This is the Wild version of Grim Patron Warrior, go here for the Standard version: Midrange Patron Warrior (Standard) Decklist Guide!

It was originally thought that Grim Patron Warrior was dead in the water once Warsong Commander was nerfed. This turned out not to be the case because a non-combo version of the deck rose from the ashes. The deck is much more fair now, and can’t just blow out the opponent from an empty board.

You can no longer OTK your opponent, but with Inner Rage, Unstable Ghoul, Death's Bite, Cruel Taskmaster, and Whirlwind you can still produce large boards that are very difficult for your opponent to deal with. This package combined with Grommash Hellscream makes the deck one of the best in the game. We witnessed this first hand when Ostkaka won the 2015 BlizzCon World Championship with it as one of his lists.

Midrange Patron Warrior Deck List Update – April 2016 (Season 25)

It seems like Patron has drifted back to the Crane333 version of the deck which includes Sir Finley Mrrgglton.

Midrange Patron Warrior Mulligan Guide and Strategy

Acolyte of Pain, Sir Finley Mrrgglton, Fiery War Axe, and Death's Bite are your generally kept cards. Armorsmith is a good keep against aggro decks. If you don’t have Armorsmith, but you do have Sir Finley Mrrgglton then you might consider pitching it back. Having armor against aggro is usually pretty beneficial. Speaking of Finley, you’ll want to select either the Warlock Hero Power for the draw, or the Mage Hero Power to damage your own Grim Patron.

Midrange Patron Warrior Tech Cards

Big Game Hunter is an option if you are running into a lot of decks like Handlock. Loatheb has also been seen in Patron Warrior decks, especially if you’re playing a lot of spell based decks. Piloted Shredder was the card before Kor'kron Elite was introduced, some might feel like that is a stronger choice.

Midrange Patron Warrior Card Substitutions (Replacements)

Keep in mind that replacements for cards are rarely ever going to be perfect. It’s usually easiest to try and come close to what the card accomplishes in the deck, or double up an already existing card in the deck.

  • Dr. Boom: While Dr. Boom should be number one on your crafting list, you might not have him just yet. You can try another impactful board minion like Sylvanas Windrunner or Ragnaros the Firelord. Cheaper options could be as simple as a Sludge Belcher.
  • Grommash Hellscream: If you play to play a lot of Warrior then you should really try to get this card. That being said, you could try the cards listed for Dr. Boom or try Kel'Thuzad (this is a bit of a stretch) as mentioned in the comments below.

Midrange Patron Warrior Combos and Synergies

This deck used to be a full on combo deck, but now that Warsong Commander has been nerfed it requires a bit more work to win games. Death's Bite is great all-around in this deck, it takes out priority targets on your opponent’s board and helps create Patrons. A common finishing setup is to attack with Death’s Bite, then the following turn drop Grommash Hellscream and use the last durability on your Death’s Bite. This is a 14 damage combination on an empty board.

The most obvious combinations are with Whirlwind and your various minions that are effected by damage. You can also very easily generate a ton of card draw by pairing your Grim Patron with Inner Rage, Whirlwind, and then using Battle Rage. You can also generate a huge minion by using Whirlwind to damage both sides of the board with a Frothing Berserker.

Very useful deck, I don’t have Grommash, Dr. Boom, Unstable ghoul and Sir Finley (Replaced them by: Shield slam (1), Cleave (1), Ravaging ghoul (2) and Alley armorsmith (1) , but still got me from rank 21 to rank 16!!! One of the best decks I’ve played, and a good one to fight against people that since turn 1 are summoning legendary minions…… Thanks a lot.

I assume you want to replace something with Loatheb. If that’s the case you can swap it out for Sludge Belcher.

If you don’t have Loatheb, you’re not going to have Sludge Belcher, at least while Naxx is still around.

It sucks in my opinion right now , this kor’kron elite … i found them so useless , very bad results for me in rank 13 , been using another version so well but cant find it anymore 🙁

No offence dude, but if your play at rank 13 you probs aren’t getting full use of the deck. Odds are your playing it incorrectly. I am using it for my climb to legend right now and is very strong. Not 100% on the Murlco but apart from that really solid.

Seems pretty weak – gets anhialated on ladder by paladin decks, and any aggro deck. Control warrior is much stronger for this class.

you’re doing it wrong. You should be favored vs secret pally.

What’s the strategy vs freeze Mage with this deck? I feel like I stand zero chance

Freeze mage should be an easy match up if you draw less than Jaina.
You just go for fatigue, hit with gromm, play Boom, get value of loatheb and try to get a good death’s bite + armorsmith turn. Also, always keep an answer to Anto.

huge ass armor up turn with 2 armorsmiths and multiple whirlwinds. keep an execute for antonidas.
you should be golden. check out thijs’ game against ostkaka in the blizzcon semi finals.

Armor smith. You can easily get 10+ armor per smith. Try to armor up as much as possible but try to develop a decent board that can push damage without over extending. Save execute and inner rage for alextraza and antonidas. I run revenge instead of korkron so execute triger is rarely an issue.

      Warlock or Mage.

        I disagree.

        In general

        Mage
Priest – heal up patron is great
        Lock
        druid
        pally
        shaman
        rogue

        Vs. agro don’t pick lock
Vs. control (especially priest) pick lock over mage you need to go super agressive and draw your whole deck be4 they draw half to win.

Is it possible to include wild pyromancer in this deck ? You will end up with 4 patrons with just one inner rage …

    • shiang
      March 10, 2016 at 9:07 PM

I’d recommend revenge if you want more ww effects. Problem with cards like pyro and task master is they clutter up the board and with patrons you want to maximize space.

Your first set of patrons you really want to triger at turn 5 with inner rage + deathbite. After that revenge and ww to resupply patrons.

Woah romance language!! But no emperor was only good when this comboed. Emperor is too slow for this deck, try a second ghoul

can we replace berserker by anything else?

i recently tried seige engine instead of grommash because I don’t have him, and I’ve been having decent results. I find that in the case of midrange, the 5 health and ability to grow becomes really useful; it becomes a threat to druid of the claw on turn 6 or dr.7 on turn 7 if left alive and armoring up each turn, which isn’t unthinkable with patrons. IMO, i’ve never been a fan of grommash in patron because it feels clunky to me.

Although, I’m sure that the extra burst from grommash might be mandatory.

I don’t have Grommash, but I replaced him with Kel’Thuzad. Won me games that would’ve been won as easily with Grommash. A board of patrons by turn 8 against midrange/control is when they drop their big minions. Dropping Kel’Thuzad then trading in patrons seals the board and win most of the time. Against aggro, this helps stabilize even further if the game reaches that point. I haven’t felt the need of a Grommash finisher most of the time.
