It’s hard to imagine this ever being played competitively. Sure there are silence combos and such, but janky stuff like that rarely succeeds on the ladder. Unless of course in some future expansion they release a card with a stupidly powerful deathrattle — like, say, duplicating your creatures when it dies — and people start using this to make broken combos involving massive chains of 5/7 charging Doomguard.
But honestly I don’t see that happening, and if it did Blizzard would *definitely* stop releasing support for that archetype in the following expansion. No way would they do anything to make it more broken than it already, hypothetically, would be.
3/10 stars, definitely never going to create a deck archetype of any sort.
just thinking that i could use it in wild with warlock deck… imagine to double low cost your hand and then late game krull and copy malganis.. then DK with two malganis on board.. or is faceless manupilator better since you can copy whatever you whant whenever you want?? ofc with one turn double mana cost down.
This card remind me too much of a another character: Alarak – the high lord of the Taldarim even then overall art kinda matches
maybe this card will see action in some future expansion
3.3/10
The first thing I notice is that it turns into a 3/3 copy of a minion does that mean it would turn into a normal version of that minion if slienced? If so I can see some crazy combos happening, especially with Barnes and/or silence/purify.
Second, since it become a copy of a minion, it gains that minions effects. And it is also good if those effects require the minion to die. It would also synergize well if the minions copied had buffs that activate when it fied meaning they would be copied as well. It would be just dandy if this hypothetical death triggered effect was getting an entire expansion dedicated to supporting it, where powerful new cards with these effects were being added. Sadly I can think of no such mechanic in the game.
Also the Moat Dweller can combine these two aspects, letting you quickly kill the 3/3 copy, then bringing it back as thought it were the same as the original.
I think that it is possible to play this card in Malygos Druid if you got an innervate and moonfires in turn 10 ..
I mean Malygos into innervate into Taldaram into 2 Moonfires = 22 dmg
Difficult but that is what i thought … 🙂
What do you say ?
http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Blood_of_The_Ancient_One COMBO WITH THE 9/9 AND ( 30/30 THE DREAM )
Play with druid so you can innervate out on turn 10 and then kek. Should be played in big druid
i guess it’ll be something like another legendary: if u played 3 Princes, all damage u’ll do will have lifesteal…
What? I can’t see a scenario where this would be even remotely good…
Is the minions on the battlefield the options to become a copy of?
I think this is probably better than how it’s being rated right now we’ve seen quite a bit of barnes being played so this could turn out to be a decent one for some sort of deathrattle deck or a deck with cards such as Ysera.
5/10 Probably wont see play but there’s some hope for it in deathrattle synergy land.
Turns out Ive read this incorrectly nevermind the review.
Doesn’t even synergize with the other prince..
nope I meant there would be “if you played other princes this game…” card text on the other prince.
True, maybe they all combine to bring out some giant dood
I think they wouldn’t make a card this bad, unless there is a motive behind it. IMHO there will be a win condition(I mean a really good synergy or something) with all the tree blood princes together. let’s wait until they announce all cards.
I thought the same because this is the worst card I’ve ever seen printed. Worse than the other Prince. Probably what they have in mind is bad also… but I want to see it.
I dont understand…. it cant be just a worse faceless …not for these requirements
but there is nothing that would give a hint that it could mean something else
I suppose we have to wait until the release to find out what this card really does
I don’t know why they think that messing up with the whole curve of a deck was a good idea for a legendary, maybe if these cards were epic… Nice waste of 2 legendaries spots.
Alright, I’m sensing a theme here. And now it’s time for another card-check. I’ll do it different this time, only listing class cards, and then neutral cards at the end. I’ll also include some cards that aren’t good now, because they were useful in past archetypes and there’s always a possibility of them working again. At the end, I’ll rank the classes in the order of likelihood to get Prince Taldaram to work.
Let’s go alphabetically.
Druid loses three main cards: Savage Roar, Feral Rage, and Jade Blosssom. Each of these are important parts of three separate archetypes. There are still a few neutrals to count, but that’s later.
