Mulligans
Overview
Today, I was fortunate enough to open a golden legendary. I was also unfortunate enough for it to be Dragon Soul. I was tempted to dust it, but a friend of mine told me to make some use out of it, partially because he wanted to see me suffer and partially because the art is genuinely impressive. Well, the joke’s on him because I am now the proud maker of a 9:1 win:loss ratio deck at roughly rank 10.
How to Play
Based on a fan favorite, Miracle Rogue, this deck uses the same concept: mill and buff. The main goal is either to pull out Dragon Soul and Radiant Elemental and start to rapidly dispense cards using Gadgetzan Auctioneer , use a combination of Shadow Visions, Mind Blast, and Shadowreaper Anduin for rapid bursts of damage, or use Divine Spirit and Inner Fire for the combo everyone knows and despises. Violet Teacher and Sand Drudge allow you to fill the board with small minions, which is useful because this deck only has 15. Grave Horror is a typically free 7/8 taunt, so it’s very important. Finally, cards like Northshire Cleric and Mass Dispel are useful for draw power and tempo.
Counters
Allow me to address Hunters, as that’s the only thing anyone is interested at this point. This deck preys on hunters and drinks their salty tears. Spell Hunter/ Secret Hunter have no hope if you quickly double your Radiant Elemental’s health then bash their faces in. Midrange is unable to make effective trades with the somewhat bulky 3-health drops and loses board control to a bunch of 1/1 Taunts. Deathrattle is too slow to do anything before they inevitably die, and, in the strange occurrence a game goes past turn 9 and they have scary stuff, Shadowreaper Anduin or Mass Dispel save the day.
The only deck this really struggles with is Control Priest. Duskbreaker wipes any undeveloped boards or boards filled with 1/1’s and Psychic Scream is a pain as always. For this matchup, you’ll generally lose unless they fail to draw Duskbreaker. Big Priest is as slow as Deathrattle, meaning you can easily outspeed it.
The last deck I faced against this deck was Odd Pally, and this was an interesting game. However, I think I can safely say that pulling out either Sand Drudge or Grave Horror will force the Odd Pally to concede, so try to mill for Taunts in any of those matchups.
Alternatives
If you are out of dust despite the fact that a dust event is happening, or you want to change things up a bit, here’s my advice:
- Dragon Soul is the most fun part of this deck, but it is by no means necessary. You can easily swap it out with a Spirit Lash, Bloodmage Thalnos, or Psychic Scream if you don’t.
- If you want a more minion based deck, as opposed to a more mill based deck, consider swapping Regenerate for Seance. This allows you to place extra Grave Horrors or Radiant Elementals.
- If you feel Shadow Ascendant is too slow, consider running Silence for extra mill power.
Closing Marks
Remember, this deck is not a top-tier deck. I do not recommend crafting Dragon Soul just to summon a bunch of 5/5’s. However, if you have these cards and want to have a little fun, do give this deck a try. Thank you for reading.
Hello!! Very nice deck you build there 🙂 however I’ve got a few questions currently I’m playing a combo priest deck( if you are internest I can post my deck list) 1st my main draw engine is cleric to Pyro and CoH, how good is the auctioneer engine? 2nd I run 2x soul priests CoH and 2x pyros for clears witch is pretty usefull but probably you manage the board with tokens how effective is that? 3rd does having both DS/IF combo and anduin+ mind blasts work or many times your hand gets cloged? And lastly in my version Im playing Topsy instead of IF helps a bit dealing with an early doomsayer too but by your opinion is the large body IF provides more usufull in case you need an early 7/7 for example to push damage? Thanks in advance and again very interesting deck and unfortunately I ain’t got a dragon soul 🙂
Great list ! How do you feel about one or two copies of Seance ? If you like the idea, what would you replace ?
I would consider swapping either 2 Regenerates or 1 Violet Teacher and 1 Regenerate for Seance. I have been experimenting with that and it generally ends with several 7/8s, so do try it!
Sigh….I remember the day I opened Dragon Soul. That day was a bummer. I’ll try this out tho, thanks!
No problem! Whenever you get a bad card, try to make a deck out of it. It works most of the time! Except for Harbinger Celestia… you aren’t doing anything with Harbinger Celestia…
