The Glass Knight Card Review
It might not seem like it, but a 4 mana 4/3 with Divine Shield isn’t all that bad. It’s better than C'Thun's Chosen and to be fair, that card was often solid to drop on the curve (better against decks with low minion counts, worse against token decks that spammed the board).
What I like about it is that the effect basically means that you can’t abuse it in an aggressive deck. I mean, you CAN, but you don’t really want to put healing cards into your Aggro deck.
However, if you play a slower Midrange, or possibly a Control Paladin, you will probably have some life gain. Truesilver Champion is the best example – after Rallying Blade rotates out, you’ll most likely want to play the 4 mana weapon instead. Given that lots of healing cards are rotating out, you might possibly want to run e.g. Benevolent Djinn too – those synergize nicely, as Djinn replaces the Divine Shield on The Glass Knight every turn. Later in the game, it also combos nicely with Uther of the Ebon Blade – Lifesteal weapons means that you can theoretically restore its shield every turn if it doesn’t die (although it will be much easier to kill it in the late game).
It doesn’t seem like much, but it might be really annoying in the right deck. If you can’t get through the Divine Shield and kill it in a single turn, it will basically re-gain Divine Shield very often if you play a deck with lots of healing.
It also synergizes very well with the buffs. If you buff it, not only it’s harder to take down, but each Divine Shield will be worth even more.
Now, the question is, will a slow Midrange/Control deck with lots of healing exist? It really depends on the meta. Healing is not a great mechanic in lots of matchup. Even against Aggro, you need the board clears FIRST and only then, when you have stabilized, you need to heal up, so putting too much healing won’t do much. It’s much worse when facing Control decks – there are games in which you’re at full or close to full health for the majority of the game and healing is useless. That’s why you can’t pack too much of it into your deck. Realistically, healing is most useful against Combo decks that don’t OTK you or burn decks. So if there will be lots of them in the meta, a Healadin might raise as a way to counter them. But more realistically, if we see slow Midrange or Control Paladin, it will probably run only a few healing cards at best.
So, in the end, I feel like it’s a solid card and that’s about it. It’s not too strong, and I doubt that a deck built around it (Healadin) will exist. Too much healing in a deck is a really bad idea. But it MIGHT be worth to run it with just Truesilver and maybe 1-2 other healing cards. It does not need to regain its Shield every turn, even if you re-bubble it once, it’s still going to be good.
Card rating: 6/10
Guys, isn’t a divine shield 4/3 for 4 actually just strong full stop, even in a deck with absolutely no healing? I mean it’s a power creep up from silvermoon guardian, and an additional 1 attack on a divine shield minion is probably worth more than half a mana (seeing as every additional attack value is sort of doubled by the divine shield). I think this card has enough value to be played in pretty much any. Another case in point – psych-o-tron is a decent card: 3/4 divine shield taunt for 5 mana, similar stats and costs an extra mana just for taunt – and normally the pay-off for taunt is just half a mana.
So i think everyone is substantially underrating this cards stats, and it could be a decent 4 drop in aggro paladin, which is currently lacking 4 drop minions
Certainly a sleeper of the set, with the renewed inclusion of Truesliver as well as plenty of Lifesteal effects floating around this could be a midrange Titan.
I have tried to make heal-paladin work in the past. The issue is always taking damage. You need to find a balance of weapons (to take damage) and control cards and heals and cards that actually win you the game and… and… and. I LOVE the idea behind it but there is just too much going on to consistently draw the cards in the right order to have it all come together. If I open this card though I’m going to try
It’s a solid card by itself, but unless its some reference to something in Warcraft, I can’t think of any reason why this couldn’t be a a non-legendary minion since Paladin has gotten something similar to this in the past, Cobalt Guardian I believe it was. The card design isn’t that complex or really unique in this case.
Seeing more low cost legendary minions is always cool, but I’d rather have ones that do more with their lower costs like Wickerflame Burnbristle than ones with relatively minor effects like this. If this had Taunt, Rush, or maybe even Windfury, then the constantly respawning Divine Shield would easily become an issue for your opponent, especially if this card had two more health to go with it.
BRUH ITS MILITRON FROM THE ZELDA CDI GAMES
Jokes aside, imagine this with friendly bartender, a solid taunt and Bolvar Fireblood. Blessing of Kings or even Handbuffing this thing makes it even stronger, there’s so many possibilities.
