I stumbled into this combo with Blood Troll Sapper as I was trying to make my new Hir'eek, the Bat work (hint: it doesn’t). I had two Scarab Eggs on the board along with the Blood Troll. I hit face for 5, then I cast Hellfire for another 3, plus 4 from my eggs exploding. Then I cast my second Hellfire for another 15 (3 + 2*6), totaling 27 damage. Why bother with Hir’eek when we can chain so many death triggers together??
First few games with this I lost. Quickly. I was aiming for a combo deck but realized I needed to go more aggro. I swapped out spells for minions, especially minions with <4 casting cost.
- Dark Pact -> Hooked Reaver
- Shadowflame -> Flesheating Ghoul
- Explodinator -> Mecharoo
- Defender of Argus -> Stonehill Defender
- Abomination -> Saronite Chain Gang
- Eggnapper -> Shallow Gravedigger
- Mountain Giant -> Witch's Cauldron 2nd copy
How my strategy has changed:
I used to try drawing a full hand to maximize Arena Fanatic and Mountain Giant , but by that point I was already on the struggle bus. Stonehill and Gravedigger replace themselves for the Fanatic and help establish early board control. I’ll cast Spirit of the Bat turn 2 if I can trade with Mecharoo. Similar thinking for the Cauldron or Flesheater on making a trade, but ideally I’ll have taunt protection for them.
The combo is kind of hard to pull off because it requires Blood Troll to stick, but it’s feasible to have both Scarab Eggs in hand along with a Hellfire and a Defile to pull off 19 damage without attacking. I need to be careful though because the eggs can only be buffed twice to still pull this off (2/4’s could be reduced to 1 health with Hellfire and then Defiled). Replicating Menace is the back-up plan.
