39% wrong. The statistics speak for themselves.

        Like i said, the best paladin cards are even, and call to arms is the best paladins card in the game in standard.

          You can talk about statistics all you’d like. I hit legend with this deck two seasons now and have at least a 90% WR verse even pally. Just because a large chunk of people don’t play it properly doesn’t mean it’s not as good.

      Unfortunately, you can’t run Sword of Justice because it’s 8 mana and this deck can only use odd cost cards. However, it might not be that great anyway because Even Paladin decks are cutting it in favor of other cards.

          If you have Baku, then it’s an amazing deck that’s easy to learn, can hang with more deck lists than most, and doesn’t really have anything that’s likely to get nerfed (level up is the only possible candidate unless they hit Baku which would surprise me). I climbed from 10 to 7 with pretty much this list and right now from 7 to 3 even faster with my varient since it’s a little off meta and people dont play around the crinkles. If I were you (assuming you’ve already got Baku), get those level ups, sub in a couple devilsaur eggs for the creepers, and a witch’s cauldron if you have one.

      I am F2P and have had a lot of success. Plus its not a crazy investment using a lot of commons and basics. This also means its great for experimentation: try your own team of one drops, play a witches cauldron or try using sword of justice. Level up is definitely core and Corridor is not, in the list above there are around four or five cards that you could switch around but this one is optimized against control decks, at lower ranks you may find more success cutting an owl or favor for a bard or cauldron or a dire mole for the fire fly. If you opened baku then I think this is one of the best decks to build for free to play players and unless the power level of cards goes up significantly in future sets baku seems like a card that is only getting better. (especially when anti-synergie power cards like death knights and keleseth rotate out of standard)

      The deck is easy and it can get you to legend although you may have to get lucky when it comes to matchups

      All warlocks archetypes, control priest, big spell mage and warrior(not the aggro variant – or odd quest, because it is lacking whirlwind removals).

      And you could name a few others.

    Have you considered adding Skelemancer to the deck? Seems like the perfect fit and I’ve had good success with it as it punishes the opponent for clearing the board making tough decisions for your opponent. Let me know your thoughts

    Why exactly is this deck in the “top standard meta decks” column? I have every single card except the two crawlers and I have yet to win a single game with it. So you can pump out a ton of cheap cards. Big deal. The opponent takes a couple points damage, drops a board clear, then drops a large creature(s) that are impossible to overcome. This deck should not be RANKED, let alone in the “top.”

    I’m trying to understand the point of having 2x Vinecleaver’s in this deck. This weapon is extremely slow, and the thought of having to use a second one would happen only by turn 10 or 11 at the earliest. Isn’t there another card that can be used instead which would have more use? Don’t get me wrong, I have 2 of them in my collection, I just don’t understand why you would need 2 in this deck…

      Having both in your hand isn’t the best, but making sure you draw one consistently is important. It’s incredibly powerful in this deck. I’ve used both before when I had it on, dropped unidentified maul for the buff, then out the cleaver back on. If you don’t like it, run Leeroy in that slot. Him + Blessing of Might is a nasty reach finisher.

    This deck is the reason I play Wild. Over there I don’t get my ass handed to me on turn 5 by Level Up! or Quartermaster because you lack the minions to use it on. Now a prayer for Mysterious Challenger in all his greatness.

      Well I just got my ass beat by Odd Paladin several times in Wild now. They have Muster for battle and many other buff Silver Hand Recruit cards that totally overwhelm you. My Wild Secret Tempo Mage appears to be obsolete after the release of Baku…

    I had some luck putting in Prince Liam in a version of this deck (The account got him as free legendary), and I didn’t feel like crafting nerfed Corridor Creepers on the account. Replacing the 1 drops with legendaries on turn 5 helps against the usual taunt heavy counters of the deck. I don’t think I would suggest crafting him to put him in the deck though. The effect isn’t consistent enough for suggesting that.

    How many recruits should you have on board before you play “Level Up!”? It seems like 2 is not enough, 3 is mediocre, and 4 is great?

    What would you replace in the deck for an extra owl? Acherus vetern?

      War leader is pretty safe to replace. Also it’s more like 4 is good and 6 is great. Not that hard to do, since you have Level up! + hero power on turn seven, or most of the time Vinecleaver + hero power + Level up! in the late game.

    This deck is very effective. Got me through many ranks straight. I though it would have a hard time versus odd quest warrior for all the taunts and “tank up”, but it actually dominated that slow deck. Couldn’t get past taunt druid, however. I’m playing with 2x Ironbeak owl, but it was not enough. Any suggestions/tips on how to overcome the witchwood grizzly + witching hour combo? or is that a perfect counter for this deck?

      Yes, it seems like this Druid is a great counter to this deck. You need to play fast (try to play minions over Hero Powering, you don’t aim at a long game, because in the long game you lose), and hope that they don’t draw the right cards. You can’t really do much more.
