"You're a Sagittarius? Me too! Just gimme a sec."Star Aligner Card Review
If all stars align, this card might actually be powerful. Which is basically the entire concept of this card. It’s a joke card, a pack filler that was made more interesting by the design team than just another variation of vanilla stats on a minion with no effect. It’s will work just as well as another 8 mana 5/11 or 4 mana 7/2, but unlike those, it will actually be interesting. And some folks will do everything to try and make it work just for the sake of it. Which is fun!
If you haven’t realized that yet, I hate to break it to you, but this card just sucks. 99% of the time it’s a War Golem, and it will work roughly 1% of the time. If you needed to have 3 minions with 7 OR MORE health, then it might make a tiny bit of sense. But it’s exactly 7. You basically need to build your entire deck around its effect, and then it’s still incredibly hard to stick THREE of those minions onto the board at the same time. Is it possible? Yes. Is it viable? No.
Not to mention that 7 health minions usually have a solid amount of attack too. If you have three of those on the board, the chances are that you’re winning the game anyway and you don’t really need to deal 7 to all enemies. So not only it’s incredibly hard to pull off, but it’s also a win more card on top of that.
Still, I’m looking forward to seeing people experiment with this card. When it finally works, it will surely feel great.
Card rating: 7/10*
this card made wild unplayable
I opened 3 of these. I guess the stars have aligned?
Just combo Shudderwock + Saronite/Doppelganger/Echoing Ooze + Boisterous Bard for easy board clear when you need it most.
Finally! My time to shine!
A shame you can’t be played on the same turn, unlike me! I will make stars align with only 1 seven health minion already on board.
So I missed the part where Blizzard printed good cards with 7 or more health from 4 5 6 mana. They dont exist right now. With that said I been waiting for my damn QUEST DRUID TO GET GOOD AND THEY CANT EVEN DO THAT. ONLY ROGUE AND MAGE GOT LOVE AND MAGE WAS HIGHROLLL NONSENSE AND ROGUE WASENT EVEN FUN DIDNT EVEN MAKE SENSE PLAY OF A BUNCH OF HOT TRASH TURNS EVERYTHING INTO 5 5 MAKES NO SENSE. BEEN WAITING FOR OVER 3-4 EXPANSIONS NOW FOR THESE OTHER QUESTS TO GET GOOD LMAO I FEEL LIKE A FOOL LMAO WASTING DUST AND GOLD CRAFTING SOMETHING THATS COMPLETE USELESS IN HOPE OF THE GAME BEING FUN LMAO ITS STILL UNPLAYABLE NO RESPECT FOR HUNTER QUEST LMAO SHAMAN QUEST? DRUID QUEST? QUEST WARLOCK? PALADIN QUEST? PRIEST QUEST MIGHT FINALLY BE GETTING LOVE WITH THESE DEATHRATTLES. THESE ARENT THE ONLY LEGENDARYS / CARDS TO BE PRINTED AND THEN THE DECK ITSELF IS NEVER COMPLETED. NEVER EVEN A THOUGHT, NEVER EVEN A CARE TO COMPLETE THE SPECIFIC DECK LMAO
Quest Druid, now this is a real man.
All I want to do is play Quest druid to legend. Im just not worthy.
Your lucky there are checkpoints at 5 10 15 and 20 now, playing quest druid find yourself at rank 20 real fast kid.
So there is actually a real deck that can support this battlecry: cubelock.
When skull pulls a doomguard, you play a doomsayer, star aligner, and sacrifice the doomsayer, for 7aoe, 12face dmg, 12/14 stats and 4 healing.
Or when cube breaks into 2 doomguards, play star aligner for 7aoe, 17face dmg and 17/21 stats.
Minor point: Star Aligner will most likely not count as one of the three minions, since the battlecry triggers as it is played from hand. Still, I think cubelock could definitely support Star Aligner, and while sacrificing the Doomsayer is a bit of a waste, it’s not too likely to trigger in your advantage that late in the game and Star Aligner can sweep the board instead.
I’m pretty sure fight promoter triggers off itself if you hand buffed it by +2.
Unless the mechanic changed recently.