Hunter loses a few more cards: Animal Companion, Kill Command, Cloaked Huntress, Deadly Shot, Unleash the Hounds, Eaglehorn Bow, and Rat Pack. The notable ones are Kill Command, Rat Pack, Deadly Shot, and Eaglehorn Bow. They’re all pretty good, and almost every Hunter deck (except Quest Hunter, which doesn’t really exist) runs at least one copy of any combination of these cards. I’m not sure this is the best class for this card.
Mage loses all of their secrets, as well as: Arcane Intellect, Frost Nova, Kirin Tor Mage, and Volcanic Potion. Not to mention that the removal of secrets also makes Medivh’s Valet and Arcanologist completely useless. Not that big of a fan of Mage’s compatibility.
Paladin is next, and they also only lose three notable ones as well: Aldor Peacekeeper, Divine Favor, and Wickerflame Burnbristle. There are also a few neutral minions that they lose, but we’ll get there later.
Priest only loses two notable cards, but they’re big ones: Shadow Word: Death, and Kabal Talonpriest. Not too sure about this one…
Rogue is next, and they lose a lot: Fan of Knives, the new Plague Scientist, Shadow Strike, Mimic Pod, SI:7 Agent, Edwin VanCleef, and Shaku, the Collector. Not liking the chances too much.
Shaman loses a lot more than I originally realized: Hex, Hot Spring Guardian, Feral Spirit, the new Icebreaker, Lightning Storm, Mana Tide Totem, and Far Sight. Not impressed.
Warlock is next, but the class cards aren’t as catastrophic as the neutrals lost: Shadow Bolt, Darkshire Councilman, Silverware Golem, and Chittering Tunneler. Like I said, these aren’t the bad ones, but they odds for Taldaram here aren’t too bad.
Warrior is the last class, and they lose some significant ones: Shield Block, Ravaging Ghoul, Bloodsail Cultist, and Frothing Berserker. These are prominent in one of the two versions of Warrior, and while it’s not impossible, I’m not enthusiastic.
Finally, the longest list; the neutrals: Acolyte of Pain, Earthen Ring Farseer, Eggnapper, Igneous Elemental, Ironbeak Owl, Tar Creeper, Coldlight Oracle, Coldlight Seer, Humongous Razorleaf, Injured Blademaster, Kabal Courier, Questing Adventurer, the new Shallow Gravedigger, Stonehill Defender, Vicious Fledgling, Gluttonous Ooze, Murloc Warleader, and Southsea Captain. These are all either currently powerful cards, cards that were forgotten due to shinier cards, or common tech cards. They might not all seem worth mentioning, but they’re the most likely possibilities that I could think of.
Time for my rankings.
1. Druid (could maybe be worked in to copy Gadgetzan Auctioneer or Aya Blackpaw)
2. Paladin
3. Warlock
4. Warrior
5. Priest
6. Rogue
7. Hunter
8. Shaman
9. Mage (Mage needs at least Ice Block to stand any semblance of chance)
The card itself is certainly an interesting effect, and it can certainly be incredibly powerful in the right situations. It’s tough to evaluate, so that will need to be seen only when the expansion is released.
I mean, all around, this isn’t as bad as Keleseth. But just barely.
also curious glimmerroot for priest.
Well, it sees very minimal play. I didn’t really think it necessary to include, but if you insist, Priest also loses Curious Glimmeroot.
But I think that you’ll agree that losing Kabal Talonpriest and Shadow Word: Death alone would still be enough to be unsettling.
Priest doesn’t need it on the account that it has Mirage Caller (also 3 mana)
Well, Mirage Caller also sees minimal play. I didn’t include it because I didn’t think it would be that important to consider.
Actually, now that I think about it…
There was a concept art, wallpaper, official poster, whatever the term is, for the nine Death Knight Heroes, and Anduin was holding a copy of Shadowform in his hand.
Huh. May need to add that to the list.
With it being able to turn into a 3 Mana Malygos i would rank Rogue higher with Malygos Rogue.
But think about the cards Rogue loses. Can you seriously justify giving up Fan of Knives, Mimic Pod, and SI:7 Agent just for a super rare combo?
