Hi everyone!
During the month I played this deck and want to share my experience.
Unfortunately, I don’t have stats as I play on the phone.
Shortly about myself:
I play on EU at the ranks 5 – 1 (now on 3-rd).
Thrice took the legend. Last time with control odd mage in December.
About the deck
Shaman
I’ve tried different versions and this one seems most solid.
Revisions:
- Weaponized Pinata is bad;
- 2 copies of Lightning Bolt or Earth Shock is too much;
- Lightning Storm often time is too weak;
- 1 Witch's Brew is enough;
- Tried Lava Burst as a removal (against Hench-Clan Thug for example) – not so great;
- Replaced Baron Geddon with Missile Launcher;
- Gilnean Royal Guard might be an acceptable replacement for Al’Akir the Windlord;
- Haven’t tried but Splitting Festeroot might be ok.
Mulligans:
- Always keep: Hagatha's Scheme, Muckmorpher, Acolyte of Pain, Far Sight.
- Against Rogues consider keeping Lightning Bolt .
- Against Hunters, Mages and Priests keep Hex and/or Earth Shock.
- Against Warriors Ancestral Spirit or Big Bad Voodoo might be good.
Tips:
- The deck is about controlling the board. Ancestral Spirit effectively stops aggressions and gives you value. The best targets to use it: Walking Fountain, Safeguard, Al’Akir the Windlord, Zilliax.
- Don’t be scared to lose some health at the start of the game. You can easily restore it later.
- Try to get Rockbiter Weapon and use it with Al’Akir the Windlord to deal big damage against warriors.
- Magnetize mechs (especially Wargear) with Vault Safe (summoned by Safeguard).
- Use Haunting Visions when you know what you need and when you can effectively use it’s discount.
Not so sure about this version. i think the regular Big Shaman works better, cos this one for example if your muckmorpher hits a wargear, its just a generic 4/4 mech for 5 mana. if it hits a missile launcher, its the same minion (you only saved 1 mana) and safeguard its a weaker version of the same minion for 1 less mana. i do think mechanincal whelp and Replicating Menace sound interesting in this deck tho.
I played a lot of games with this deck, Big Shaman and other control versions.
Feels like this deck works better against aggro, notably more confident against Tempo Rogues and Token Druids.
The deck has more midrange and sticky minions by which you can control the board.
Safeguard plays a significant role in stalling against aggro. In such matchups it’s very good to get it from Muckmorpher. If it survives you can put Ancestral Spirit on it, or you can do it on turn 7 immediately. Often time this will mean victory.
Of course, it’s bad to muckmorpher Wargear. The chance of hitting it is about 10% and you have to put up with this probability. 5/5 buff gives a lot of advantages.
Similar situation with Missile launcher. It finds its place in this deck mostly because of its magnetic effect. But sometimes AOE effect also might be good.
There are not so many good deathrattle or mech cards you want to put in this deck to make synergies work – have to choose from the available options.
