This is a great deck to climb fast from low tiers. Done my 20 to 5 in just one day. I lost six times during the whole process, four times to a paladin, twice to a hunter.
I played this decklist to legend this season with -1 Arcane Intellect +1 Pyroblast as only change. It is interesting because all 30 cards in the deck are mage class cards with 0 neutral cards.
This deck is decent vs popular warlock decks and priest decks. This deck is very good vs rogue decks, I’ve actually had couple rogue players who instantly conceded to me at legend level when we got rematched after I beat them the first time. Supposedly bad matchup for this deck is paladin, hunter, and zoolock. I’ve done decent vs hunter though unless they turn 4 barnes + yashaarj on me. Both murloc and dude paladin are tough but winnable if you curve out well.
Pyro beats warlocks & priests, 2 Firelands is always too clucky. This player might have highrolled insanely well & thinks 2 Firelands in good.
This deck is disgusting, shame on everyone who plays it. It ruins the game and the community.
How is it ‘worse’ than Cubelock, flooding your board with 6 Voidlords? Or Dude Pally’s sudden 6 3/3 taunts with windfury on R5? Or a never-fatiguing, forever rotating the same card Kingsbane with Lifesteal Rogue?
Everything is relative, sir, and I assume you’re not a Mage player, hence find this particular cardlist professionally and personally offensive.

Mill rogue and cubelock are fun both to play and to play against. Dude paladin is retarded too, just like all the others aggro decks, but it can be countered with the usual anti aggro tools: taunt and aoes (aggro decks in general aren’t satisfying to play and they don’t reward skill; aggro mirrors i.e. just suck while control mirrors reward both skill and strategy).
You’re wrong btw, I’m a control mage player (both n’zoth and big spell). Sometimes i play quest mage too.
Secret mage is cancer because it’s an aggro deck that can’t be easily countered with the usual anti-aggro tools, due to counterspell and burn spells. For this particular reason it just ruins the meta. Murloc and dude paladin are retarded too, of course, but for what I said in the first paragraph they don’t ruin the meta.
Cubelock mechanic is pretty overpowered. You’re just mad because you play control mage and your big spells get countered all the time by Counterspell. There are bad matchups for every deck, so it’s better to just try to deal with it rather than calling certain deck types cancer. Especially since Secret Mage isn’t even a tier 1 deck unlike the Quest Rogue, Pirate Warrior, Aggro Shaman in the past.
I don’t play n’zoth/big spell mage “only”. I play control mage alongside other control and combo decks (fatigue warrior, cubelock, etc). If secret mage had never existed, the meta, especially after the nerf, would have been so much better… And that’s a fact, not a subjective idiosyncrasy.
Had to remove the ice block as it was in every mulligan and was drawn within the first 3 cards every .single. game.
Swapped it out for pyro.
Miracle Rouge? The deck is hard unfavored against tempo mage, if you dosen’t curve like a God.
Lol 0 neutral cards. I have a hunch the new expansion is gonna have strong neutral cards though
Soon enough, much of this deck I’ll rotate out of standard:
Kabal Lackey
Medivh’s Valet
Ice Block
Potion of Polymorph
Kabal Crystal Runner
Firelands Portal
Can’t say I’ll miss playing against it.
Will rotate*
I play the very same list. It’s good but its effectivity is really dependent on the number of paladins you meet. This deck loses to aggro paladin in like 90% of games. If you don’t meet many paladins then I’d say this deck is tier 0.
Not only paladin, hunter eats this alive, the many miracle rogues eat this as well, and it is very luck dependant, had 14 straight losses today with this.
Exactly. It’s a great and fun deck, but the ladder is like 50% aggro pally and 20% spell hunter. Both just rofl at secret mage. You will need a lot of patiance grinding with this one.
But in other hand, is somewhat easy to win against Cubelock with this.
It at least stands a chance against Hunter, if it counters the Amulet.
Agreed on Paladin pretty much walking over it, though.