And either way, the only reason a Malygos Rogue would actually play their Malygos is if it can’t die on board and their opponent is guaranteed to die within the next two turns. Adding in Taldaram there would just be overkill.
Or you just Hemet your deck, and all princes will be active. (or get destroyed)
I can allready see the third prince being a 1 mana card that doesn’t like other 1 mana cards in your deck. And all three of them with Hemet will be called the ‘Hemet package’
With each class getting a powerfull hero card, you can concider running hemet to get that hero card out and if you run hemet than these princes will probably help aswell.
For example midrange hunter could run hemet destroying half or more of the deck, but your getting those savannah highmane out, and have this guy become a copy of them or just copy a zombeast. Allso Keleseth could buff the remainder of your deck, making your last few cards a bit more powerfull. And the zombeast hero power does not care about being out of cards, it’s endless value. 😀
Even Barnabus could make those princes active if you dont run the spells of the same mana cost.
Anyway i think trying to make a deck arround these princes is the wrong approach and rather look at how a Hemet deck would work with these cards.
Dude, having only 1/15 of your deck being beneficial to an extremely specific combo is not good!
Look, Hemet COULD work with this and Keleseth. I won’t deny that. But if you’re getting rid of a decent chunk of your deck, how worth it are the Prince’s abilities?
For one thing, I think that the example you gave of running Hemet + Taldaram and/or Keleseth in Hunter is an AWFUL idea. So many of Hunter’s best cards are in the range to be destroyed by Hemet. Otherwise, you have Houndmaster, Savannah Highmane, Infested Wolf, MAYBE Deathstalker Rexxar. That isn’t enough value to warrant destroying over 30% of your deck. Keleseth would only hit ~7 minions on average, and Taldaram would end up not being useful right away, considering the fact that you’re spending most of your turn playing Hemet.
I appreciate the optimism. But sometimes you just have to look at things realistically. Neither of the Princes can work consistently with Hemet, nor even with the standard requirement. It’s just too much luck required on the player’s part.
Ok of I’m reading g this right, when it says transform into a 3-3 copy of a minion is it random? Or do you choose?
Is it a copy a minion in play like faceless does?
If it’s random this cards so bad for a legendary, even if your playing a deck with no good 3 drops and you wanna run the 3-3 for 3 for a chance at getting something good, there are also a ton of really crap cards you could turn into like Ticking A+bomb lol
Pair him with Hemet, jungle hunter and the problem is solved 🙂
I don’t think this card works the way most think it do. It reads “transform into a 3/3 copy of a minion”, not choose a minion to copy, meaning if this card just copies any minion in the standard universe and sends them out at random, you could end up with some very powerful effects for turn 3 (Ex. Malygos, strong deathrattle effects, etc.)
This card is confusing, do you get to choose any card in your deck to transform into? Your hand? Does it have to be on the board? Is this supposed to be good because you.can transform into one of your opponents minions? A 3-3 copy that is
It’s hard to justify if it’s just make a copy of a 3-3 of a minion on the board
Faceless does the same thing but better with no cost for 2 more mana if that’s the case
This card might be heavily underestimated. Sure, the effect seems bad at first, but don’t forget that the deck doesn’t have to be constructed around this card.
You can still put it in your deck with other 3 drops and if you draw it early you can play it as a 3/3 just for tempo and if you draw it late and you have no 3-cost cards in your deck left the actual gain might be incredible, considering that it’ll most likely be the lategame (so it’s probably for a control or mid-rangey archetype).
Not the greatest of all cards, but definitely underrated by the community.
So a big druid that innervates this with ysera to get 2x ysera cards? Kind of the only combo, unlesh you use double innervate but that is unlikely… Ahh yes there is Aya for jade druid or auctioneer for double draw… But overall there aint that many 7 or less mana cards that are worth it…. I suppose maybe they come with the expansion.