Ah, that makes it much easier to trigger if so. I’m not aware of any changes, but then I’ve never encountered that mechanic instance either. Other battlecries like rockpool tidehunter can’t target the minion doing the battlecry, and the wording of the mechanic description seems to imply battlecries occur before the minion enters play, but fungal enchanter does show the restore health animation on itself even though the effect is a battlecry. If it really does require only having two seven-health minions in play already, it should be evaluated much more highly because that’s really not that difficult. It probably should be anyway because while three is tricky, it is realistically doable in a lot of games.
Hello, everyone. First post here, and hopefully expecting a positive community welcoming, but now that’s said I’ll get into discussing the card.
Alright, everyone is definitely underestimating this. With the battlecry going off, it is a very powerful sweeper that comes with an on-curve body. It’s doubtful it will be played on curve, since it’s clearly a combo card, but coming with a body appropriate to the mana cost in addition to sweeping your opponent’s board makes it a very strong card. People have pulled off a lot more difficult combos (the Malygos combos being toted over in Flobbidinous Floop discussion come to mind), and cubelock could pull this off without too much alteration. At ten mana, you can play Skull of the Manari first turn of set-up, pull a Doomguard on the second turn then cube the doomguard and Faceless Manipulator the cube for redundancy, and pull a second doomguard on the third turn, break the cube, and voila: The stars have Aligned, and you have all the mana you need to play Star Aligner and wipe your opponent’s board. Sure, it’s a 6-card combo (seven if you have to break the cube with dark pact), but the only parts I think will really be necessary are carnivorous cube and Faceless Manipulator to ensure you can pull it off.
The dream combo would be to Spiritsinger Umbra turn four, Skull of the Manari turn five, pull a doomguard and cube it then sanguine reveler the cube turn six, and Star Aligner turn seven after trading with one doomguard, but that’s a lot more disruptable, would be serious overkill unless your opponent is doing practically the same thing, and I’ve never seen cubelock go off that early anyway. Still, I would never underestimate the potential of a card like this.
OK now there is a hunter combo for it.
T9: play Mechanical Whelp (2/2 deathrattle summon a 7/7 mechanical Dragon)
T10:
1) Fireworks tech on the Mechanical whelp (+1/+1 and activate DR) (2 mana)
2) Play dead on Mechanical Whelp (1 mana)
3) Hit something with 3 or more attack with the whelp to kill it (or coin + 2nd play dead)
4) Play Star Aligner
It’s very easy to counter (if your enemy kills, silence or transform the whelp between your T9 and T10 there goes your combo)
But is playable.
You only need 2 other 7-health minions to activate Star Aligner. Considering people might be hesitant to kill the Whelp if they don’t have the means to kill the 7/7, it might work, but it’s weak against silence/poly/etc…
I think this card is not maybe better golem 7 mana 7/7 of basic card and his skill same free skill
If this card was a 3 mana 3/3 with “Battlecry: If you control 3 minions with 3 Health, deal 3 damage to all enemies.” then it would actually see play. But as it stands, it will see 0 play. I wouldn’t even pick this in arena, there are much much better late game drops than a 7 mana 7/7.
I feel like people are missing the easy combo of playing a doomguard and cubing it. Next turn you kill the cube somehow and play star aligner. Yes, it can be played around pretty easily, but running a single copy could take an opponent by surprise, since no one would expect a 7 damage nuke from a warlock that didn’t ALSO nuke his own board (i.e. defile, twisting, godfrey, etc). Plus after an epic nuke, you have two doomguards waiting to attack face.
Also, somewhere along the line in the game, you can end up with a healthy voidlord plus doomguard. Run the voidlord into a two attack minion and play star aligner.
Is it great? Probably not. Especially with how valuable card slots are in cubelock. But I could see it working in fringe cases.
It’s a thought at least. I list this mainly as the one type of match that isn’t automatically won if you have 2 7 health minions out already. And that runs 7+ health minions regularly with the chance of aligning two of them to be exactly 7 sometime.
Maybe i’m wrong but i don’t think star aligner count as one of the three minions with 7HP, so even if you kill a cube with a doomguard inside, you would still need one more 7HP minion to be able to activate star aligner.. so, unless you already have a 7hp minion on board along with the cube, the only way i imagine you could do it would be:
T10:
1) Attack with cube (4 dmg)
2) Dark pact (-1 mana) on the cube.
3) Attack with both doomguards (10 dmg)
5) Doomsayer (-2 mana)
6) Star aligner (-7 mana 7 dmg all enemies)
7a) End turn and lose all minions at the start of next turn.
