Spring Rocket Card Review

Mecha’thun, Mecha’thun, MECHA’THUN! Of course, it’s a new version of Disciple of C'Thun. Same stats, same effect. But instead of buffing C’Thun, this one has a Mech tag. Honestly, Disciple of C’Thun has seen play mostly BECAUSE it buffed C’Thun. It was only okay by itself, and okay cards generally don’t make cut.

Like, you could somewhat compare it to Kobold Apprentice. Both are 3 mana 2/1’s that cast a 1 mana spell (Arcane Missiles vs Arcane Shot), and Kobold Apprentice doesn’t really see play. This has a slight advantage of having a Mech tag, but honestly, it’s not that big. It’s not like it’s a body that will stick to the board, it will die the moment you drop it most of the time, so Magnetize shenanigans will be difficult. It can theoretically be discounted by Galvanizer, and that’s probably it.

It’s an okay card, and it might see some play, especially if meta will demand early game 2 mana removals. If everyone will play 3+ health minions, though, it doesn’t make much sense. Average card, but average cards can also see some play if the time is right.

Card rating: 5/10

Good arena card. A solid card for budget tempo decks.

Why even print this? It’s objectively a worse Disciple of C’thun, which saw zero play outside of SOME C’thun decks. Same stats, same effect, no C’thun buffing upside.

They could have easily made this a 3/1 without making it overpowered (by a long shot), and at least that MIGHT see play in SOME face decks.

Disciple of C’thun was probably the best neutral C’thun buffing card generally since it did something other than just buffing C’thun and it saw extremely consistent play in C’Thun Warrior, which was great for control styled decks.
It was often said during that time if Disciple of C’thun had nothing to do with C’thun, it might still see play and the same went for the 4/2 with Divine Shield. Now we can see if that’s true and it probably will be.

I think it’s an okay card. I think that the best minions are those who create value from the moment you play them. A minion that creates tempo is always good in my eyes. It has very poor stats, yes, but that is because it’s battlecry is really good AND it has Mech synergies (which, if I am not wrong, are even better supported than elemental synergies if we look at the wild card pool. Maybe this will also be true for standard with that dr.boom hero)
        This is my opinion

No one EVER said that, and it DIDN’T see play in any deck outside of C’thun decks so even if they had said it, they would’ve been wrong. C’thun has been in standard for two years, there were plenty of non-C’thun decks you could have put it into and no one did. Why are you behaving like this is some new situation? We already know it doesn’t make the cut just on the stats and battlecry value alone.

It saw play in C’thun Warrior because it’s a C’thun buffing card. That’s all.

Say what you will about Trump, but he is a big enough voice in the community to at least have some credit and he is the first person I can think of who said such a thing (https://youtu.be/KOaJqtOJkU8?t=1h19m26s).

There is a difference between saying a card could be good enough to see play and it not and saying a card being definitely good enough to see play and it not. It probably won’t be good enough, but if anything the Mech tag just might take it over the edge into barely playable.

You do realize they can’t make every card in the set be good, right?

They can make it… playable… though? This is literally reprint of an old card that saw zero play outside of C’thun decks, but this one can’t even be put into C’thun decks, so why in the world would it see any play now? People that think it being a mech is relevant are naive, this has terrible stats for it’s cost so it’s not good magnetize cads, and it doesn’t add anything beneficial to the minion you’re magnetizing aside for the awful 2/1 stats.

Again, why not make this at least a 3/1 or a 2/2? It would still be bad stats, but at least someone might try to fit it in a deck.

Not every card can be good, but every card should at least be playable.

It’s not objectively worse than Disciple, it has a Mech tag. You can discount it with Galvanizer/Mechwarper, stick Magnetize minions into it etc.

It doesn’t suddenly make him amazing, but it’s clearly not “objectively worse”.

I stand by my words, are you really going to put this into your deck just so you can magnetize something onto it? When all that does is add 2/1 stats onto it for 3 mana? Would you play a 3 mana 2/1 buff?

It’s objectively worse and will see zero play.

I’m not saying that it’s good or that it will see play, that is another story (I don’t think it will see any play, to be honest).

It’s just not what “objectively worse” means. One has C’Thun synergy, other has Mech synergy – they’re different, neither is objectively worse than the other.

I think this will see play in Mech decks. It will be able to trade 2 for 1 sometimes, and be a solid 1 for 1 most times. Seems like one of those cards that is underwhelming to see but then ends up getting played a lot.

Won’t see any play, stats and effect are both weak.

    1/5

Mech tag doesn’t save this card

The exact same as Disciple of C’Thun, which was a staple of C’Thun decks but not quite good enough to put anywhere else. This has the Mech tag, though, which might actually be pretty relevant. We’ll see, I’m frankly not sold on the whole Mech thing working out.
