If pirates get draw, there really is potential here

LOL at everyone who’s upvoting this or comparing it to Patches. This is NOTHING like Patches and I would even go as far as saying it’s a BAD card. Patches was good because it didn’t cost you a card, this DOES. The better comparison would be Happy Ghoul. And this is worse than Happy Ghoul because 2/2 vs 3/3 makes a huge difference in the early game. I can only see this being good if you have two of this in hand and a T1 Pirate. And that will not normally happen. 1/5 stars in Standard, in Wild you might still play this in Aggro Pirate with stuff like Ship’s Cannon around, but in Standard it’s just not worth it.

On note of being nothing like patches. Patches still cost you a card it’s just it comes straight from the deck instead of the hand. And unlike patches this card isn’t a dead weight if pull it in the Mulligan. It has +1/1 in stats and at no real point would you need to worry about the 2 cost unless you had no other pirates in hand. So depending on the situation this is a better patches and for warrior with the new weapon you get 3 shots of drawing this or other pirates straight out of your deck meaning not as much pressure of thinning your hand.

Technically, a card pulled out of your deck didn’t cost you a card. Because this term usually refers to cards in hand.

Patches doesn’t cost you a card in hand (unless you draw him), and everyone would run 29 cards in their deck, it makes the chances of drawing your good cards slightly higher. The only time this card is better than Patches is if you draw Patches, but pretty much every card is better in that situation, whereas Patches is really good if you don’t draw him.

I think the real assessment of this card is somewhere between a Wisp (horrible) and Happy Ghoul (great when discounted). So… mediocre? I can go up to 2/5 stars.

Well, it might be worth it if Standard Pirate decks need to be ultra aggressive against that Galakrond Dragon Control stuff. We’ll see if that is the case, but I won’t write the card off so soon.

I think I’ll go up to 2/5 stars, if there’s dedicated Aggro Pirate decks then yes, you will probably run a 0 mana 2/2. It is definitely better than a Wisp (which is normally horrible), and Aggro Druid did run Wisps (or Penguins, which are Wisps with the Beast tag) because of the power of Mark of the Lotus. Rogue and Warrior don’t really have stuff to buff wide boards so I’m still skeptical, but it is indeed positive tempo.

I just am unsure how good a 0 mana 2/2 that forces you to run Pirates will be in Standard. There’s a ton of stuff hitting for 2 damage in the new expansion, including AOEs. Just thinking on Shaman’s Galakrond Hero Power for example makes this card look bad.

WTF are they thinkg… this is a feminist patches… not as steady as the olĀ“bucanneer, but could be game breaking.
    Imagine having 2 of these + a 1/1 + a 1/3 weapon in turn one…

Exactly – if it’s in your hand. Patches chances of being in your deck are much bigger, even if you can run 2 of those. And to be really effective, you’d need lots of 1 drop Pirates, too.

      Still a solid card.

Gotta remember though if play in warrior has a weapon that can add pirates to hand from deck when use it. So odds of this getting into your hand can tend to go up.
