Very good if you build around it right. A bunch of small spells will make it bad while a bunch of expensive spells will make it good. It can pull out flamestrike, frost nova power of creation and pocket galaxy when you need it before it is in your hand also in only copies the card so you will still have it in your deck. Strong and fun 4.5/5 stars.

Not much you’ll want to pull out when mage generally runs mana low-cost spells right now to combo with mana cyclone. You don’t want to pull out anything that isn’t a board clear really. Too unreliable, situational, and understated to be run in constructed, but will probably be experimented with. 2/5

Well, I guess it has its uses, but it’s a little slow for what it needs to be. 3/5

It’s a Tortollan Primalist! except is actually useful! 4 Stars.

Note that this isn’t just purely for Midrange and Control Mage, but you can even go as far as to use this for Cyclone Mage and maaaybe even Khadgar Mage, just as long as there aren’t any enemy minions on board.

After Control Mage fell flat on its face in Rise of Shadows, there’s a little extra support here in Tortollan Pilgrim. Sadly, it’s not what the Control Mage archetype needs. You can have a sick turn 8 with the help of this card, but by that time you’ll have 2 health remaining and the enemy Rexxar will finish you off with his hero power and say Thanks.

This card could be good, but it needs a viable Control Mage shell to go into, and that in turn requires better anti-aggro tools. 3/5

My friend… you don’t know how much I miss my big spell mage from 2 expansions…. /sigh 🙁

I hear ya. Loved me some big spell mage as well. To be honest, I’m not sure we’ll have anything like that again; the Hearthstone class identities are based on the same classes from World of Warcraft, and in WoW, there are 4 mono-role classes: Rogue, Hunter, Mage and Warlock couldn’t tank and couldn’t heal, they could only deal damage. In Hearthstone, that translates into classes that need an aggressive game plan to win, they’re no good at playing defense.

Frost Lich Jaina and Arcane Artificer flew in the face of that, but with the devs making an effort to keep new cards more closely aligned with their class theme, I’m not sure Control Mage will ever be a thing again.

You can use this to Discover a copy of Power of Creation fo Conjurer itself in a “clean” board or any shenanigan on your side. HUGE VALUE in a minion based Deck in exemple: Dragon Mage!

Only issue with power of creation is it’s random so could pull Arcane Dynamo, Arcanosaur, Mad summoner, Meteorologist, Mossy Horror, Missle Launcher. Yeah there’s several good ones but the mediocre stuff tends to show up alot when things are picked randomly.

Conjurer has it’s bad apples as well Captain Hooktusk 6/3, Da Undatakah is alright at 8/5 but that late in game 5 health isn’t a hard removal, Heroic Innkeeper stuck as a 4/4 taunt, worst of the worst Hir’eek how would you like 2 of those, even a Splitting Festeroot which is iffy since can flood your board.

There’s alot of value to the card but the RNG will keep you in suspense. With those 2 spells. I’d still tag a puzzle box over those other two though they aren’t as RNG memey as the box.

OMG dark souls 3 flash back it’s one of the people on the bridge.

But no seriously this card is awesome for mage how many times have you been so close and all you would need is to freeze enemy’s field one more time and you didn’t top deck card needed.

I know what my next meme deck will be 2 copies of this and puzzle box. Turn 8 play this tag puzzle box, Turn 9 play this tag puzzle box, Turn 10 play puzzle box. That’s 30 randomly casted spells I wonder if I’d live to do that? Yogg-saron wasn’t nice to me hope his puzzle box is better.

The innkeeper should announce that “a turtle made it to the water” if you walk the plank this.

That sounds really cool. I don’t know if it’s good, but I like how similar to Spiteful Summoner this looks.
Maybe something with a 9 mana spell, or even the 10 mana spell that comes from the same set, or anything that sounds powerful when you can play it twice in a row really.

Definitely interesting and brings a lot of value. Good support for Highlander Mage (or slower mages in general) especially if it discovers a high value board clear or something like power of creation. The fact that the spell remains in your deck and you can still draw it is an upside as well. My only complaint is that it might be too slow, turn 8 is pretty late in the game and you may have already drawn your removal, or just be dead by that point.

Oh look it’s a tortollan primalist just not bad. Interesting, will see at least some experimenting. I feel like Mage is just full of spells this expansion, everything screams that.

Yes, I will build a deck with this and Puzzle-Box. No, I will not win a single game. Yes, I’ll have a great time.

5/5 attached to a flame strike, power of creation/ blizzard… and u get to keep the spell in your deck still. looks good 4/5 but might not be so great depending on meta as always.

If a mage control deck becomes viable (maybe even a Highlander one), this card might see play.
There’s a decent cardpool to support this (kalecgos, decent AoE, maybe even malacrass), but without cards like first lich jaina and dragons fury I’m not sure if a control mage will be playable in the face of Mana cyclone

      Agree,
      – looks almost BROKEN (besides it’s 8 mana cost…)
      – The ability is super strong and the body can be “upgraded” with conjurer calling
      Looks like a great card!

        July 23, 2019 at 9:02 AM

i mean ofc it not like i’m screaming „broken as f***“ or „Metadefining!“ …BUT it’s still ANOTHER super super strong card imho

i think this exp has a ridiculous high powerlevel in general

There’s some good spells to hit (Blizzard, Luna’s, Frost Nova, Power of Creation…) but I’m not sure any of those really benefit from having a very lategame 5/5 attached to it. Mage already has problems running Kalecgos. In other words: “has potential, but it’s greedy”.

It costs a little too much IMO, discover makes it better than grand archivist but only for the turn it is played. unless you run secrets/non targeted spells this could really be a detriment to play. More health on the card or choice of target would make me cringe a little less. So far we have seen Y’SPB and quest but both of those aren’t necessarily cards I would want to pull. On one hand we are getting more secret synergy but we have 3(?) secret removing cards in rotation and some underwhelming secrets so its a bit iffy to me to rely on them when secrets are very easy to circumvent.

So what is discover worth it in mana? Is it maybe 3 Mana? Glyph was 3 mana. Shadow Visions was 2. 8 Mana 5/5 is bad ovious. But what do i want to discover by turn 8 in my Deck? A Conjurer directly on this 8 Drop? Pyro? Another boardclear? Freeze? Dont know how good this is. 3/5

    • MrAranak
      July 23, 2019 at 7:23 AM

A 5/5 body with Blizzard/Flamestrike battlecry inst bad especially since it has no deck thin but it is had to justify an 8 cost 5/5 when you have no spells left in deck. I think it is meant to be run in the Reno or quest mage but neither of those cards is terribly exciting.

      July 23, 2019 at 8:44 AM

Discover AND Cast the Spell for +3 mana I guess because the 5/5 body is around 4,5 mana.

I really want this to work, but although this can be a 3rd/4th copy of blizzard/flamestrike on a stick, it can go one of two ways: either great in control mage or too slow at 8 mana. It certainly has a lot of potential. 4/5, although that’s probably wrong.
