Militia Commander Card Review

I actually like this card. It’s a bit hard to rate when you first look at it, but there is a whole other way to look at it. Let’s say that on average you will hit a 3 Attack minion, I think that’s reasonable given that it comes down on Turn 4.  You Charge it into the minion, clear it and still have a leftover body on the board. Even though the damage disappears, it’s left as a 2/2. In this case, it’s a bit like Flanking Strike, or even a Firelands Portal, which low-rolled (although you obviously don’t play it for low-rolls). You deal 5 damage for 4 mana and potentially have a small body on the board left. This is not a minion, it’s a removal that summons a minion. Because playing it without killing something is really bad – a 4 mana 2/5 is a terrible stat-line and something you never want to play in Constructed.

Now, since it has limited health, it obviously works best when hitting something with 5 life and low Attack. You can Flanking Strike an 8/8 and you would still summon a 3/3. If you run this into an 8/8, you’ve dealt 5 damage, but you’re left with no body. So while the results of this card will vary more than of the Flanking Strike. If you use it to clear a Doomsayer (with 2 damage from another source, of course), then you’ve dealt 5 damage and are left with a 2/5 body – that’s really amazing. But running it into a 5+ Attack minion is basically a 4 mana “deal 5 damage to a minion” that doesn’t go through a Taunt – while not the end of the world, it’s not optimal.

All in all, I like this card. I don’t think that it’s incredibly powerful, it’s not a card that you build your deck around, but it’s solid. Generally, cards that deal damage and leave a body behind are good, even if the body is relatively small – the Flanking Strike I’ve mentioned is one example, but also Jade Lightning (played even in the decks where Jades don’t stack very high) or Imp-losion (better at 4, given the deck it was played in, but had a potential to low-roll).

However, the one thing that this card might collide with is actually Baku the Mooneater, the revealed Legendary. It seems like Control Warrior MIGHT be a deck it finds its home in, and this is an even cost card, so it wouldn’t be possible to play both. But, since it’s too early to assume that Warriors will run Baku, I have to leave a good rating.

P.S. Even better in Arena than the Echo Taunt guy, this is like a 9/10 Arena card.

Card rating: 7/10

This is a bomb squad that costs 1 less with no downside. That’s pretty good!

True I didn’t think of it like that. I kept looking at it as 4 mana 2/(3/2/1). But on avg it probably will be bomb squad no death rattle. Though we only really see bomb squad in a arena, b in rouge for shadow step, and c some times evolve shaman. It might see some play in control, or enrage warrior.

But personally I would run kor’kron elite over this as elite still provides a chance to hit face if you want it give you more flexibility to play with.

I have one question. Let’s say you are playing priest and you Mind Vision this card , you play it and it dies , after that you cast Eternal Servitude and summon this minion , so the question is , can you hit face in the same turn that you casted eternal servitude ?

Based on the descriptions, I would say it keeps Rush when brought back, which means it can’t hit face. It would also be attacking a minion at only 2 attack however because no battlecry.

Also this is a warrior class card so eternal servitude doesn’t mean anything for this.

I know it’s a warrior only card , but like I said, you can get this card with Mind Vision or Thoughsteal and have it killied and you can also control this minion with Potion of Madness and subaro it and then summon with eternal servitude.

I think yes. See the Charged Devilsaur. Can’t attack heroes this turn. But if you somehow ressurect that, can attack the enemy hero. Rush is “Can’t attack hero this turn with charge”. So, yes. 😀

This is the most OP card that was ever playable in arena.

I’m not an arena player, but isn’t that something Warrior needs? I thought it was still one of the worst arena classes, correct me if I’m wrong.

I can see Blizzard still doesn’t want to make Warrior strong again.

    Too bad.

Kind of has the flanking strike drawback of not always really being able to slam it on curve if there isn’t anything to hit but similar upside as well.

This card makes me excited to see whatever the helse they come up with for Warrior cards, seeing as how this is quite powerful. It’s like a Korkron Elite for more control-style decks, which interests me quite a bit.

    4/5 Stars from me.

    4 5/5 kill a minion
    Next turn
    2/(3-1)

So Really it would be 4 mana 2/2 battle cry destroy a minion.

Now this is making a general assumption that you will usually play this to kill a minion and on avg we could say you will kill things with 2-4 attack (could just trade or kill something with one attack). But I think this is what on avg we will see with the card.

So it’s good for board control but that’s about it. I would say 3 stars out of 5. This will most likely see some play but only in more control focused decks I think.

Though I didn’t account much for it then being an injured minion that could be buffed so it could be used to combo. So it might have a chance to see more play in some kind of combo warrior deck.

This is going to be strong… 4 mana 5 damage minion removal, and almost always developing an injured body on the board. Great tempo synergy with Battle Rage, too. I’d give it 4.5 stars, but since I can’t, I’m giving it 5.

I wonder if they are going to change some other cards to have the same? Giving Charged Devilsaur Rush for example.

They’d have to change Malchezaar’s effect to, to read “Start of Turn” as well. I think they would.

But, if they change Charged devilsaur to rush – it doesn’t hit face with recruit. Right now it works with Katrina. Hope they don’t change it.

It would also murderer that meme cube deck. imo that would be why they did it though.

Both recruit and cube break the card. The whole point was to give a charge that targeted minions but could operate normally afterward.

They have shown their general hatred for face charging cards for a while now.

Very good Warrior card, immediately a 5/5 that can clear pretty much any minion that your opponent plays on curve. Don’t really know where Warrior is going this expansion, but very good standalone card. Excellent reactive card that can be drafted in Arena, too.
