Mulligans
General Mulligans
Wether it's aggro or control, you should always want Fire Fly and/or Mana Wyrm. Ideally with a Spellstone in hand to quickly get those spells. It's important to play an elemental each turn, so make sure you think of that in the mulligan. If you face control, you can go for more expensive and value cards, but you really want to take the board early on either way.
Just a deck I came up with, by far not optimised, the cards are just the idea, please leave comments for improvements or just saying that it sucks, I’m open for feedback.
Play low cost cards like Fire Fly and Mana Wyrm to take the board and keep pressure by the elemental synergy. Generate spells with Lesser Ruby Spellstone/Primordial Glyph and pray to RNGesus for the cards you want. Leyline Manipulator can discount those cards so you can have low cost high power level spells, good thing is, is that Leyline is also an elemental. Aluneth is there in case you run out of steam, draw lots of cards and play Medivh, the Guardian when you’ve drawn enough with Aluneth, so you equip Atiesh. Atiesh plus spells like Firelands Portal and generated spells gives lot of board pressure. Polymorph is there for those pesky Voidlords and Carnivorous Cubes. Frost Lich Jaina is there to survive the late game and heal for tons. Arcane Artificer is there for some additional survival, but not necessary. Pyros is just a great value card.
You can change Pyros, Blazecaller, Medivh, Aluneth and Jaina for budget elemental synergy cards. For example; Shimmering Tempest and Water Elemental. Furthermore, you can add Frostbolt or Flamestrike for more control. I would recommend at least one Arcane Intellect if you don’t have Aluneth.
I haven’t played this form of the deck myself, I don’t have the more expensive cards. I use a version with only Aluneth as legendary. Furthermore I don’t have Blazecaller and Steam Surger, instead I have Flame Geysers, Frostbolt, Flamestrike, Shimmering Tempest and Anomalus (just because I have him, by far not required). It works quite well in the lower ranked.
Anyways, I hope some can transform this in a decent deck and looking forward to feedback (and hopefully, stories about a version of this deck climbing ladder)
Buth the cards of One night in Karazhan would dissapear from standar. So basicly you have to replace medit and fireland portal.
Sadly yes, but was an idea for that time. Probably, midrange elemental mage now would look quite different than this, because of book of specters.
