Walk the Plank Card Review

1 mana cheaper Assassinate, but only under a condition that the minion is undamaged. It’s a similar story to how Backstab is basically a 1 mana cheaper version of some 1 mana 2 damage removals, but also a minion has to be undamaged. However, the tempo gain of having 1 extra mana in the early game is much higher than a tempo gain of having 1 extra mana in the mid game, so Backstab is clearly better when it comes to that.

Given that you most likely want to remove big minions the moments they’re played, the downside on this card is not that severe. Just remember how solid Shadow Strike was, and this is a bit like a new version of the card. Instead of dealing 5, you destroy anything – that’s good, because you can also kill e.g. 7, 8 or 12 health minions. Unlike with Shadow Strike, you can’t hit face, but that wasn’t an important part of the card anyway.

It’s not a great card, especially that Rogue has access to Vilespine Slayer right now, which for just 1 more mana gets an extra 3/4 body – amazing tempo. But it’s definitely not the worst removal Rogue ever got, so with the lack of better cards, Rogue might want to play it competitively eventually.

Funnily enough, you can even use it for the Mecha'thun combo. “All” you need to do is to discount Mecha’thun once (Galvanizer) or get a Coin from somewhere, then play Mecha’thun on 10 mana, (Coin) + Prep + Walk the Plank. Doesn’t seem that difficult, comparable to other Mecha’thun combos, but then again, Rogue doesn’t have access to tools to keep him alive for as long as let’s say Priest, Warlock or Warrior.

P.S. Oh, and if Even Rogue becomes a thing, it can become removal of choice in the deck… since there’s not much choice outside of it (can’t play Vilespine Slayer).

    This can target your own Mecha’Thun unlike Assassinate.

    Might make Mecha’thun Rogue work better now, this plus prep is 1 mana, so all you need is 11 mana with mecha’thun, and Rogue can get coins as well as decrease cost of minions.

    Powerful card, elegant design, not totally sure where it fits right now. Odd Rogue? Can’t play it. General Rogue? Vilespine Slayer is much better and I’m not sure you feel the need to double up on Assassinate effects. Even Rogue? That might be a deck now, and COULD end up using this, but is likely to be a very tempo-oriented deck and Sap fits this role better. Do you play Sap AND Walk the Plank? Maybe, but I’m not sure.

        Miracle Rogue has access to the full card pool AND is looking to stall out the game, though. Vilespine Slayer is a dramatically better card, and Sap fulfills that same stall purpose in a much more efficient way. So I don’t think you put this in Miracle Rogue ahead of those cards, and then the question becomes whether you want a 5th and 6th copy of hard removal. Fairly expensive hard removal at that, in an archetype that’s all about being hyper efficient and drawing out their deck. It’s an interesting question, and not one I have an answer for.

    Good card. It doesn’t come with a body, but is faster than Vilespine, which does matter imo.
    Using it as a curve play in aggressive decks, could go a long way. Weak to board swarm, but hey, it’s a rogue card, after all. 4/5

    It’s cool that this is like the Magic card Walk the Plank, which also destroys a creature. This seems like it will be a Rogue staple, especially after Vilespine rotates.

    Good replacement for Vilespine after rotation, plus it can destroy your own minions so Mecha’thun Rogue is much easier to do now. You only need one galvanizer and prep now. Not sure if that’s enough to make it viable but seems good man.

    4-mana random Assassinate that can kill your own minions . . . . 2.5/5 for the fact that it basically has a 50/50 chance of killing your own minion(s)

      It’s not random, you pick the undamaged minion you want to destroy.

    According to the text it can end up destroying your own minions if they fill the condition, you can obviously play around it, but so does your opponent.
    Tmh you need either to be ahead on board to make trades and targeting one or more ennmy minions or voluntarily as a trigger on deathrattle but necrium is better. Or, you dont have minions of your own (Kingbane) but then it’s random.
    With prep you can develop a board after casting it, by without it as said above, Vilepine is better, and if single big threat are common in the meta, maybe you’d better run assassinate for 1 mana more.

    Walk the Plank is a cheaper Assassinate with a restriction. That’s obvious. It can also be seen as a one mana bump on Shadow Strike that will always kill a minion.

    It’s a fine card that might end up being just a little too expensive to see play in constructed in this next Standard format. Reason being, Rogues current line of single target removal, Backstab, Eviscerate, SI:7 Agent, and Vilespine Slayer, are all either more flexable or just straight out better.

    Most other class’ single target removal do a lot more for the same cost as Walk the Plank or the same effect for less. Comparing what one class’ spells do to another isn’t exactly a fair thing to do, but it does at least give a reference point. Walk the Plank just comes out short.

      Even rogue will never be a thing. Even decks are dependent on you wanting to hero power nearly every turn. This is reflected in the fact that the two (or three) relevant even decks have hero powers you want to use every turn (either drop a minion or draw a card). Rogue hero power value comes from needing to only use it once for two uses, so it has negative synergy with Even decks.

        No, even decks aren’t decks where you hero power every turn, they’re decks where you hero power every odd turn, and where your hero power is good on turn 1.
        Even rogue isn’t a thing because a 2mana 2/2 weapon is much better than a 1mana 1/2 weapon.

    insane card!
    if you are at 4 mana, or maybe later on, there will be a big threat you want to remove, the only condition is, that its undamaged. So remember Execute. This is similar to that card with another condition, and decent costs. I really like it 4,5/5. Its kind of Vilespine, maybe better or even. For Vilespine you need to trigger Combo, if not on Coint on 6 mana, but than you have a Minion on board with 3/4 you can also trade after. But i still guess its good!

    As good as this card is, I think only miracle rogue and maybe kingsbane rogue would use it. I’m not even that sure about the first one.

    As long as you have vilespine available you won’t use this. Maybe after the rotation but i doubt it

      I don’t know, Even rogue seems to be rising in potential, although currently it appears to be a pirate swarm deck, and would they run this? I don’t know, but potentially, as a way to remove taunts
