Mulligans

Aggro Mulligans

Possibly also Anubisath Defender so that your turn 5 is a bit punchier.

The idea is that you use the tremendous cycling power of this deck (if Crystal Merchant only ever draws 1, we’re looking at 17 max draw in this list) to thin your deck to the point where Elise the Enlightened is live, at which point you’re able to take advantage of the double discount for huge damage with x4 Moonfire.

All the while powerful choose one effects keep you safe from aggro and allow you to apply pressure to stay in the game against midrange/control.

There are some cards missing that are worth serious consideration:

  • Worthy Expedition: something to do on the early turns while you’re floating mana that sets up for the later turns. I think this is very powerful, and certainly belongs in a non-combo quest druid. I would put it in if I found space. I think Pounce will be more effective at early game control while floating mana and then will also be useful to help mitigate hand space issues from all the cycle later on.
  • Cenarius: even if your board is empty, post quest it puts 9/16 stats in play, with 8 heath behind taunt. That’s incredibly powerful, and, again, clearly belongs in a non-combo quest druid. In this deck, however, the main goal of the choose one package is to stabilize in the mid-game immediately after quest completion.
  • Zephrys the Great: obviously this is usually a staple in highlander decks, but this isn’t actually a highlander deck. We’re running Elise the Enlightened as part of a combo finisher after we’ve thinned our deck enough that she’s live. My thinking is that if you get to that point, you’re probably doing well enough that you don’t need Zephrys the Great. Copying Zephrys with Elise sounds fun, but that’s for some memey value druid to play with.

Other notes:

  • the Innervate is for when the combo hits Malygos and you had to use Flobbidinous Floop earlier to double up on Oasis Surger or Anubisath DefenderMalygos at 2 mana x2 + 7 mana Gloop Sprayer is an 11 mana combo. Note that if Dreampetal Florist hits Gloop Sprayer you can get 4 geese for 9 mana, or 3 in the case of Flobbidinous Floop. It would be nice to run a second Innervate that you could use in the early game to float mana even on turns where you would really like to play a Wrath for example, but again, the list is extremely tight.
  • 1 Overflow seems good to me, but 17 cycle is a lot. The full combo requires that your hand be empty except for the pieces, which could be a serious problem sometimes. I can imagine a situation where you can’t get Overflow or Nourish out of your hand without fatiguing as you head into your final combo turn. However, I think this is really powerful when it is playable, and this unfortunate case is only when you need the full 84 damage combo. If 32, 42, or even 22 will do (so basically against anything other than control warrior and thekal paladin) you will always have room for at least one non-combo card, and often 2.