Handbyggd rotating out except Val’anyr
Curves perfectly from Howling Commander to Bolvar Fireblood. This will see lots of play, it’s only weakness is spells.
I hope you’re joking since neither of those cards have really seen play ever since they were released. Neither of them are necessarily bad cards, Commander would be useful in a Control Paladin to get Tirion to their hand and Bolvar would be a powerhouse if a Divine Shield Paladin was workable, but neither of them really do enough to warrant playing them.
I’m not saying Divine Paladin will see lots of play, in saying that the card will.
Perhaps it will. I am uncertain because it currently is just solid. If it were a 4/4 or higher, I would be more inclined to agree.
I think people are sleeping on this card hard. One of my favorite cards released so far…
Agreed I think this is a very solid card that could be very good in the right deck but ppl are def undervaluing it.
4/5
Its an epic value card. For a legendary I think its just weak.
This card is very powerful. A 4/2 with a Golden bubble is good, but a 4/3 is pretty good. But regaining Devine shield easily is broken. Just think about using this effect 3 times: You own the board.
As not a legendary he would be too good.
I think you are overestimating how often a paladin even a control paladin heals. On turn 4 when you play this you were probably fighting for board so maybe there are 1 or 2 minions on each side of the board. But your hero has to have taken damage to be able to reup the shield. And if the minions have been trading for control your face has not taken damage, so you cant heal to get the shield back. But if you were ahead on board your oponent is trading with your minions to not die so you have not taken damage to allow the shield to come back. And if your opponent is ahead and you took damage so you could get the shiled back. They will just kill this understates 4 drop on board easily.
Now IF you can get this to survive a turn and reup its divine shield this gets scary when you buff it. I will give it that. You coin this on 3 it lives then you play 2 ring the bells. That is a 6/7 on turn 4 with divine shiled. I will take that EVERY DAY. Or if it keeps living get a spikeridge steed or blessing of kings for it being even better.
But the set up to get there or the conditions for it to happen are not easy
The art of this card looks like a Space Ghost villian.
I can’t see “art” in this card.
My 2y old nephew can draw a better picture
1:its a 4/3 minion that half of the times will be a 4/3 divine shield minion, and half of the times will be a 4/3 that get divine shield twice, these stats are very op,and you won’t lost tempo if your heal your own face(I will explain)
2:we can notice the heal mecanic to paladin work seemed like the “hurt mecanic” to warrior rigth now,you spend your cards to both kill opponent minions/heal your hero, and do it to get some effect from another cards, the extra healling from truesilver or djinnis isn’t just to healling your face,to some cards I remember rigth now it heal is a fuel to activate it texts:blackguard, happy ghoul, pearl, and now the glass knight(only cards really have a op effect)so if you put all these cards together, you won’t put heal cards just to be safety
Also combos with Bolvar fireblood for +2 attack for each devine shield
can we think of an epic bolvar OTK?
No.
Well you would have to destroy 15 divine shields so that might be kinda hard
My thoughts as exactly, if Blood Knight is not being rotated out, that could work with this card as well. It’s all situational and totally slow. At most, Glass Knight could regain Divine Shield, but then there’s Benevolent Djinn. So, maybe, just maybe this could work. It depends.
Blood Knight is a Classic card, so it won’t get rotated out.
I don’t think adding this solid, not super powerful but solid, card to the mix of healing synergies and healing cards Paladin has will be enough to push it such a Control Paladin-esque deck into relevance seeing as none of those cards have been good enough to include in Paladin ladder decks as of late.
If u can somehow give this card life steal, it cant be killed by any monster. 😀
That is if your face is still damaged.
I dont doubt its value, but its a bit awkward. If you play it in aggro, when are you going to heal and what? If you play it in control, aggro will make short work of it.
Then how about tempo? Or god forbid Restore Paladin?
Paladin’s healing options aren’t exactly the best at the moment.
Truesilver would probably be the best at the moment, but this and that are both four cost cards so you can’t play both in sequence efficiently.
Lay on Hands is a pretty decent value option but really slow.
Djinn is good on paper, but its slow to gain value.
This card is much better than people aren’t giving it credit for. 4 mana 4/3 divine shield is already just about playable (very comparable to piloted shredder) and if you restore health even once from say truesilver champion, benevolent djinn or very likely another card from this expansion it becomes insanely good.

