Wisps of the Old Gods

Wisps of the Old Gods Card

Wisps of the Old Gods is a 7 Mana Cost Epic Druid Spell card from the Whispers of the Old Gods set!

Card Text

Choose One - Summon seven 1/1 Wisps; or Give your minions +2/+2.

Flavor Text

They're just normal wisps, actually. The "Of the Old Gods" bit is just marketing.

Hold up guys, we all know this card is awful. Dreadful, really. But this card has a lot of potential is Yogg-Saron is played. Yogg-Saron can use wisps of the old gods, which makes the card much better, in theory. If Yogg-Saron casts this card then it provides a much larger board in case everything goes wrong and he starts fireballing or pyroblasting your own board, or it provides a much larger board for him to distribute buffs on your side. Again, I’m not advocating playing this card, but it might be pretty good if Yogg-Saron casts it.

Lets say you have a decent amount of minions on board and you play this. You choose the +2 +2 effect, and then after that you use savage roar 😛

Your hero gets +2 attack and all of your minions get +4 attack and +2 health

    :O :O

This idea dies at the “you have a decent amount of minions on board” part.

This awful card made me realize it would cool if they made a druid legendary with an effect of “Whenever you ‘choose one’ on a druid card, the other is chosen as well.” If was costed appropriately (highish cost with a reasonable but not unremovable body), it would at least make something like this which is otherwise likely to never see play be playable in fun combo decks.

That would actually buff this card to being the same as the 10 cost “Mirror of Doom” you can get from Rafaam… that might actually make it playable 🙂

The real question is; Is this worth playing over Cenarius, which has the same effect and more flexibility, AND a 5/9 body ?

Bloody hell blizzard, why do you even bother, with this garbage ? With the beast buff spell that was released I was actually hoping Druid would not be the next shaman of this expansion what with the force roar nerf incoming, guess I have to choose a new favourite class.

I thought they’d fired the guy who made Dark Wispers? Why the sudden change of mind to give druid yet another horribly unplayable card in the same set that gives people powerhouses like N’zoth, just like when they received Dark Wispers in the set that released DOCTOR BOOM?

    Good for egg druid.

egg druid either has no remaining board to buff or has already won the game by turn 7. This card is completely useless.

it’s very weak to board clears, as you are spending 7 mana for a bunch of 1/1 bodies. It’s +2/+2 to all minions is alright, but requires you to have a board established, it will likely take up much of your turn because of it’s 7 mana cost. Similarly to dark whispers, I don’t think I’ll run this other than in a niche deck. A+ on the name though.

This card seems unplayable in any decent deck. Literally any board clear in existence kills the Wisps and you spend almost your whole turn playing them. If you choose the +2/+2 option, it’s also crazy overcosted. Power of the Wild is +1/+1 for 2 mana. 2 mana + 2 mana = 7 mana? Err…not so much. Maybe if this was 5 mana, it would be viable. But 7? C’mon.

Mark of the Wild + Mark of Y’Shaarj both give +2/+2. For this card to outvalue those you need to buff at least 4 minions, which is extremely unlikely.

So a more expensive, less useful dark whispers. not impressed here unless force/savage nerf is huge

Broken cards getting nerfed to the ground doesn’t make a card that’s 6 feet under any good ya know. This card is just awful.

It’s an ok card. A bit too costly, though.
