Worst of the Quests ,nearly unplayable.
Very very happy to see an OTK in standard after so so long, but this won’t be viable practically, oh well another great thing about hearthstone that is lost forever.
Waiting for a long time for priest to be viable so i can finally get my golden potrait. I guess i have to wait more
Thank God the rhythm of the game and the powercreep won’t allow this card to be played much outside of memes. This card would be relevant maybe 3 years ago. Now I just don’t see it. Expect to see it first weeks and that’s it. It’s too slow, you “pay” 1 card at the start of every game to play the quest and also don’t forget how counterproductive can be discovering two more cards in some scenarios considering how much draw/value generation reno Priest already has. It’s no that good sometimes.
I might seem overly pessimistic (and I still like Quests (Lines) – new and – old – very much) but I honestly believe that all the Quest Lines will be way to slow to be viable in ‘competitive’ HS play.
I hope you’re not right. I started Hearthstone just as the Frost King cards were rotating out of Standard. In the beginning I was under the impression that all these cool hero cards, Old Gods or some form of control decks are part of Hearthstone. But for a while now, the meta has only been controlled by Tempo decks. Was it different in the past or has Hearthstone always been like that? I have no problem with 1-2 tempo decks, but I’m more of a fan of decks like Highlander Mage / Druid. It’s not like I can’t play tempo either. I also became Legend again this month with Miracle Rogue. But its not fun for me.
Well, the way Hearthstone is designed favors Aggro and Combo decks. There where times when control or midrange decks were on top of the meta, but those times are rare. 😉
2 thing with this card
Really wish it was: put the shard at the bottom of your deck
So your opponent know when it’s game over,
You will need to build your deck like a combo deck, not a heavy control deck that no aggro can win
& the card does not have a spell-school, if it mean anything for benedictus
I see 1 of 2 things happening with this card, depending on how the meta will look after the expansion hits:
1. Priest can get into the late game most if not all games and priest will win almost every single game. We end up with mirrors closer to a coin toss than hearthstone.
2. Priest doesn’t get to the late game often enough. Priest ends up only being a barrier to entry for
all other control decks in the game as they will have close to no chance against priest now. Warlock can hope to get lucky with their mills.
I don’t really like either option to be honest. I want the game to have more control options. Not 1 that might not even be good at anything but pissing off control.
This is the outcome that will happen though. It’ll be in the same boat as pre-nerf priest or even something like Tickatus Warlock. The decks are absolutely awful WR wise overall, but remove any possible viability of another control or combo deck from existing because the match ups are so one-sided.
The most likely scenario actually is that Priest exists, isn’t too strong and doesn’t even run this card. It’s extremely slow, pretty inconsistent and unlikely to make it into a competitive deck.
Love it. Seems cool. What’s the win condition?
This card is the win condition!
I was memeing haha. If you’ve ever watched any streamer on twitch, there is always someone who asks what the win con is.
Oooh, lol
I agree, this card is cool.
Analysis time:
– I believe druid can easily counter the quest with Celestial Alignment. They don’t even have to play it, just hold it until they face Quest Priest.
– Warlock have a chance to discard the final card, either with Ticky or Altar of Fire.
– Polkelt and and Protector can pull the card from the deck, assuming Priest live long enough to cast 2-cost card thru 8-cost without dying to aggro.
– Once again, Control Priest will have a foothold for the next ~2 years.
– Somehow, I think someone would find a way to abuse this card in Wild. And then we’ll either get a nerf at some point, or another ban.
And I even forgot cards like Counterspell and Oh My Yogg! exist.
Priest need to play it with full mana, so the chance of cancelling the spell is even greater.
Cant exactly abuse it in wild since you cant really mana cheat the cards. An ”abuse” could be discovering from your deck a bunch of spend all your mana spells and then just using those at turn 5/6/7/8 to finish the quest. Dunno if quest counts cards like that though.
– Only C’Thun Druid plays Celestial Alignment. Any other Druid ruins their deck by adding this card just for this single matchup, which Clown Druid for example will win just by pure board presence usually.
– Agreed, Control Warlock may be a counter to this deck – but may also accelerate their doom. Usually Control Priest uses because Control Warlock wins the fatigue game or burns a C’Thun piece (given Priest plays C’Thun). In order to consistently burn the Shard, they will have to wait until the bottom 5 cards. Guess what – Priest will play Illucia until then and use Tickatus themselves. So really not so easy.
– Polkelt is a good call, but it may just be too weak in the meta game against aggro decks. Primordial Protector might be a fine combo piece though.
My prediction: With the recent Priest nerfs, it will be difficult for Priest to get in the OTK against any reasonable aggro/tempo deck. It will all depend on the other unrevealed priest cards though.
Trying to think of a five cost card in priest. I already play the rest lol.
Against all Odds is a decent 5 cost card, which you might want to play as a Control OTK Priest. There are also decent 5 cost neutral cards for Priest, e.g. Moon Fang (which might actually see play with Elekk Mount). Also, there will still be the option to discover some 5 cost card. I sort of agree though – it might be the 5 cost cards that will be difficult to get in.
