Midrange Hunter is another deck that has seemingly been around since the beginning of Hearthstone. Hunter has continually been able to survive various nerfs and card changes while maintaining a strong place in the meta. The key to Midrange Hunter is curving out strongly until you hit turn 6 which ends with the brutally efficient Savannah Highmane. One of the most devastating two turns in Hearthstone is turn 5 coin, Savannah Highmane, into a turn 6 Highmane. You could additionally follow that up with the best 7 drop in the game: Dr. Boom.
Midrange Hunter is a tough deck to play against primarily because it punishes you for playing singly strong minions with Freezing Trap, and can also make you pay when you flood the board because of Unleash the Hounds. The one area it does lack is in card draw, if you’re able to answer threats or keep them off curve they will have a tough time catching up.
Midrange Hunter Deck List Update – March 2016 (Season 24)
Midrange Hunter seems like another casualty at the top of the pyramid. If you still want to play Hunter, however, you can try J4CKIECHAN’s Injured Camel list!
Midrange Hunter Tech Cards
Explosive Trap can be added if you’re facing a lot of aggressive decks. Hunter's Mark is good against heavy Taunts. Snake Trap is great to throw in now and again to keep your opponent guessing.
Midrange Hunter Mulligan Guide and Strategy
Webspinner, Mad Scientist, Knife Juggler, Animal Companion, and Haunted Creeper are your general keeps. You can keep Eaglehorn Bow and Quick Shot against classes that have problematic 3-health minions, e.g., Mage (Mana Wyrm), Shaman (Tunnel Trogg), and Druid (Darnassus Aspirant). Unleash the Hounds can be kept against Paladin to combat Muster for Battle. If you are on the coin and you have a 2-drop you can keep Piloted Shredder.
Midrange Hunter Card Substitutions (Replacements)
Keep in mind that replacements for cards are rarely ever going to be perfect. It’s usually easiest to try and come close to what the card accomplishes in the deck, or double up an already existing card in the deck.
- Dr. Boom: This is particularly important in Midrange Hunter (especially following a Savannah Highmane), but you can try Ragnaros the Firelord as a replacement.
- Quick Shot: Arcane Shot is okay, but you could try Leper Gnome instead and run the deck a bit more aggressively.
Midrange Hunter Combos and Synergies
Knife Juggler and Unleash the Hounds is a classic combination that can devastate your opponent’s board. You can also lead with Haunted Creeper then follow it up with Knife Juggler, trade the Creeper, and get a couple of knives off. Mad Scientist and Eaglehorn Bow is a great combination, just make sure to save one of your durability unless you really need to use it.
Is this deck good anymore in the current meta? ^_^
It’s a decent deck, but it isn’t top 1 or 2 tier.
So it isn’t even as good as Face Hunter?
I’d say Face Hunter is better right now in this meta.
I have played more that 500 games with this deck, and I agree you can’t live without Loatheb or Dr Boom. Are your finishers, it is something like druid without combo. About playing it, the deck is essentialy based in hit a good curve and finishers the game, as said with higmare and boom. Is esentially and aggro deck. You don’t have draw, you don’t have área removals. Yes, it s not a face deck where you go just face, you have to clean with the weapon and sometimes quick shot and some súper favorable trades with minios but esentially the idea is minions to face. If you don’t win turn ten you rarely win the game. I don’t also like flare, you win with this deck if you hit a good curve and a card less is devasting. A personal idea is that to Houndsmaster in your hand can be terrible, so I play just one.Maybe an Other two like Elek or even a Yeti. Sorry for the english, my tablet have a program that things i am writting in spanish and changes the words. It is true is weaker in the current meta. Renolock crush this deck it is not especially good vs secrets and shamman.
Mukla’s champion?
this deck no usea new card??? tgt or loe?
Nope, there’s an argument for adding Ram Wrangler, but it’s not completely necessary.
can l get legend with this in session 22
It’s been kind of weak recently, but it still can get you to legend.
Replacement for mad scientist?
I might just try Flame Juggler to fill out the 2-drops.
Replacement for loatheb
Stranglethorn Tiger is actually pretty decent in that spot.
I dont think you can replace Loatheb… LOATHEB IS SUCH A STRONG CARN IN THIS DECK. YOU CAN GET LOATHEB FROM BUYING( or using tons of coins) in naxxaramus, which is the best expansion by far in hearthstone so i seriosly reconmend buying anyways.
What about a flare to counter all the secret paladins u meet?
Flare isn’t a very good card, so you’ll weaken your other matchups. It doesn’t necessarily guarantee you a win against Secret Paladin either.
well, flare is not a great card, but is a great MC deny and with the abundance of the Secret pallys you kind of need at least a flare.
Is also great vs freeze mage to get rid of an ice block
I took out 1 mad scientist and Loatheb out and replaced them with 2 healbots. I just feel better having some form of healing and they’ve saved my ass a few times.
Any suggestions how to replace Doctor Balance? Don’t have enough dust for him :/
Ragnaros or Sylvanas, something bigger that impacts the board.
Really, you need to make Dr. B. There are very few top tier (or heck, mid-tier) decks without him. Anything you have that you *might* use as a replacement should probably be turned to dust and just craft the Dr. Boom, you will rarely not have him as an auto-include.
This really needs an update for TGT.
There isn’t a lot to update, you can add King’s Elekk but that’s debatable. The only other card is Ram Wrangler, and that’s even less likely to see play. Vorpal has a more TGT based list, but I’m not positive it’s better than the standard Midrange Hunter list: http://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/vorpals-season-18-tgt-midrange-hunter/
The lack of 1 drops sometimes costs me control of the board early. It’s hard to regain it later in the game. Good deck overall though.
– 2 Knife Juggler
+ 2 Explosive trap
Went from Level 12 to 5 in one sitting with the change.
Great deck! Thanks!
I like to put a snake trap in for the second Ironbeak. Having a snake trap out with a Knife Juggler is a quick way to supplement your early game board state and remove the threat most likely attacking your Knife Juggler.
I’ve really liked Explosive Trap for one Owl. It really helps against Face Hunter, Zoo, or Aggro Paladin. Snakes is also a good option though.