7b) Coin (+1 mana) + dark pact on doomsayer (-1 mana) to save your minions.
Maybe a good DK follow up? Drop old Guldy and play only doomguards for his effect.
You only need 2 other 7-health minions, as Star Aligner counts itself.
Requires a huge build-around for probably not enough payoff. Only scenario I can possibly imagine this in is a Big Druid with the quest; you could conceivably either run it in the Devilsaur/Cube deck or as an archetype by itself with bounce effects. Will that be good? Eh…probably not. But not absolutely.
Fitting theme for this card, since you’ll need the stars to align in order to get its effect to work.
The chance of this trigger going on is probably equal as the chance I get with my Bae right now…
SO BLIZZARD WHERE ARE THE 4 5 6 DROPS IN HEARTHSTONE GAME THAT HAVE 7 HEALTH OR MORE THAT ARE ACTUALLY PLAYABLE IN PRO TURNI STYLE DECKS… NONE LUL. DUST.
EVEN IF THEY DO CREATE A GOOD CARD OR TWO ITL GET SAP’D AND ZAP’D HOW WILL WE EVER HAVE 3 CARDS WITH 7 OR MORE HEALTH ON THE BOARD? LMAO
Umm…Jungle Giants.
It’s not supposed to be good, they always put in weird meme cards
The four cost 1/7 that no one ever ever runs
Perfect for the Obsessive compulsive in all of us.
Aviana Kun Brann Kraken Kraken Aligner Aligner OTK
That is hilarious, someone will obviously do this to get the YouTube spotlight, but it’s obviously worse than the standard Maly combo.
Also, only the first Aligner will go off. The second one will find four 7-health minions, so it won’t trigger off.
Naturalize one 7/7. Even more stars need to align XD
Notably, it’s possible to pull off in a single turn with Druid (assuming that it itself counts as a minion with 7 health, which according to Famous Jake, it does. still not certain though).
Doomsayer (2 Mana) + Doomsayer (2 Mana) + Ironbeak Owl on Doomsayer (3 Mana) + Ironbeak Owl on Doomsayer 2 (3 Mana) + Twig Breaks (+10 Mana) + Star Aligner (7 Mana) = Profit (?)
Alternatively, Priest can work too, requiring much less board space, but it needs a cost reduction on one or more of the cards (or the Coin).
Doomsayer (2 Mana) + Silence Doomsayer (0 Mana) + Doomsayer (2 Mana) + Silence Doomsayer (0 Mana) + Coin (+1 Mana) + Star Aligner (7 Mana) = Profit (?)
Not saying the card is good. Just saying it’s possible to proc in one turn (if itself counts as a 7-Health minion. If not, you can still do this with Druid:
Doomsayer (2 Mana) + Doomsayer (2 Mana) + Ironbeak Owl on Doomsayer (3 Mana) + Ironbeak Owl on Doomsayer 2 (3 Mana) + Twig Breaks (+10 Mana) + Crypt Lord (3 Mana) + Wisp/Snowflipper Penguin (0 Mana) + Star Aligner (7 Mana) = Profit (?)
What about Mogu’shan Warden, it is cheaper than Doomsayer & Ironbeak Owl , as it is only 4 mana, compared to 5, making it far superior and placing Mogu’shan Warden in the meta without a doubt.
Why yes Mogu’shan Warden Connesiour, how correct you are. However, one has come up with a stupendous idea, if one uses Innervate, one can play Crypt Lord before playing both amazing Mogu’shan Wardens ensuring that the Crypt Lord has 7 HP allowing oneself to have 3 spare mana crystals when triggering The Twig Of The World Tree’s deathrattle.
How happy I am to witness members of the Hearthstone community discovering the true wonders of Innervate. For 0ana crystals you can gain 3 mana crystals, how amazing!
Umm guys notice it says if u have 3 minions with 3 health it doesn’t say with 7 or more that means u have to have 3 minions with exactly 7 health for this to do anything
I definitely thought this was a custom card. Does it not feel like it? I know we haven’t seen the rest of the set but I can only see this in an overload shaman after you’ve copied one of your huge guys, but at that point the game is done anyways.
Wow this card is some exciting pack filler. Ill take this over a textless vannilla stated minion anyday. I really hope i dont open this as one of my epics thou, but i probably will like SEVEN times
There will probably be other 7 health minions printed this expansion just to try and give this card a purpose… but I’m just not seeing it working in Standard Constructed at all.
