Rummaging Kobold Card Review
What everybody suspected from the start is finally here: anti-(anti-weapon tech) tech. With legendary weapons being a centerpiece of the new expansion, we were worried that unlike Quests and Death Knights, weapons are too easily countered by tech cards such as Gluttonous Ooze, Harrison Jones or even the good old trusty Acidic Swamp Ooze. Well fear no longer! With the new Rummaging Kobold, your weapons are safe and sound in the graveyard, ready to be used again after a small down payment of 3 mana and a follow up investment of their original cost. And just when you’d think that the good Kobold is held back in “traditional weapon classes” because he can bring back “ordinary” weapons, I’m here to tell you that’s not necessarily a downside! It can be used in decks like Jade Shaman which can’t go infinite with their jade count, in order to reforge a Jade Claws or two, which is one of the few cheap early-game weapons that scales well into the late-game.
Card Review by Chimbarozo
So what happens if you return Kingsbane? Will it still keep it’s enchantments? And will you have 2 Kingsbane in your deck?
Now, the stats on this for draw a card are good, and generally if you’re going to be putting a weapon in your deck, it’s going to be a good one, so I’m optimistic about this card. It’s easy to manipulate what you’ll draw, and it’s usually something really good. If there’s a really insane Legendary Weapon this might just win you the game, and it can even pull you weapons that you normally can’t draw like Ashbringer. I think it has some real potential, but that’ll depend greatly on the weapons that we see come out of this set.
In Arena, you’ll avoid this card most of the time, but all it can take is one Truesilver Champion in your deck to make this card really good. But like always, you’ll have to regulate your weapons, as too many can be really damaging to a deck.
Standard: 3/5
Arena: 1/5 (non-weapon class); 3/5 (Weapon Class)
This card looks a little week, but could have some potential. I wonder how it would work if you used it on the the new priest weapon(Dragon Soul). It would be powerful in it because Priest hardly has any weapons, also Medhiv’s Staff would be good too. We’ll have to see when the expansion is released.
Should be in every deck playing a weapon.
Why would you want 2 druid weapons?
As a rogue, why would you want your dagger back? (High chance)
Do you really want 2 legendary weapons as mage?
This card will see play, but a 3 mana 1/3 is tempo suicide.
Yeah, it would be bad for a rogue using the dagger.
It’s great in mage decks which often run Medivh too, and a bit of insurance for the expected uptick in weapon destroying minions.
Mind you I said “deck playing a weapon”, and not hero power.
This plus gorehowl, or warrior dk paladin dk. This plus doomhammer = doomhammerer.
Doomhammer already takes 4 turns to use, which leads to it usually picked as a single card. It would be better to just pick 2 doomhammers if you wanted two. So no for doomhammer. With current weapons (including the new legendary ones revealed so far), I don’t see this being used outside of paladin or shaman with jade claws in a more jade heavy shaman.
MEDIVE VALUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed, makes me think why nobody ever thought to use doomerang with atiesh.
This is also good with frostmourne, warrior DK weapon, and the paladin DK weapon/tirion
Why would you think to use Medivh in Rogue? It is too slow and there aren’t enough high cost spells to justify it.
Generally, classes that run weapons do so in limited numbers, so avoiding the “discover” mechanic with this one was probably intentional. It requires you to build your deck a strategic way. Seems good in decks that can make use out of it, otherwise, you can tech it a longside legendary weapons or Medivh to always get back dat juice.
Seems viable, but requires critical deck building skills. Isn’t an “auto” include.
Not a good card,
Currently no. With the new legendary weapons coming out that will instill weapon removal to be mandatory? Heck yeah.
Ummm still no, even then it’s not good
how about bringing back token wapons wich are avaible only with cards ( warrior death knith,Palladin deathknigh, ashbringer, Atiesh) i say not bad
Problem is that it’s not “bad” but it’s not good either, a 3 mana 1/3 sucks and is a tempo loss. Also bringing back those to ur hand means u still have to pay full mana 4 the weapon. So u pay 3 mana for the Kobold and then 7 mana for Shadowmourne. That’s 10 mana for a weapon and a 1/3, that sucks. Plus it’s a RANDOM weapon so u might not get the one u want.
I play Rogue… I hate this card.
All jokes aside, this is going to be a staple with the new legendary weapons, especially with the meta hard-weapon-removal that will develop throughout the expansion. It gets less value if you play more weapons, as those weapons have a chance to be returned instead of your legendary weapons.
Unless you get to CHOOSE which weapon you get back, which with the card not having the word “random” it COULD be possible (buuut Deathlord also has similar text, sooo…).
Also, wild shenanigans with Brann. Just gotta put that out there. 😀
No way u wold need to have world like DISCOVER one of your destroyed wapons)
Also doesn’t say the word “Random”. I mentioned in my post that it was unlikely (“COULD be possible” -> probably not, but completely possible). So either it’s a god card in any class that doesn’t have weapons, or in a class that DOES play weapons (or in Rogue where your Hero Power consistently makes 3+ daggers per game) you either have to play around it and NOT use your weapons EXCEPT FOR the legendary, or you gamble and potentially get a 1-mana 1/2 Dagger. Now, does that make sense that a neutral card that benefits from weapons would see play in other classes that DON’T USE WEAPONS? Eh, I’m a bit skeptical, but then again, Hearthstone’s random, so I reckon it’ll be a random battlecry. Sucks for us Rogue players </3
I’m liking the set thus far ..but I hope Hunter actually gets love this time , the legendary creature is ok but we will see. Tired of a 4 CLASS meta we deserve better blizzard..
Priest has 2 decks, Rogue has a deck, warlock has a deck, paladin has 1 good deck, druid has 3 decks, shaman has 1 deck, Mage has multiple decks and all are viable for getting to legend. The meta is actually pretty good right now.
The real top tier decks are rogue, priest and druid though, there is hard evidence for this in metastats where winrates has been highest ifor these for more than a month now. People are also playing a lot of lock, probably because the class was irrelevant in the last meta and its ok. On ranks 5-1 you see pretty much no paladins, warriors and hunters. On rare occasions you see mages and shamans. I felt it was different just a month ago, but now that the post nerf meta settled…”to” has a point that it has been mainly 4 classes.
I am sick of Hunter not getting as much love as the rest of the classes. We got some great cards last expansion though so I do have some faith.
100% wont get a single copy of this when opening my 50 packs. Probably craft it because its required for (insert good deck here) and then it’ll become irreverent after 3 months.
irreverent
Irreverent? What does that mean?
A card that gives you the/a weapon back was kinda expected. It’s to easy to remove them with ooze so they wouldn’t just make Legendary weapons and not give them some kind of way to survive the clear or comeback to you, that would have been a waste.
Killer!
Love the art on this one.
