With the spell damage cards coming out really interested in seeing how this plays in tempo style.
People commented that Stargazer Luna is not good because there aren’t good 1 drops on mage… Now there is one more good option.
Incoming odd mage.
If Stargazer Luna-powered miracle mage is a thing, this would slot into it. Otherwise it’s just a disappointing option to show up in Primordial Glyph.
Better than it looks. Cheaper than arcane explosion. Fantastic with sorcerer’s apprentice. Also amazing with the new spell damage 4 drop. I think tempo mage will use it.
With cosmic anomaly this turns into deal 3 damage to 3 minions aka deal 9 damage for 1 mana. So this card is not dependent on archtypes like odd paladin
As long as Token decks like Odd Paladin stick around and don’t drastically change their game plans, this could see play. It is one mana deal more or less targeted three damage, but the similar cards Hunter has gotten like Grievous Bite and Explosive Shot haven’t really been good enough to see play in that class. Additionally, I am unsure if the class exclusive Spell Damage cards Mage is getting are also good enough to be able to make this any better.
I would wait and see on this one.
Mage has a lot more spell synergy than hunter though. Cheap spells are great with Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Mana Wyrm, Arch Mage Antonidas etc. and there is definitely a Mage spell damage theme in this expansion which really scales well with this and other cheap AOE’s. Plus Hunter is usually too aggressive to want to invest in AOE. That’s more for Control or tempo decks which suit Mage more.
I reckon this will rejuvenate my Flamewaker fireworks deck in Wild too 🙂
Cheap spells are good with those cards you’ve mentioned, but I don’t really see it with this card for a Tempo deck just because the damage can’t hit the enemy hero like all other damage spells Tempo Mage typically plays. Sure Arcane Missiles and Cinderstorm are played to take care of Silver Hand Recruits summoned by Odd Paladin, but the damage still can damage heroes when played on an empty or at least near empty board.
Right now Tempo Mages plays spells that can reduced the health of the enemy Hero or cheaply generate cards with Counterspell acting as the lone exception to those two categories. I don’t really see the archetype playing more value oriented cards when it’s primary weakness is that it almost autoloses to decks that are faster than it.
Very meta dependent – as long as Odd Paladin is a thing this might see play.
… but then again, it’s cheaper/faster than your hero power for early removal and cheap enough to combo with SDI minions – so it’s more reliable, and scales better, for minion removal than Arcane Missiles…. but nobody uses Arcane Missiles for minion removal.
With the new Cosmic Anomaly (SDI +2) you’ve got a potential T5 answer to Emerald Spellstone in a more Elemental focused Mage deck (where you’d not want to run Dragon’s Fury) I guess.

This is generally much better than Arcane Explosion. Sure, you miss other minions if there’s more than 3 of them, but I’d rather pay 1 less mana for the 90% of the situations where the opponent has 3 or less minions on board. Much easier to combo with the Spell Damage minions Mage is getting this expansion. Another slight disadvantage is that the opponent can play around this by putting a Stealthed or Can’t be targeted by spells or Hero Powers minion in the middle. But in general, I do believe the 1 less mana is much better over the whole AOE by Arcane Explosion. I’d only want Arcane Explosion pver this if I’m facing a ton of Odd Paladins, and that’s a horrible matchup for Aluneth Aggro Mage anyway. Rating this 3.5/5 stars.

True, hadn’t thought about it! Mana Wyrm on 1 + Apprentice on 2 + This vs Odd Paladin might make it good enough to rush him down before he regains board control and swings the game with a Fungalmancer or Level Up. It definitely has a lot of portential.

This is just a worse version of arcane explosion. Simple as that.
Oh wait I hadn’t seen it only costs 1 mana. In that case, its probably only as good as arcane explosion, maybe a tiny little bit better.

It’s powershot but bad.
It’s Arcane Explosion but good.
It’s a crap card but for real.
Hunter isn’t getting a lot of Spell Damage tools this expansion, unlike Mage. You can’t compare this to Powershot sheerly because of the class it’s in.
