Steel Rager Card Review

I really enjoy seeing more Ragers, but the flavor is slightly ruined – it costs 4 and not 3. Honestly, it might have been too good at 3 mana, and ragers always have 5 in their stat-line, so if it was 3 mana, it would probably need to be a 4/1 or something…

Still, it’s probably the best Rager we had so far…. buuut it’s still bad. Just compare it to Swift Messenger, a card that notably sees zero Constructed play. Messenger is either a 2/6 or a 6/2 with Rush, both are generally better than this one. 6/2 is just straight up an upgrade, and 2/6 is often a better stat-line to trade into early game minions.

It has a Mech tag, but I don’t believe that it will matter. It’s hard to Magnetize something onto it, because it will never stick – you always want to run him into something right away, or else it dies to a ping. Since it has Rush, you can Magnetize something onto it in the late game immediately, but given it’s low health, it’s not the best play anyway – it will probably die when trading into a bigger minion anyway.

So yeah, best of the Ragers, but still a bad card. So at least that flavor is kept intact.

Card rating: 2/10

Love the flavor. However, for it to be fair, it should have Charge instead of Rush. Remember how Magma Rager became a great card in the Dungeon Run when the Kobold Pirate gave it Charge and it Smorced you? Now I do understand having a Mech with Charge would open the gate to OTKs with Magnetize, and that it should have Rush. Well then leave it at 3 mana, like all other Ragers. It would be a good card, for a change.

It does fit pretty well with the druid quest deck. It synergizes with the cards which summon a minion that costs 4 or less, and you don’t feel too bad playing this from hand as removal in the early part of the game, while adding to your quest completion.

Good Arena card. Some of the magnetic dudes have high hp and low attack too but outside of that I doubt its versatility as minion+removal since there are too many small minions and too many pings played in current lists.

However I do love the flavour.

Mech Rager, rush seems pretty alright.

I don’t get the low rating either. Consider this a removal spell in a Prince/Summoner deck that has to limit its spells, also has a relevant tag.

No idea, maybe people are assuming it’s bad because of magma rager? This is nearly an unnerfed Leeroy..

leeroy is good because he can charge the opponent’s face and finish them off. steel rager only can rush. even lava burst is sometimes better

Why the hate? It’s basically a neutral fireball for control decks, but with a potentially relevant tag.

For every new expansion that comes out, Magma Rager sheds a tear