In wild with Brann double your chances of finding the shard
I think this is a really cool card, however I have to disagree with the hopefuls below – way to slow! Putting C’thun in your deck lowers your win rate and he is a comparable card.
Fun but bad. Excited to see some streamers play it.
This card is nothing like Cthun though. Cthun requires drawing 5 exact cards where half do nothing. This requires “losing” a card in your opening hand, but inevitably gives you a draw 2 and probably a 99% winrate against any slow deck.
All the questlines shown, ignoring the end reward are perfectly “playable” for their mini rewards. 1 mana get 2 cards. 1 mana deal 6 heal 6. Yes, it’s all “eventually” but not a single questline revealed requires going out of your way to get the first 2 rewards.
You’re right. I also overlooked the smaller quest rewards of discovering also – pretty powerful.
Still think it is too slow though.
So uhh.. What you need to do is uhh, you just need to wait until turn 7 even, you play 2 Palm Readings, and uhh, on your next turn, you win the game.
Nope, not totally broken at all. And It’s not even me being Salty. Priests are going to force some sort of Midrange of even Tempo style deck, and Even if it was Shuffled into your Deck, A Card is a Card, and if you were to draw more cards, guess just how easier it’s going to be to find the Shard. Finding the Shard is just as easy as finding a legendary in your deck. It’s somewhere in there, but the moment you play, is the moment you have a “get out of jail” free card. We’ve had practice with miracle Decks, and Spell Priests before, and we are going to find a way to exploit the absolute out of this.
If it was Hotfixed to “Dealing 30 Damage”, that still sounds as if I used a different C’thun the Shattered to me. A good way to nerf this is “Battlecry: Shuffle the Purified Shard somewhere within at least the last 15 cards or less of your deck left.”
You think Tickius was bad? bro, I think We’re going to see more Ticikus just to get rid of Priest Shard. This card is worse than Bomb Warrior.
It’s Absolutely disgusting. 5 Stars. it’s way too strong, and I’m not a fan of where I think this is going.
How do you complete turn 7? Mana cost reduction doesn’t count when it disqualifies a card from counting. You have to play cards at the required cost. You cannot complete earlier than turn 8 without a way to generate a dozen coins. the quest requires you play 2,3 AND 4 THEN a 5 AND 6 THEN a 7 AND 8. Then you get a 5 cost shuffle a game winning card into your deck, a tutor or Polkelt/prize vendor speeds up finding the card but you won’t see this as early as you claim.
This will NEVER be achieved by turn 7 , WAY too much stuff to play, can’t always expect to have the perfect draw in every game. Remember you need a 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 costs cards (palm reading could help out but could also mess things up) then play the 5 costs Xyrella THEN draw the 10 cost spell. You’re even lucky if you get it by turn 10.
Man I don’t think it’s buster, it just sucks for the game. With Uther and Mecha’thun you need to keep combo cards and the otk is pretty intricate; this one literally says: ‘win the game’. Da hell is that?! And you can even play the game as usual, you just win at some point. At least I’ll get my revenge when Hanar will give me Counterspell…
It’s impossible to complete before turn 10 and can very rarely be done before turn 11 or 12. It’s too slow and too inconsistent. Bronze players will love it, but it won’t be competitive.
Discounted cards count for their discounted cost, not their original cost.
You didn’t mention the part about how hard the quest would be to complete.
So you need to FIRST play a 2,3, and 4 cost card. But what if you don’t happen to draw them? What happens if you’ve played your 3 and 4 cost cards, but you don’t happen to draw your 2-cost card?
Then your quest will basically be stalled at stage one, and when you draw your 5-cost card but still haven’t drawn your 2-cost card, you would be forced to play your 5-cost card(because if you don’t you risk falling behind on board).
And then once you finally happen to draw your 2-cost card… you’ve already used up your 5-cost card. So you’d now be stuck at stage 2 of the quest, until you draw or generate another 5 cost card.
Even AFTER you finish all the quests, the reward is still pretty awkward. You have to play a 5-mana
7/7 do nothing, and then you have to wait until you draw out the shard to close out the game.
And all of that isn’t even mentioning how awkward all of Priest’s 5,6,7 and 8 cost cards are. Running them will visibly decrease the quality of your deck and make it more difficult to survive so long to the point where you can finish the quest.
I’m honestly highly skeptical this card will see any competitive play at all. Maybe if Priest gets some good cards this expansion it’ll reach tier 2 or 3 or so, but that’s as far as it goes. 2-2.5/5
This is my favorite questline yet. Naturally fits into a Control Priest deck, follows the curve, and sets a major timer for the opponent if it gets completed without being too guaranteed due to the risk of getting screwed on draws. This will be an autoinclude for every control priest deck I build for sure.
Polkelt then prize vendor once you have reward makes for ez cleanup if you can get it all on curve, those discover cards from your deck allow for some tasty tutors to keep victory in sight. Glad we didn’t get another quest line like the last one, which wasn’t bad, just very awkward for a spell heavy class. Not saying priest can’t be minion heavy just that dragon and big priest have very niche settings.
Man I was so excited for shadow priest, but looks like Random Priest gets a proper wincon this expac 🙁
Same, I hope shadow priest will get more support, even if I already love dark benedictus
We have got one more win condition.
I feel excited.
