Mulligans
MAGE
As TLK start with The True Lich your only option here is : Counterspell.
The most frustrating part of any Mage deck for this adventure is to not get the mulligan in hand and restart…
Choosen cards :
- Shieldbearer Lich King will never attack him with his weapon.
- Kel'Thuzad Will revive your Shieldbearer if needed.
- Blizzard or Flamestrike to weaken Trapped Soul.
- Scaled Nightmare to end with him.
STRATEGY
The challenge is to survive until only LK have only one Trapped Soul left. You have to trade other taunts before that, in order to avoid to kill the last soul by mistake.
The risk is to have a full hand without the good cards. This deck can clearly be improved but I managed to beat LK 3 times in a row (counting only trials with good mulligan). Feel free to suggest improvements.
Early and Mid game (turns 1-4): You have to counterspell The True Lich in turn 1. Then, the main priority is to keep TLK’s board under control. Illuminator, taunts and spells will help you until turn 7.
Turn 7-8: You must clear 5 of 6 Trapped Soul. Blizzard can help surviving and weaken trapped souls.
Late-game: Once Lich King have only one Trapped Soul left, you play Kel'Thuzad and Shieldbearer. Next turn, you play Scaled Nightmare. You juste have to wait for it to be strong enough to beat Lich King in one hit. LK will not attack Shieldbearer with is weapon, only with his minion. Kel'Thuzad will revive it if needed.
Have fun (and sorry for bad english, not my mother language) !

LK no longer ignores Shieldbearer with his weapon. You don’t bother with the “keep one Trapped Soul alive” strategy anymore because LK is now on full offense.
Key for me was to have Kel’Thuzad and Sunwalker up on turn 8, then dropping Scaled Nightmare turn 9. He will bash the Trapped Souls off of Sunwalker which Kel’Thuzad then revives.
Dropping Ice Barrier and Illuminator turn 10 meant that after his Trapped Souls were dead his new hero power was pointless. Because he couldn’t attack my hero, I had an auto +4 health every turn. Go at his face full bore. I’d gotten a Faceless Shambler from Stonehill Defender so it didn’t matter that LK killed my 16/8 Scaled Nightmare because my 16/8 Faceless Shambler ended the game.
Good luck!
To be clear, I didn’t go at his face full bore until turn 8/9. For me, once his Trapped Souls were all dead, LK only revived Blackknight; that was it, no other creatures. Didn’t even have to deal with Blackknight since LK bashed him off of Sunwalker for me…and then Kel revived the Sunwalker.
When I finally got the mulligan it worked like a charm, great deck but most importantly, guide! Thanks a ton!
Wonderful! took 3 tries and it worked for me. Mulligan for Lackey and Counterspell. after going through the decks I realized barrier may not be necessary. if you can add, another card drawing card