There’s a very, very slim chance you could drop one into a Wild Taunt Warrior deck with Public Defender, Alley Armoursmith and Obsidian Destroyer … maybe. You might pull it off one game in like a hundred.
battlecry:deal seven damage to all enemy minions
(warning:this might work once a blue moon so don’t even think aboat it)
Let’s be honest. This card is just here so that the Dr 7 meme lives on (it’s Dr 7’s expansion, after all). Also slightly improves the pool of 7-mana cost minions. I just dislike that this card is Epic, many people will open this instead of other Epics, and that’s horrible. 0.5/5 stars.
I think it’s more of a wink to (validated) Doomsayer since they all have 7 health and care about prophecies (its also a blond bloodelf, but has a beard)
Hadn’t thought about it! I really miss Validated Doomsayer in Arena, it was a high risk, high reward card. “I was right all along… Mwahahahahaaaa” It was so cheesy!
I think everyone is agreed that this card is terrible. So surely they’ll be introducing some other supporting cards to make this not quite to terrible…?
oh … tnx god.
there was many games that i had 3 seven hp minions on board and i was 7 off-lethal, now i can win all of them 😀
This card screams quest Druid or taunt Druid to me. Possibly in hand lock too since u have drakes and giants and 3/9’s
They need to have exactly 7 health, no more no less. This card is just bad.
cool but almost impossible to pull off
OK. if this minion counts as 3rd minion with 7 hp then you can have otk deck. I need to try that.. Mybe it wont be consistant but it will be fun for sure. Same as warlock OTK with 96 dmg hero power.
No it doesn’t, you need to have 3 other minions with 7 hp and then play this card, because the battlecry triggers before the minion enters the board!
It’s pack fodder, but quite creative. I like the concept even though it will probably not see any play
wouldn’t this be good in taunt druid?
My initial thought is play Charged Devilsaur then cube/play dead it so you got three now. Question is what if one of them is damaged? Will this card still activate?
This card isn’t that bad… Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely not good, but seriously, it’s war golem with a plus side. War golem is NOT a good card, but it’s not horrible either. Of course this won’t see competitive play unless there’s some new synergy card, but it’s honestly just a bad card, not an absolute piece of crap.
Priest is the only class in standard to want to play this card – if any.
Battlecry: If you are winning the game, win the game
This.
I so like your post :D.
This card may not see the light of day in competitive play, but I am down to see the Trolden clips 🙂
I mean, it’s decent in arena if you get a perfect 5-6-7 of Nesting Roc, Boulderfist Ogre, Star Aligner, in priest with circle of healing. It is also god-awful in everything else. Sad “complicated” epic is sad.
Calling it now, this card is in this set ONLY so you can use it in some of the solo-puzzles.
I was thinking the same thing… this card only exists for the Puzzle Lab challenges.
This is probably the worst card I have ever seen. Even if you could build your deck around this card, seven mana is impossible to set up with this scenario unless you refresh mana or get another turn.
And the effect is good, but is it good enough to create an entire deck around it? Hell no.
The only deck that *could* *maybe* *possibly* play this is shudderwock shaman. If you’re left with three 7/7 shudders (with keleseth) you could add this to your battle cry pool. But at that point you’ve already won the game so it’s just overkill.
I think Millhouse Manastorm, Lorewalker Cho, and Ticking Abomination are worse since even in this card’s worst case, it’s still a 7/7 for 7 far from getting double pyroblated in the face, being unable to really play spells, or an AOE removal spell you play on yourself.
Lorewalker Cho is an outstanding card in Mill archetypes. Seriously, that card needs to drop the meme status already.
It’s not going to, and outside of that particular niche deck archetype, even assuming it is good there, it has no applications anywhere else.
Even when Mill Kingsbane Rogue was pretty popular on ladder, I never say it be played against me once. Given how most of the spells in that deck were next to worthless for anyone else Weapon Buffs that would clog up hands and continue to buff Kingsbane when played, that application of Cho was not really good enough to be seen consistently.
