Witch’s Cauldron Card Review

Sure? Random Shaman spells again? As much as it makes sense on a Hero card like Hagatha the Witch, I just can’t see it working too well on this one.

It’s pretty much unplayable by itself. 3 mana 0/4 is useless, it dies for free. You need to play it when you trade something. Realistically, most of the time, you will get like 1 or 2 random Shaman spells from it. Is it good enough? I honestly doubt it. Like I’ve mentioned when discussing Hagatha – there are lots of situational/bad Shaman spells and if you get only one or two, the chance to low-roll is quite significant.

Another thing I dislike about this card is that it doesn’t really fit anywhere. If you play a fast deck with lots of minions, most likely some sort of Token/Aggro deck, do you really want to play a 3 mana 0/4 or get a bunch of random Shaman spells? At the same time, if you play a slower deck that could actually benefit from it – you don’t really have lots of minions to trade in order to get value from it.

It reminds me of Cult Master, but Cult Master makes more sense, because fast decks prefer to draw cards from their deck instead of getting some random spells. 4/2 stats are also a better fit into an Aggro deck than 0/4, to be honest, even though the latter is harder to remove.

The card has a nice flavor, but I just can’t see it being too good. Maybe if we see some powerful Shaman spells this expansion that will make the pool this card draws from better.

Edit: Wait, with the current wording, it MIGHT mean that the card also procs from itself. If that’s the case, it’s better, as you always get at least one guaranteed random Shaman spell. Still not good, but if that’s the case it might make some sense. However, there was no official confirmation, so I’m sticking with my initial review for now.

Nope, the initial translation said “WHENEVER a friendly minion dies”, but the official one is “After” – definitely not proccing from itself.

Card rating: 3/10

Got 10 wins in the arena as paladin. Cauldron + necrotic geist = insane value
    Constructed however… meh

Waiting for that witch’s cauldron quest mage deck to come about. Trading novice engineers, loot hoarders and bloodmage thalnos, seems good.

I’ve said it 2 times, I’ll say it again. Don’t dismiss this card yet! Over half the cards haven’t been shown, and Blizzard knows the Shaman cards are low quality. Put 2 and 2 together. They are going to print more (good) Shaman spells. We haven’t seen 1 yet, so that means they’re coming later on. It makes sense. Think of this before you bash Witch’s Apprentice, Hagatha, and Cauldron.

So I think people are dismissing this right away without thinking about the long term. This is a NEUTRAL card that gives you SHAMAN spells when your minions die. Essentially all classes now have access to shaman spells, which will definitely affect the meta over the next two years.

As a 1/4 this card would be bad but as a 0/4 it is absolutely unplayable

Brings me back to the MTG Bogbrew Witch combo days. Just gimme a Festering Newt Shaman-specific 1-mana 1/1 which gives a Shaman Spell on a deathrattle and that’s an auto-craft deck for me 😀

In reality, this seems like a pretty bad card. If you’re playing this, you’re either a Shaman going all-in on the gimmick (which will probably be me once the expansion hits), or you’re a control deck which for whatever reason doesn’t have enough control tools.

It can do decently in aggressive decks as you’re likely to get the proc a good amount of times; however, most of the Shaman spells are more oriented around control, so I’m not so sure. I guess there’s Lava Burst and Lightning Bolt, as well as Crackle in Wild, so just go face, trade at the right time, hope you get direct damage?

I think this card is bad. It wants alot of minions in your deck so maybe like token deck? Alot of the times they want to go face, but this wants them to die. What is a minion based deck gonna do with shaman spells? Shaman has alot of like board clear or damage cards but alot of bad cards and i think minion based decks dont rly like the idea of overload. This card cant protect itself, maybe if this was like a 3 mana 2/4 then maybe it could have worked but 0/4 on turn 3 is not hard to kill and in late game this is bad. This is a cool idea but too weak.

Ok this may just be the worst card in the set so far , sucha dissapointment it has such a cool artwork. Shaman always gets fked with the artworks , ice breaker also cool artwork but underpowered card.

Well, its neutral so you can use it in a lot of decks and…two conditions to it work:if you really need shaman spells(the worst ones cause so much them are very situational, maybe it’s a smart design to make this card balanced)and have so much minions so,you can put a deck that have one of these conditions and try to change the deck to done the another condition

Lady in white? However situational that is, I don’t really see another home for this thing.

Neat idea though, allowing all classes to have access to some other classes’ cards – kinda like that one TGT card that gave you a paladin one. Totally open to see more stuff like this in the future (not necessarily as 0/4’s, but hey).

These “whenever a friendly minion dies” cards have generally been pretty bad, so at least the cauldron is following tradition. As usual, the most realistic way to use this is with Unleash the Hounds, and now we can add Hunting Mastiff in a similar role. Guess what? For 1 more mana you can play Cult Master. That’s right folks, for a single mana point more, you can play a minion that’s actually capable of attacking, and can get you cards you actually want instead of a total coin flip. Nothing like a Totemic Might or Avalanche to make you realize just how good the cards you put in your deck are.

Yaeh that was my first idea either.
Mabe for trolldecks that use leyline Manipulator.
But your right Cult Master is 1000 times better.

I dunno. Priest got some decent ones.

Druid got crapped on, neutral is trash and Rogue is just being f-ing trolled, sure.

But Priest got decent cards 😉

This has to be an April Fool’s card, right? I mean, even the name is gramatically incorrect: “Witch’s cauldron” it should read. Total meme. 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Shaman is the only class getting a new hero legendary, so they already are somewhat of a special snowflake.

No worries. Why would ANYONE put this crap in their deck. Shaman is safe.

    April 1, 2018 at 11:29 PM

Well now let’s just look at it for a second. It’s a 3 mana 0/4, so you can Meta Wagon recruit it. You can regular recruit it with Druid and it needs minions to die, so Warlock would love this card if you use Defile or Godfrey. Or taunts?
I think the value potential with this whole chaos Shaman thing will be very interesting.
I’m excited for Hagatha Shaman. With the card pool being so empty, there is a higher chance that you’ll get what you need more than what you don’t.

Oh yeah that’s the dead give-a-way that this is an April Fools card. Also, Hagatha’s just supposed to up Chaos Shaman’s ante. This card would give too much synergistic power to the concept. I doubt Blizz would be that careless.

        April 1, 2018 at 11:35 PM

Yes, if. Cultmaster is not a bad card. It saw play in Zoolock, Paladin, and Hunter in the past.

Cultmaster isn’t played right now, though, so this card probably not see play just because of how poorly stated it is.

          April 1, 2018 at 11:41 PM

But I don’t think it’s as bad as it looks. If three minions die then it might be worth it, especially if shaman is getting good spells. I just don’t know what kind of deck or class can be token-y enough to pull the effect off consistently and at the same time make the best use of shaman spells….other than the Shaman class itself. LMAO

Potentially Mage with the new card vexcrow. IT IS THE PERFECT CYCLE OF INFINITE VALUE!

YOU have vexcrow and cauldron out. play a spell. then the minion vexcrow summoned dies, then you get a new spell. play it, newminion, new death. INFINITE VALUE FOR EVER!

Cult master have been nerfed from 2/4 to 4/2. The weakness of cult master is his 2HP. This card has more HP so it doesn’t die from most of the AOEs.
