Snap Freeze Card Review

Shatter power creep! But to be honest, even if you power creep it, Shatter was one of the worst cards in the entire game, so even an upgraded version still looks bad. This is what Shatter should have been in the first place, to be honest.

But even after a lift, the card still looks unplayable. We’ve already established that destroying a frozen minion for 2 mana is terrible. How about Freezing it for 2 mana? Well, Freezing Potion was a card and it has never seen play (outside of the random effects), even though it costs 0. Not to mention that Ice Lance was also a thing (I wanted to say “is”, then I’ve remembered that it was HoF’d a year ago), and it has only seen play for its burst potential.

The only good thing that can be said about it is that when you get it out of a random effect, it’s not a completely dead card, like Shatter often was. You can still use it as an overpriced Freezing Potion if you have no way to combo it. Bad card, but not as mind-blowingly bad as Shatter.

Card rating: 1/10

on this site, Shatter has like 3.5 stars and this card has 2.5???
For the record, this card was quite a disappointment for Mages when The Witchwood came out but at least you have the flexibility that Shatter didn’t so it’s less of a dead card. But yeah, if they wanted to make a card to upgrade/replace Shatter (which was rotating out) they could’ve done a better job. Would this be playable if it cost 1 mana? What about 0?

As i see it – this card’s biggest drawback (pun intended) is it slows down your deck massively. If you can run it in a freezemage-deck where you draw Aluneth first this might be a great card.

It’s a better version of Shatter, but I’m unsure if the added flexibility will be enough to even play along side Frostbolt.

Actually, I am sure it won’t see play at all outside of arena maybe.

Sooo…they saw how horrible Shatter is, realized they screwed up, gave it another spin and…it’s still horrible.

Honestly, my theory is that this is a Basic Set contender. The team was talking about how Shatter was a potential contender to go into Mage’s core cards, but they may be choosing this instead just to give them something slightly less crappy.

Great for random spell generation, shatter could be totally dead card in your hand, this one at least will boost wyrm, auctioner or the like, or even be discarded

How is this 2.7 stars? It’s shatter with an added effect of freezing a single minion. At worst it’s a 2 mana freezing potion. At best it’s shatter.

Yes, I meant Ice Lance. Sorry. 🙂

This tries very hard to be Shatter, but fails miserably. Sure, it can remove a big threat that Shatter couldn’t otherwise remove. But Shatter could go face (great in Burn Mage) and it also cost 1-mana, and 90% of the time it would remove a minion in the same way that this would. So no, another mediocre spell to dilute Mage’s pool of spells. 1.5/5 stars.