Lorewalker Cho was interesting in Kingsbane, but it is in its best state ever right now in Mill Druid. It offers a backup plan if Twig gets destroyed before you pull the combo (Cho + Innervate + Innervate + Naturalize + Naturalize + Toggwaggle will change decks and burn the spell as long as the opponent has at least 2 cards in hand. If the Twig doesn’t get destroyed and you pull the combo, you can Toggwaggle + Cho, break Twig, Naturalize, Naturalize, Azalina and you get two extra Naturalizes with which to finish off your opponent due to fatigue. Seriously, you should watch some of Stancifka’s videos, Cho is a key card in that deck, and that’s much more than other legendaries which are not meme and have never been featured in any deck (I’m looking at you, Swamp King Dred).
I was using hyperbole, but yes you’re right. I would actually put Ticking abomination as the worst card ever. Millhouse was supposed to counter a minion only deck which really never happened while Cho does have a few mill deck applications.
Only deck that could? I see it quite easy to pull it with quest druid
Please elaborate.
I still think overload shaman can use this but it would be overkill. I’ve made boards of 4 8/8s or 7/8s that all have ancestral spirit so they stick for a turn. Once you’ve created that board there’s not much besides vanish and scream that deals with it so adding in the 7 to everything would be over the top. Maybe to get passed some big taunts? I don’t know, if I open this I’m not dusting it, I’ll wait for the stars to align. Plus, the FLAVOUR of it, Dr. Boom or Dr. 7 having a 7 mana 7/7 that needs the perfect scenario of 7s to deal 7 damage to all your enemies, is no one else loving that?!
What about Kathrena Hunter? you can cheat out Charged Devilsaurs and if they survive you can Carnivorous Cube it then next turn Play Dead into Star Aligner sounds like fun to me
If the strategy revolves around “ifs” and “next turn” then it’s not good enough to include in the deck.
All your opponent has to do is trade once to disable the synergy.
I know its not good hence my last words “Sounds like fun to me”
Too bad you guys put out that shit card priest has psycho scream. gg
lmao
can’t help but feel this may just have been a filler card. this could have a chance of play in big druid with all the drakkari enchanter, oakheart and dragonhatcher. however, in that kind of situation the chance to win a game is already a possibility which may make this card just a dead card to part of the deck.
Does this mean 3 minione with exactly 7 health each or at least 7 health each or just 7 health between the 3? Its pretty vague
Three minions that have exactly seven health each. It’s not that vague since if the designers intended otherwise, it would say as much. Plus that third option can be disregarded immediately given Star Aligner itself has seven health.
The effect is to hard to trigger and your opponent will most likely dont have any minions if you have 3 with 7 or more health.
It’s even harder when you consider they have to have exactly 7 health.
WHAT i didn’t even notice that. This is impossible to complete. This card could deal 30 damage instead and it wouldnt work.
Step 1: Play keleseth.
step 2: Play double saronite.
step 3: play this card.
step 4: MY JAWS THAT BITE, MY CLAWS THAT CATCH.
Step 5: Have some luck.
step 6: Concede.
Keleseth won’t buff hand or board though.
It looks really good but the chances of getting the effect to trigger is pretty low. This might in some control decks.
20/5 in big ez dragon druid
0/5 in literally every other scenario
The minions have to have exactly 7 health seeing as it doesn’t say 7 or more health.
Oh man I didn’t even see that! I thought it said 7 or more health. Well this card is completely useless then without some serious comboing.
I could see this working in possibly taunt druid to help control the board and this could possibly have an effect every once in a while in recruit hunter but its unlikely the stars align properly. seeing as this does damage to the enemy hero if you do manage to make it work then it is definitely a game changer, and a huge tempo shift but hard to pull off in most decks, 3/5
Most likely you will win next turn if you manage to have 3 7attack minions on board… how epic is this?
7 Health*
The stars do have to align for this to really be playable.
The only deck I could see this working in would be a Divine Spirit-Inner Fire Priest that plays Injured Blademasters, Circle of Healing, and other. This is definitely a Johnny card if you’re familiar with that term for Magic the Gathering and one of the few cards like Astral Communion and Cataclysm that truly are Epic.
It’s…interesting. I have a kinda hard time figuring out what to think about this card. I hope it surprises me, but I think that 3 minions with 7 health is kinda hard. Maybe a ramp Druid or something but this would just kill them so I don’t know why u would want to kill them, but I hope someone proves me wrong and makes a deck out of it
You wouldn’t want to kill them, that’s why this card doesn’t.
Very good. Just need to stick some minions down. Could maybe be possibly put into something like a token druid
“Very good.”
You’re new here, aren’t you?
