While Chinese card back design competition might not be something that’s particularly interesting for you, as it doesn’t impact anything here in the west… wait a minute. It does! Let’s start again.
Blizzard China has held an official card back design competition recently. While it wasn’t publicly announced here, we’ve learned about it thanks to ZelKnow Twitter user, who often shares news and deck lists from China. Based on the info we’ve got from him and from translating this post (thanks Google), we’ve learned that the “Legend Award” (1st place) winner’s card back will get added to the game. Interestingly, the next three places called “Epic Award” have a clause that they MIGHT get added to the game too, so we might see between 1 and 4 card backs from this competition in Hearthstone. Other prizes included solid cash rewards, Hearthstone-themed pillows, and a tablet for the “lucky winner” (I think that it was randomly selected among all entries).
You can see all the finalists here. To be honest, they’re all amazing and the overall quality is so high that I wouldn’t mind seeing any of them in game. First one will be 100% added to the game, the next 3 might, while the rest of them are honorable mentions:
The winner is absolutely gorgeous but it’s the snake the one that really caught my attention, it’s pretty simple yet filled with details, the color palette is quite simple too using only charcoal, orange fire and an ambar snake as gradient.
Solid, sober, elegant.
Oh god the Phoenix one is so gorgeous <3
Called “Kael’thas Sunstrider”,yeah it’s amazing i hope it makes into the make, really feel like i needed it.
I really thought that the Sir Annoy-O would have been top 4, would’ve been a great one to have added to the game.
Is there a translation of this anywhere? (preferably English)
I didn’t see any English translation, sadly. I used Google Translate on this page and while it’s not perfect, it’s readable: https://yx.blizzard.cn/news/detail/105/48861
Thank you!
The muloc one is a good idea. I d like to have one demon, one elemental… I like to personalize my pirates deck with the Edwin card back.
