3 card in one but it’s too slow
The minion “Water Elemental” will turn to an elemental race?
I ask that because Pyros can help to define a really solid “mage elemental” archetype.
Well this card’s deathrattle makes a lot more sense when it comes to elementals because if you look at Fire Fly, the elementals are about playing them a turn before a big minion. Honestly it’s not the worst for an elemental. Guarantees you’ll always have one in your hand. At least that’s my viewpoint on in. I personally hate playing against mage because where I stand rankwise they just end up throwing burn at my face. Because that takes skill.
I wish the elemental synergies were summoned instead of played, i would make this card at least somewhat viable. In its current state, I think it is way too slow, and getting vanilla 6/6 and 10/10 bodies is just not big a resource andvantage enough. Add this to the majority of the elemntals revealed so far being mediocre at best (Tar creeper as the notable exception), and you will see a tribe that is unlikely to get play in the upcoming decks.
I hope that Team5 will prove me wrong and release some awesome Elemental cards.
Edit: This was before the overpowered Shaman legendary and the Divine shielded Tazdingo were revealed, lol 😀
the card’s not that bad imo. at the very least, it’s loot hoarder with one additional toughness that draws you a 6/6 minion and doesn’t get you closer to fatigue, and because it’s a mage card it can trade with a 3 toughness minion due to mage hero power and still retain card advantage, just like loot hoarder. But unlike loot hoarder, it doesn’t die to mage, rogue, or druid hero power due to additional toughness
card’s not bad. It’s a 2 drop that can trade with 3 health minions due to hero power and not lose card advantage and also does not die to mage/druid/rogue hero power. At worst it’s a loot hoarder with 1 additional health that draws you a 4/4
I think that the Mage quest card will revolve around elementals and if that quest card is good this might be good too who knows
Totally agree. I see the Mage quest being a play “X” elementals or else a death rattle quest.
A deathrattle quest would be odd since Priest already have one.
Might be decent if jade golems didn’t exist.
I think it is still too early to evaluate this card. Without meta context, it is a mediocre legendary (though flavourful, this thing is a resurrecting PHOENIX). We don’t know yet how the Elemental subtheme in Journey to Un’Goro has been designed. Maybe many who “meh-ed” this card now will have it in their Mage deck in April. And if not, 400 dust in your stash never hurts.
Not bad not bad.
Sometimes in control mage decks, there are some turns you only use hero power, so this card gives you an option to play some minions instead.
In addition, I like the art, it reminds me that amazing mount in WOW.
This card is also nice to fit fill out your curve if you play control mage
The problem with this card, as with the problem of several other “seemingly-powerful cards” is this card has no impact the turn it is played. It is essentially a “win-more” card in the sense that you’ll only get value out of it when you’re ahead on board. This card is way too slow against aggro decks and possibly slightly useful against grindy control decks but even still doesn’t bring a huge impact. Might see play in Reno Mage as a tech card but I highly doubt it. Not a fan.
Reno Mage, huh..
the problem with those no impact cards is that they can’t be played early game and often can only be played mid to late game. this can be played early game as it’s a 2 drop, so it doesn’t have to impact the board that much if you play it that early. at the very least, it can trade with an opposing 3 toughness minion and not lose any cards in hand, like loot hoarder which is played a few decks
Pyros 2 mana 2/2 Deathrattle: deal 1 damage to all enemy minions and return this to your hand as a 6/6 that costs (6).
Pyros 6 mana 6/6 Deathrattle: deal 3 damage to all enemy minions and return this to your hand as a 10/10 that costs (10).
Pyros 10 mana 10/10 Deathrattle: deal 5 damage to all enemy minions and return this to your hand as a 2/2 that costs (2).
maybe stop the loop and its a good card
I actually quite like this card – Mage tends to run lots of spells, more so than other classes, and as a result can struggle to compete on board (esp in say freeze mage, where you’re trying to gather combo pieces to burst them down).
