Warpath Card Review
This card is really strong. While I don’t think it’s on the power level of Sleep with the Fishes (which is leaving Standard), it is actually much more flexible. Not only it doesn’t need any activator, but IT can serve as an activator. So, this card is basically 5 cards in one, depending on which one you need: 2 mana 1 AoE damage, 4 mana 2 AoE damage etc. For example, at 2 activations it’s a 1 mana more expensive Volcanic Potion and at 4 activations it’s a bit like one mana more expensive Flamestrike (obviously, damaging your own side of the board can be both advantage and disadvantage depending on the board state).
The card has special synergy with other Warrior cards. For example, you can use it as an Execute activator if you need one. Warrior is also known for using cards that benefit from self damage. Acolyte of Pain is probably the best example. For example, playing Acolyte + this card three times on Turn 9 is a 3 damage AoE + drawing 3 cards. Which means that you’ve dealt 3 AoE damage, but instead of spending a card you’re a card up. It doesn’t necessarily seem best, but the thing is, that’s just one of the uses.
One important thing to remember is that it doesn’t deal all the damage up-front. That’s a big deal, and one of the reasons why Defile is so strong. For example, straight up 4 damage wouldn’t clear a Divine Shield minion – it would just pop the shield. This would pop the shield with first activation and then still deal damage to the minion itself. Same goes for Deathrattles – Paladin Adapts his Silver Hand Recruits to summon 1/1’s on death? Well, you can easily clear them both with this card.
The obvious downside of this card is that for its flexibility, you have to pay the hefty price – in mana crystals. Basically, at every step, the card is 1 or 2 mana more expensive than similarly working card (even more at 10 mana, because for 8 you can just clear the whole board with e.g. Twisting Nether). The upside, on the other hand, is damage being dealt in steps and the flexibility.
Another problem might be the state of Warrior class. Right now, Control Warrior is in a TERRIBLE spot, and the class is losing some key cards in the rotation, so they would have to print some really broken cards for it to see play. It also can’t be used in the Baku the Mooneater deck, if that will be a thing, obviously.
I’m already rating this pretty highly, but it can be even better IF they print something that synergizes with damage and Control Warrior wants to play. Because Rotface doesn’t count – it costs 8 mana so you can’t combo it with this card, and it will pretty much never survive until next turn.
Card rating: 7/10
So one thing Ive not heard anyone else talk about is if the echo cards can be put back in your deck with a Dead Mans Hand. If so, warrior will be stupid OP now… which is about damn time. Shaman, and Warrior in 2018!!!
this is called forest fire spread the word
Seems really expensive. If you want to AOE for 3 you have to spent 6 mana and it could kill off your minions too.
However it synergises well with Acolyte of pain, Armoursmith, Frothing Berserker, and even cards like Gurubashi Berserker and Night Howler (If you’re feeling extra meme-ish)
Strong, BUT Defile is WAAAAY better
Well yeah, to be fair, Defile is one of the strongest (if not THE strongest) board clears in the entire game, it’s hard to compete with that.
Defile is just op. 2 mana twisting nether
Well defile gets worse the better the opponent is playing around it. This card is an Aoe card in a class that really wants some aoe cards and has synergy with damage on the own minions.
The card depends entirely on how strong control warrior is. If it’s even slightly competitive then thus card is a guaranteed pick. Otherwise it’ll have to wait for the next expansion.
Am I the only one that doesn’t think it will be that strong? Just seems too expensive.
Yes it’s a tiny bit too expensive, but it has incredibly high synergy & flexibility. I highly doubt this card won’t make it into a tier 2 deck (or tier 3, if warrior is garbage).
This card pales in comparison to other AE Whirlwind type cards, especially compared with defile. Also, I’m not sure if Warrior really needs anymore removal, since they’ve already got so much.
Have in mind that with the rotation they will lose sleep with the fishes and the 3 mana drop with whirlwind battlecry. Overall warrior needs the refill this expansion
activates grommash too!
But you can only play it once the turn you play grom, so its just an overpriced whirlwind

Strong card by itself, looks like Blizzard has some stuff planned for Warrior this expansion with strong cards like this and Militia Commander
good but not at defile level, odd that this is not a odd card, i’m waiting for echo bash
This is the ultimate combo enabler, control warrior looks scarry.
This card is amazing vs. token decks (dude and murloc pally)
This card is good, lot of things it can be used for:
– 2 mana Whirlwind
– 4 Mana better volcanic potion (bypasses divine shield on first proc)
– 8 mana “flamestrike” with empty board
– Boardclear with cards like execute
– Wombocombos with cards like Acolyte of Pain and armorsmith
Is not a terrible top deck with empty hand
It is pretty expensive for the effect but definitely will be used.
I agree with you. The cost in comparison to other things, a bit more expensive… of course. However, offers you the versatility that you will need.
ROTFACE OP OP PLZ NERF
This could work VERY well with things like Acolyte of Pain, Rotface, etc. 4 out of 5 stars.
The card itself seems strong, though it’s a shame that it doesn’t work with Baku.
I feel the same way. It’s just that there was no way for it to not be powercreep on another card without being even.
1 mana- power creep on whirlwind and defile
3 mana deal 2- power creep on volcanic potion and flamestrike (is a 6 mana deal 4)
I was thinking start at 1 mana, and add the effect that it’s 1 mana more to play per echo.
Solid idea, actually.
Now that you mentioned it, I’d prefer this approach for Echo cards:
– Great value @ 1 mana
– Decent @ 2 mana
– Situational @ 3 mana
– “You really must like this, to spend all of turn 10 on this card” @ 4 mana
What would be the downside to echo then? Great card for it’s cost already and then putting extra on top of it would mean every echo cards is op.
