Wyrmguard Card Review

Too bad that it’s not a Dragon itself, then it would be much better, as it would also activate other synergies if you draw it early. Right now drawing it early makes it completely dead. Without the Dragon synergy, it’s terrible, but you obviously wouldn’t put it into a deck which doesn’t play Dragons. With enough Dragons to pretty much guarantee the synergy, it’s a 4/11 Taunt for 7 mana.

Two points of comparison – first is Ancient of War. Those are roughly similar – 5/10 might be a bit better on Turn 7, because it clears the 5 health minions too. However, AoW is a Druid card, so this one can be played in other decks too.

So another point of comparison would be Bog Creeper – 6/8 Taunt. This has one more stat in total, but more health is always better on the Taunt, so the 4/11 is most likely a better distribution of stats. But it’s not like it’s much better – in slow matchups, the extra attack might actually be better than health.

To be honest, I’d probably rather play Primordial Drake. A big Taunt, it’s also a Dragon AND deals 2 AoE damage, which is much more important than more health against Aggro decks. The only downside is that it costs 1 more.

Card rating: 3/10

You add this guy in a deck with primordial drakes and stonehills with some other dragons and suddenly you will never run out of taunts.

I just think this has overall too good of a stats for taunt. I try to find other flaws than the dragon synergy but I really think this card might be even better than Lich king due to being 1 mana cheaper and having better stats for a taunt.

Dragon Decks will love this Card.

It’s just so Powerful for what it can Accomplish.

Think of it as a 2 Mana Cheaper Sleepy Dragon, but you lose 1 Health instead.

P.S. This Card should at least be in the Rare or Epic Rarity in my Opinion. How the Hell is this a Common Rarity?

A Tar Lord for Dragon decks. Interesting. Warriors never used Tar Lord extensively but it’s possible this finds a home somewhere else as a neutral minion.

Since this is not a Dragon by itself and it comes out too late to be as impactful as Wyrmest Agent and Twilight Acolyte are, I don’t think it’ll improve the state of the Dragon package when The Witchwood drops. If the Dragon package improves in the coming sets, this will see play since it will be enough to save yourself against aggro fairly often. Plus, the 11 health will allow it to take multiple hits from even rather large minions.

It’ll be as good as the dragon package is overall. Too bad it isn’t coming out when the Dragon package would be in a better shape.

Constructed playability probably depends on whether there’s a plausible Dragon Priest/Lady in White deck… seems like there are four options here. A 3/11 vanilla for 7 is lousy, 4/11 taunt is quite solid, 11/11 vanilla is strong, and 12/11 taunt is VERY strong. (The other question, of course, is whether Dragon Priest needs another large minion, especially one that isn’t a dragon…)

I definetly think you’re right about this card. Seems like it could be a decent card in a deck like that, priest is lossing a lot of dragon support from the rotation though.

Well if all else fails could be a decent slot in for an odd dragon priest. There aren’t very many cards in the 7 many slot, and the cards that are there usually have very poor quality, this however is fairly good compared to other card of that cost. Probably only in wild for the time being though.

Some neutral Dragon Support is definitely appreciated. This is far from the power level of Netherspite Historian, and I even think Bookwyrm is better. But it’s solid. 3/5 stars.