I do agree that we forget that this guy still has 3-3 stats. And should he be active, you can just duplicate an argent squire for the divine shield, or a jade swarmer…. (i still would rather have the raptor) But building a deck arround it, if it’s really just a faceless manipulator aint worth it i think.
ultimate troll…
Difference in card text from Faceless Manipulator and Faceless Shambler.
Manipulator: CHOOSE A MINION…
Shambler: COPY A FRIENDLY MINION’S…
Maybe just inconsistency/not enough space on the card though, wouldn’t be the first time. Still, 3/3 Tirion anyone?
I can see what they’re going for with Princes Taldaram and Keleseth; it’s akin to Reno decks in that it shakes up the usual deck building modus operandi. The problem is that the reward isn’t worth the cost. Sacrificing a single copy of all my cards for what is potentially a 29 point heal (and a decent body) is much easier to swallow than having no 3 mana cards.
Giving up Hex for a 3/3 copy of any on board minion just isn’t an attractive trade. And it will have to be an on board minion; there’s no mechanic to store out-of-match choices, not should there be, as that would crap all over the 30 card deck limit.
Oh well; more dust for epics.
Could it be that when you select this card for your deck, you have to choose a card from your collection in wich this guy will allways transform into when you play him. Meaning you can have a 3-3 tirion on turn 3 without having even a tirion in your deck or on the board. If that is the case this card is really cool.
The thing is faceless manipulator reads: Choose a minion become a copy of it. This guy reads transform into a 3-3 copy of a minion. (it says nothing about chosing)
If it would be transform into a minion from your hand or deck, than it should be read in the battle-cry.
The thing is if i look at the requirement of this card i simply cant believe this is nothing more than a cheaper version of faceless manipulator that doesn’t even get the same stats. But yeah maybe there simply was not enough room to add choose a minion, meaning it is just a shitty faceless…
Serious is the 2 mana discount needed for some sick combo? Only in wild you can emperor double malygos in 1 turn, and i doubt blizzard makes cards for wild combo’s..
Anyway if it really is a copy of a minion from your collection that you have to set before hand. Than this is one of the coolest cards blizz has ever done… (allthough 3-3 Jarraxus… ehm… )
BUT WAIT!!!!……what if….it transforms into a copy of any minion of your choice in the Standard format (Wild if played there) @_@
Really bad. The effect is underwhelming and you need Ysera, good Deathrattles, etc. to be in play. If these were Epics and you were allowed two, it might be ok. But only having one copy is another issue.
This card is really bad.Hope Blizzard let the good cards at the end of the reveal.
I dont even understand this card, like what does this card do? Should I be happy or sad? Why is this expansion so dissapointing with all the cards revealed so far. I really like this theme of death knights but damm what is this
i don’t understand this card, maybe can sinergize with hemet? but why the copy have to be a 3/3?
This just seems bad. REALLY hope Blizzard is burying the lead on this set. Even if so, whoever coordinated the spoiler rollout for KOFT needs to be given a sit down conversation.
Is this just an even worse faceless manipulator?
More like a worse Mirage Caller
I don’t understand the effect…
Cool effect but I feel it takes way too much set up. And no class is really going to cut all other three drops.
Frost nova, stonehill defender, mana tide totem, murloc warleaders, frothing beserker, kabal talonpriest, kill command, jade blossom: all staples of meta decks
You make a valid point but, it can still be interesting and possibly quite good paired up with other cards late game. Just because you have 3 drops in your deck, they won’t be taking over it unless you are playing something somewhat fast. As long as you draw your three drops, i see this card as being fun, hopefully having some good new targets from the expansion.
Definitely a fun card and I can see its uses in something like ramp druid. Don’t see it making a top tier deck though. Knowing my luck this will be the first legendary I open in a pack xD
Hmm well current iteration of EZ Big EZ Druid need only give up, Iron Beak Owl and Tar Creeper to fit this in the deck. Maybe can go in a new version.
If Paladin is willing to give ups Aldor (hard choice, yes), Wickerflame, and Rallying Blade it can clone Tirion in a Nzoth deck.
Would be nice on Control Shaman, but removing Spirit Echo, Mana Tide, Lightning Storm, and most importantly Hex is too much.