We must to think that aggro decks becomes more slow after rotation
Aggro in Paladin will definitely slow down. Both primary aggressive archetypes the class has will be losing three critical cards each and Rallying Blade, which is shared between them. Murlocs are likely to become a niche deck while Dube Paladin if it still exists in the Year of the Raven, will likely shift more towards a midrange playstyle.
4 mana 4/3 with Divine Shield could already see play imho. The fact that you can regain it with cards like Truesilver Champion is also neat. I opened a Bolvar from KFT and I was about to dust it, but if I get this legendary in my packs, I might try a whacky Midrange Divine Shield Paladin deck, with Healing.
Leaves things open for experimentation and it would be an OK minion already without its special ability, so I’m giving it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I would spend my dust on something more OP though if given the choice.
Just missing rush I think
Why not “whenever (…) give A random friendly minion divine shield”??
Because then it would just die to whatever minion your opponent played on turn 2. Or a frostbolt. That kind of minion sucks. This guy, is meant to have super strong armor so he gets the divine shield.
Remember, all of the “buff minions with divine shield” synergies are rotating out with WotOG. This guy is meant to synergize with the heal cards we got in KaC (djinni and spellstone) and also Bolvar.
Aka the trash knight
GeekCulture.co really fumbled this reveal vid. Would it have been too much trouble to include some combo plays? I can think of a few cards you could use this with: Lynessa, Bolvar, Pally 4 drop weapon, Dollmaster Dorian, Paladin legendary weapon…. You don’t really get a sense of what you could do with this card going by this video. A little lackluster, sure. It’s average. Most of the legendaries in TWW have largely been memes except for our overlord warlocks – so I’m even more intrigued than ever to know what the other epic/legendary the paladin class will get this expansion.
This card is powercreep over cards that now see no play, (except the one that buffs C’thun in some meme decks)
Anyway paladins have gotten some really broken cards previous expansion so would be nice if they tune down a bit. 😀
Why is this a legendary?
This is worst than Cobalt Guardian from GvG, that one regains Divine Shield whenever you play a Mech, which so much more accessible
Cobalt Guardian is so much worse on so many levels. First of all, it costs 5 mana instead of 4, which is not insignificant. What’s even worse though: Cobalt Guardian does NOT start with Divine Shield, while this does. Yes, CG had two extra attack, but that makes sense, seeing as it costs one extra mana.
Cobalt Guardian is a significantly worse card. Not having Divine Shield right away means that it just dies unless you combo it with a Mech immediately, and Mechs were a much harsher condition than healing. Paladin has lots of good healing cards, and had only two good Mechs (2x Shielded Minibot).
You tunnel vision on an irrelevant part of the card. This is a 4mana 4/3 divine shield, strong enough to see some constructed play. It doesn’t have to regain divine shield in order to be good.
Just like people who say Darius is bad because it won’t live long enough to get +2+2 buffs. Darius doesn’t have to survive a turn in order to be good.
Now it might not fit in aggro paladin, because CTA is OP and BoK is probably a little stronger and we probably don’t want more than 4 4drops.
And it certainly fits in a more midrange paladin but aggro paladin might just be the stronger deck. So yeah it migt not be played in the best constructed lists. Still it’s a good card, unlike cobalt guardian that is complete trash: 5mana 6/3 lul.
I like the flavour that paladin got in this expansion. Maybe with a little more support we’ll see an Even Divine Shield deck.
Flavour like ties in with the story of witchwood flavour? Or just quirky flavour?
I meant the Church/Cathedral theming that all the new paladin cards share. I think it’s pretty cool
Oh yeah, it does have that “Stained Glass” themed now that you’ve mentioned it. Maybe they will give Paladin a Echo heal card, or something along the lines of heal target minion for X amount and heal your hero for the same.
no good restore health cards for play
Benevolent Djinn into Glass Knight could be a great combo in midrange pally, plus Truesilver is a staple card that can trigger this
I think so far with these healing decks only one of two things happens, opponent aggro you down and your heal can’t keep up, because when you’re busy healing, they are building their board. Or you’re so far ahead you’re at full health.
Tried throwing in a bunch of weapons just to take damage so I can trigger off Ragnaros lightlord + Benevolent Djinn + Blackguard. Not too excited about this.
love the art, cool effects, about what you would expect stat wise with a little bonus. Seems like a nice addition to some midrange decks since it requires healing. This plus true silver is pretty good.
Glass is fragile so huge design mistake because it has sustain with his shields ^^
