This card seems pretty insane for Naga priest, or whatever other highroll aggro priest will come out of the next expansion. It basically casts Ineer Fire every time you cast a spell on a minion, and there are some pretty degenerate combos you can do with this card and the buffs priest currently has in standard.
The fundamental issue with legendaries which are very powerful in certain specific aggro decks but don’t provide long term value or aren’t just finishers is that you don’t have a way to make them reliable. An aggro deck needs to be consistent, and to be consistent it needs to contain cards that are good whatever the mulligan: they can’t afford to play a whole package just in case they get that specific legendary which then doesn’t even make then win the game. However, I don’t see this being a particularly big issue in an Aggro Priest deck: that archetype has always been highrolly and has always relied on the idea of being able to do incredibly powerful plays only if the stars align their way, and if they don’t they just kind of suck. Pelagos provides more consistency to that deck because they don’t need to put any package in to make it work, amling it so Pelagos just become another card which they might draw and which just might win them the game right there and then.
If it wasn’t clear, I don’t like that kind of deck and I don’t like Pelagos, but I can’t deny that it feels very, very good in that specific deck.
This is incredibly strong in Bless Naga Priest. This + Serpent’s Wig seems kind of hard to stop for any decks without good AoE. It’s interesting to see whether or not Stormpike Aid Station will see play in that deck or not, as I’ve personally found it really strong at preserving a wide board, and then if you play Pelagos you can suddenly make everything like a 5/5 or a 6/6 with Wigs.
This is DEFINITELY seeing play; how well it lines up in the metagame remains to be seen. It’s a 5* card in Bless Priest, but in the meta, I’ll hedge it’s more like 4* unless it’s a pretty slow metagame dominated by decks that have limited board presence.
You just play this in Naga Priest and spread your wigs around for absurd amounts of value from a 3 cost. On himself wig is a 1 mana +7/+2 buff where you have just as insane outcomes with cards like treasure guard or even Okani (8/8 okani is insane).
Also as others have stated, Shadow Word: Devour on this is probably just game ending.
Oo yea didn’t think about Devour, but this card plus Radiant Elemental + Wigs & Devour seems like it’ll pretty much break certain games down.
Like always. This class struggles with his own identity.
We already know how degenerate Divine Spirit + Inner Fire combo.
And we witnessed how they banned Switcheroo because it messed up Wild.
This again? Probably the nerf target of the first week outrage meta.
Now I know how to properly use future report button. It’s 90% coming from facing Priest class.
I don’t think it cops a nerf. I DO think it destroys week 1 because people will be playing slow, unrefined, crappy decks. Naga/Bless Priest can easily sacrifice 1 deck slot to fit this in.
The sinergy between this and Shadow word: devour is just busted
WTF
In naga priest you have always a consistent board with high health minions and low attack minions, you need “bless” for the finisher.
With this legendary you can get a agressive board, you wig this card its an 8/8, it sticks then a turn after you can buff f.e. a treasure card to a 7/7.
SO in this voyage meta it is pretty strong.
the question is how good is this in nxt meta when the tempo is quite faster.
We will see could be a big bait or a Metadefining card for nxt meta, the question is which cards will released for priest.
But for standalone this is pretty strong and will find his place til rotation 2024
4/5
Hmm, going to try to make a big priest deck with only this guy 😉
Just need a bunch of revivals and health boost. Or worst case just aoe health spells (should give them 6/6 at least).
I see how it can be useful (Naga priest for example), 4 mana 2 card 8/8 seems pretty cool. Without other cards from the set it is like 3/5 (more like 3.5/5)? Maybe 4/5, but definitely not 5/5