This card, for one card slot in your deck, gives you 3 minions, and its a guaranteed draw as it’ll deathrattle back into your hand. Okay, no cool value/effects, but its value comes from being a guaranteed minion in your hand you can use to fight for board control and stop you taking so much face damage
– Neither the 2/2 nor the 6/6 pass the vanilla test (the 10/10 does, barely)
– It provides NO extra value on its own
– Its only value is derived from other cards and synergies
Name ONE legendary in the history of hearthstone with the same aspects that succeeded. That’s right, there isn’t any.
however this could be a tech card if they implement more dirty rat type cards. your opponent wont play dirty rat if they know they might pull a 6/6 or a 10/10
Brann bronze beard. Arch mage Antonidas.
Well played—You can indeed construe my above statement to use Brann Bronzebeard and Archmage Antonidas as counterexamples.
Allow me, then, to clarify:
– When I said “value derived from other cards and synergies” I meant tribal synergies (because it’s an elemental), in the sense of an understatted card having value because it gets aura buffs due to its tribe. But I don’t believe that this “tribal value” is (or has ever been) reality. Low-quality Murlocs or Pirates (or Beasts) don’t see play in a synergistic tribal deck, either.
– Antonidas and Brann do provide value on their own, even if it requires you, in order to utilize that value, to play other cards alongside them. Pyros does not provide any value outside of generating two more cards (cards that are understatted for the cost and offer only tribal membership as added value) I’d reckon that’s worlds apart from the immense value Antonidas and Brann add.
I’d submit cards like Hemet Nesingwary, Rend Blackhand, and Mimiron’s Head. All 3 have subpar stats, and only benefit from tribal synergies (or in Hemet’s case, the tribe of the opponent’s minions.) Of course, none of them benefit from the vanilla test, and their effects are much more specific. Worst case for Pyros, you have a minion with 1/1 for each mana spent and a deathrattle effect, which they either have to spend resources dealing with that effect (silence/hex/poly) or just let it go off. I’d say par stats and an effect that either wastes clear or gives you another minion is miles above any of the 3 cards I mentioned above.
That’s not to say that this card is meta-defining, but I certainly think it could see some play in elemental decks, especially if the mage quest involves summoning elementals. If elemental synergy turns out not to be useful, then this card probably won’t see a lot of play, but I don’t think it should be counted out just yet.
I think Pyros has real chance. It could work in deck where you want to win control games with three bodies that must be destoyed value, but unlike other heavy late game legendaries, Pyros is not a dead card in early game, and that is HUGE point to its favor. Because of that you can do at least something against agro unlike most of control cards.
it does provide extra value on its own. when it dies, it gives you a card, and thus you don’t lose card advantage when it dies. under your assumption, blood mage thalnos is horrible, since it’s a 2 mana 1/1 that only provides value if combined with a damage spell and provides no extra value on its own
One think to note it has Elemental tag wich may be valuablebot as it is its preeety ok great arena card but its legend so it pprobably contests others great arena cards so we will see and worth noting that arena will get significant chenges so it may be realy broken still
This card could be good in N’zoth decks and it might be found in wild Reno decks, but other wise it will be too slow.
You are the smartest person in this thread for saying that.
I don’t like this card. Ok, it has good synergy with N’zoth, but that’s all. In the end it is just a vanilla 10/10 for 10 mana. Not good for constructed but really great for arena.
I feel like this card could be super OP for several reasons A) synergy with N’zoth B) synergy with other elemental cards C) good in control/reno mage D) art work looks great. Before I’ve seen the whole set or at least most of it, I wont judge it because it seems like hidden OP for now but I also could be very wrong and this card could be fking crap xD
Three terrible on curve plays in one card. What a creative way to lose games.
100% arena card… like mage needed help there.
It’s a legendary….
I think that this card has an amazing potential with manic soulcaster and zoth. Oh MY GOD: D
How do you realistically survive the low tempo long enough to play the n’zoth though?
My friend plays a N’Zoth Reno Mage. He is going to be super excited when he sees this card.
He must also be excited to know Reno and this card won’t be legal in the same Standard.
He plays Reno N’Zoth Mage in WIld so he can use cards like Sludge Belcher. 🙂
lol, wild. what year is this, 2016?
By itself seems too slow, good value bad most of the time you can t loss tempo in that. May i,prove with other new stuff
