Mulligans
Kingsbane Rogue
Introduction
As you can already tell in the title, this deck revolves around drawing Kingsbane and proceeding to buff it with Deadly Poison and Southsea Squidface. Increasing the strength of your Kingsbane, turning it from a weak 1/3 weapon into a devastating 9/3 monster with lifesteal, healing you for 9 every turn while dealing 9 damage to the opponent. This deck is the KING, it rules over all, it truly is the BANE to every de- Ok I’ll stop here. Going past the introduction…
Winning Condition
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the one card you would need to win is Kingsbane. Therefore, one of the most essential ways to start paving your way to victory is to draw it. Thankfully, this deck has plenty of cards to help you with that task. Cavern Shinyfinder, Coldlight Oracle, Mimic Pod, Fan of Knives, Gadgetzan Auctioneer and even Bloodmage Thalnos are forms of card draw you can use to help draw your Kingsbane. Obviously, a 1/3 weapon by itself isn’t going to win you any games. You would need to buff it with Deadly Poison and Southsea Squidface, followed on with Leeching Poison to truly utilize the weapon to its fullest.
Adding up the numbers, if you were to draw 2 Deadly Poisons, kill 2 Southsea Squidfaces, your Kingsbane‘s maximum potential would only be a 9/3 weapon. That may seem like the maximum, however, you should not forget Mimic Pod and Sonya Shadowdancer. Both of them can help improve your Kingsbane. Mimic Pod can help draw a Deadly Poison or a Southsea Squidface and provide you with extra ways of buffing Kingsbane. Sonya Shadowdancer can be used to give you 1/1 copies of Southsea Squidface, aiding you in buffing your Kingsbane astronomically.
With Kingsbane, you also negate the effects of fatigue. You could equip Kingsbane, attack for a heal and hero power to shuffle it back into your deck, just in case you need to play the fatigue game.
*it is worth noting that Mimic Pod gives you a vanilla version of Kingsbane instead of the buffed version
Core Cards
Kingsbane Cavern Shinyfinder Leeching Poison Deadly PoisonMuligan
You can’t go wrong with keeping Kingsbane, if you do not have Kingsbane, keeping Cavern Shinyfinder is also fine. Normally, if I already have Kingsbane in hand, keeping a Deadly Poison would not be a bad choice, especially if playing against aggro.
Against slower decks, Coldlight Oracle and Mimic Pod can also be kept.
If you have Edwin VanCleef in hand, Counterfeit Coin, Backstab, Preparation, can all be kept for an early snowball with a giant Edwin.
Card Choices/Subsituitions
Bloodmage Thalnos – If you’re on a budget, you might not want to craft him. He isn’t a core part of the deck, but his versatility that can help make your Fan of Knives 2 dmg to all and his card draw potential is both pretty important. An epic replacement would be Boomerang or a rare one would be Coldlight Oracle. However, I would still recommend you to craft Bloodmage Thalnos, he is a staple in many decks due to his strengths, furthermore, he’s in the classic set and won’t be rotating out. He is also a safe card to craft.
Edwin VanCleef – If you’re on a tight budget, you could go for a second Coldlight Oracle or Sap. Otherwise, he too is a stable in Rogue decks. He is similarly also in the classic set and is a safe card to craft as almost ALL Rogue decks use him.
Sonya Shadowdancer – I get it, she’s not really used in a lot of decks. You don’t really want to craft her. I get it, although she may not seem very important, I can safely say that she has played a strong part in this deck in quite a number of games and she is not to be overlooked. However, a second Coldlight Oracle, another Elven Minstrel or Vilespine Slayer or Boomerang would work as a replacement.
Southsea Squidface – if facing against decks with removal spells/silence that can deny Squidface’s buff, running Naga Corsair might work as well, however, it is important to note that Naga only adds 1 attack to Kingsbane instead of 2.
Blade Flurry – a very good board clear, helps in many scenarios to clear the board. It acts as a potential 4 mana 10 damage board clear. If you dislike this pick, you can go with a Boomerang or a second Coldlight Oracle or Elven Minstrel instead.
Mimic Pod – You might not have seen this card in other Kingsbane Rogue decks, this is a card I decided to add in as it helps provide card draw & it adds a copy of a card to your hand. Almost every single card in the deck would be a good target, so I don’t really see why not. However, another Coldlight Oracle or an Elven Minstrel would work just as fine.
Kingsbane – if you don’t have Kingsbane, a good replacement would be miracle rogue.
Thank you for your time, have a great day climbing!
