Dean “Iksar” Ayala Is Once Again Asking For Your Hearthstone Feedback

About a year and half ago, Hearthstone Game Designer Dean “Iksar” Ayala asked the community for some feedback. The question was what would bring players who no longer see Hearthstone as their main game back. Today, he asked the same question once again:

While it’s hard to say whether the feedback mattered, it’s important to mention that many of the features requested by players ~18 months ago were already implemented or will get implemented soon:

  • New game modes (Battlegrounds already released and another coming this expansion).
  • Achievements & progression system (coming next expansion).
  • New class.
  • Better F2P experience (no duplicate protection across all rarities).
  • Basic/Classic rework (possibly coming with the upcoming rotation).

So, as you can see, the question might be worth answering – it seems that Team 5 genuinely cares about feedback and wants to bring the most requested features. Even if Hearthstone is still your “main game”, I think that it’s worth to say what you think. You can reply to this tweet.

get rid of all the bloody created cards in a match !! people make decks to test thier skill and yes in all card games there is a element of luck ,, but when you play against a mage , rogue , priest , you are playing against nearly 2 decks of cards with all the cards they can create randomly , theres no skill involved in that . also moneterisation needs adapting better for players now and the disenchanting cards for dust – 1 legendary that costs 1600dust to craft , disenchants for obnly 400 , hearthstone is a few years old now , it needs to move forward and progress , adapt otherwise more and more players will just stop playing a leave , example – when a new set comes out most people drop money into it some buy both the bundles ,, for way less than that i can buy fifa 21 for playstation and play that all year ,, yes its a buisness but also dont forget that the players are its core and without those , no company has any buisness .

I have said it so many times and I’ll say it once more since feedback is being given here. In a card game, one must have a speculation of what the opponent’s hand might look like and vice versa. Then a variety of choices is going to be created, making the game interesting in ways that the “created by” cards can never attain. All in all, it is a mixture of “ingredients” and I suggest that the “random ingredient” is decreased immediately.

Without Peter on this one. RNG is ruining (competitive side of) the game. A little randomness is not bad, especially if you can manipulate it (e.g. only 4 beasts in deck for guardian animals) but the extreme high variance effects like card generation, box, conj, yogg, evolve,… make winning and losing ot fun or skill based.
Remember Boarcontrol getting hit in the face by three generated Windlords?
My suggestion would be to put all high variance rng cards (I am sure blizzard has stats and can find a bench mark) in a “Hall of Fun” which is banned from tournament play. They could even ban them from Legend rank, considering ranks up to diamond “fun ladder”.
I am not on twitter, so if @stonekeep or anyone else could post this to Ayala, I would be grateful.

Sadly, I quit hearthstone a few expansions ago, for the simple reason of them increasing randomness, making games way less fun to win or lose. Losing to your opponents randomly generated puzzle box is never going to be fun

I was a F2P that spend money only on single player adventures.

    Here are my thoughts :
    1) Honestly the quality of the adventures went down very very much and every time I was less compelled to but the next one was till I stopped. There is no real challenge and the story feels like a filler, there by mistake. An example for all is the end of the dragon trilogy. Super boring. I expected so much more than a bunch of forgettable encounters.

    2) there is no reason to have filler cards. Make less card and every card count. It’s frustrating to get an epic /legendary that is completely useless. It kills the happiness.

    3) I have tons of dust. Sometimes I’m undecided if to craft a card or not. Would be nice a “test area” where all cards are available for testing. It may be paied in gold the access or with a max of minutes /games tested per week

    4) wish list: custom cards accessible in special modes

Thank you for your attention 🙂

I really enjoy battlegrounds, and although the locked heroes is annoying as F2P, I learn to live with it. I would be more willing to cough up the gold for a tavern pass if there were rewards for ranking up in battlegrounds – cards/packs like competitive play has every month or an alternative reward to help you be more competitive in battlegrounds, like win % of heroes before you select, or being able to see the minions being offered before you select a hero, etc. Since I play traditional hearthstone and battlegrounds, I wouldn’t mind either reward, but for people who only play one or the other, I am sure would prefer battlegrounds rewards for playing battlegrounds.

Being able to see minions offered before selecting a hero would help tribe-based heroes like Fungalmancer Flurgl, Patches, Lord Jaraxxus significantly since it is important to hit specific tribes early.

I definitely agree with this, or just by default one of the minions at the start is of that tribe.

And I would LOVE a draft mode like MTG Arena. Play just like Arena mode, you draft cards and play until you lose 3 games, but you keep all the cards you draft plus get rewards for number of wins. So it would cost more gold to enter, but getting to pick cards to add to your collection is an awesome perk, especially when you hit elusive legendaries.

I believe that’s the goal with the progression system overhaul planned for next expansion. The plan is that players will earn XP no matter which mode they play, and that XP will translate to rewards like Gold, Dust or packs. So you will get the same progress no matter what mode you play – Constructed, Battlegrounds or any of the upcoming game modes (there’s one coming this expansion, but I’m pretty sure that we’ll have more in the future).
