Mulligans
This is my go at making quest druid work. The main difference between this and other quest decks is the use of tomb lurker. I played about 25 games with this deck and am getting a 55% win rate. The idea of the deck is to get your Cursed Disciple out as soon as possible using Wild Growth & Oaken Summons then completing the quest using one of the other low cost 5 attack minionsHarrison Jones, Leeroy Jenkins. In most games you can complete the quest by turn 6 or turn 5 if you have either Wild Growth or The Coin. The most important card in this deck is Tomb Lurker this can be used to summon a second cursed disciple on turn 5 ensuring that as long as you have played either a Cursed Disciple or Oaken Summons on turn 4 you can complete the quest by turn 6. Tomb lurker also has value in the late game if n ot used early to summon additional copies of your other deathrattle cards Rotten Applebaum ,Giant Anaconda ,Deranged Doctor
Jungle Giants should be played on turn one always.
Lesser Jasper Spellstone useful for taking out single target threats boosted byOaken Summons and Ferocious Howl
Wild Growth this is the most important early game card and should always be kept at the mulligan stage.
Ferocious Howl This can be used early on to boost Lesser Jasper Spellstone and draw a card but is best kept until the quest is complete as it will draw a 0 cost minion.
Cursed Disciple this is the second most important early game card and should always be in your mulligan target list. if used on turn 3 after Wild Growth it effectively gives two of your five 5 quest steps on turn 3.
Oaken Summons this card can be kept at the mulligan stage although Cursed Disciple should take priority. It can be used early on to summon a Cursed Disciple However if you use it after the quest is complete it can be used to summon a big minion which after the quest all have 0 cost.
Harrison Jones weapon removal and counts towards the quest good play if you don’t have Tomb Lurker
Leeroy Jenkins same as Harrison Jones counts towards quest if you don’t have Tomb Lurker
Nourish can be used to ramp your mana but is best played to draw 0 cost minions after the quest is complete.
Rotten Applebaum good mid game play and can be resummoned using Tomb Lurker
Spreading Plague good defence against paladin or anyone else with a big board presence .
Giant Anaconda It is common to draw some big 8 9 or 10 cost minions before turn 7 so this card can be used to cheat them out especially Deathwing with loses its battlecry if summoned in this way.
Malfurion the Pestilent good play in any druid deck
Ultimate Infestation good play in any druid deck. and a really good play once the quest is completed to draw a bunch of 0 cost minions
Deranged Doctor The Lich King Alexstrasza Tyrantus These last four cards are all good plays but could be substituted for other big minions
Essential mulligans: Jungle Giants Wild Growth Cursed Disciple
Secondary Mulligans:Oaken Summons
The big minions in this deck could be replaced, although the one i’ve used seem to work quite well. The only card that I am thinking of replacing is Giant Anaconda. I was considering Bone Drake instead which would give some extra minions when they die and have good synergy as a target for Tomb Lurker
IMPORTANT!
I have lost a couple of games from the following simple mistakes. Do not use Giant Anaconda to complete the quest as your 5th 5 attack minion. The reason for this is that Barnabus the Stomper will be added to your hand after playing the anaconda if your opponent then kills the anaconda it can summon Barnabus the Stomper without triggering its battlecry.
The second card you need to be careful of is Harrison Jones as it draws cards. In one game I used it on turn 8 after to complete the quest. Unfortunatley I had an almost full hand and it drew four cards filling my hand so Barnabus the Stomper got burnt. Make sure to leave room for him.
I tried Tomb Lurker in a Quest Druid deck to gain extra copies of the Cursed Disciple – however I found I’d often get scuppered by pulling a “weak” Deathrattle from the opponent (one that didn’t help with the quest anyway); Thalnos or Loot Hoarder for instance. Might work better in this deck as it’s far more Deathrattle focused.
How does Deathwing work out in this deck? Seems like it’s going to be fairly inconsistent without Dragonhatcher to bypass the Battlecry which, I’m guessing, you’re not going to want to trigger like 95% of the time. Yes the Anacondas are there, as is the possibility of pulling it from the deck with Oaken Summons after the quest is complete – but still…
