Very very slow card so it is not good against aggro. If the card would have cost 3 mana and the body was smaller like 2/3 it would have been much better. Too expensive and too slow 3.5/5 stars
Honestly, I don’t understand why this card was rated so high.
Five mana two attack that basically does nothing on your turn when you play it? This is basically hopeless against aggro. There’s no way you can play anything with just two attack on turn five that doesn’t have taunt.
Way too slow. 3/5
I’d raise to at least a 4/5 or 3.5 have to remember still have LPG which it top deck this later = a 1 cost 2/8 giving an upgraded spell playable in same turn. Also 3 of the spells combo well with vargoth.
Hmmmm and if play late game could use the 9 cost add copy to hand deck an 1 to board meaning 3 upgraded spells. And if use the archmage vargoth explosion can be an normal flame strike. Tome adds 6 spells. And missiles do 12 not much point using the others with vargoth.
I’m sorry but this card is not very kosher.
You only have a 1/3 chance of getting the one you want, so this card is probably too inconsistent to be good.
There is some power difference beetween upgraded spells so if you have bad rng you May not get something good. Thats one downside and the other is tempo maybe but i dont think it will matter. Dragon synergies are already ok at mage soooo that wont be a problem too. Highlander mage could rise again. 4/5
When Kripp sees all the aoe cards it’s gonna get extremely SALTY
I thought this was trash until I saw the full list, I thought we only had 3, one of which was the trash polymorph. I think this is good but it does mean your only gonna get 3 out of 9 cards so you might not get what you needed but you’re likely to have at least one removal/aoe option and one value/draw option, plus Mage, although not as good as Priest or Paladin, has run dragons in the past and will probably continue to do so. So overall very good 8/10
As it turns out, the three spells shown yesterday were just examples! I’ve updated the post with a list of all 9 spells you will be able to Discover from. It makes the card even more flexible, but less consistent.
Thank you for the update!
Where are people getting the idea for a 3 mana sprint? The card says MAGE spells.
Malygos’s Intellect: Cost 3 mana, “Draw 4 cards.”
Sprint: Cost 3 mana, “Draw 4 cards.”
So it is basically Malygos’s Intellect= 3 mana sprint.
Sprint Cost 7 mana sorry about that.
OK. I misread the arcane intellect card. please disregard previous comment.
It seems like upgraded mage spells come from basic set, also it looks like if you see a number in a text +2 to it, if adding +2 meaningless lets play around to mana cost which could be “1”. Therefore my predictions for the remaining cards are:
Arcane Explosion: Cost: 2 mana, Text: Deal “3” damage to all enemy minions.
Arcane Missiles: Cost: 1 mana, Text: Deal “5” damage randomly split among enemy characters.
Flamestrike: Cost 7 mana, Text: Deal “6” damage to all enemy minions.
Frost Nova: Cost “1” mana, Text: Freeze all enemy minions.
Frostbolt: Cost 2 mana, Text: Deal 5 damage to a character and Freeze it.
Mirror Image: Cost 1 mana, Text: Summon four 0/2 minions with Taunt.
What do you think?
Id say Mirror Image would be REALLY weak, dont know how to fix it tho 😛
That was a pretty decent guess! Although, I think they were much more generous with flamestrike and more careful with arcane explosion since the latter can be played the same turn with the dragon…
I’m Scared of Mage now. Blue-Eyes White Dragon Control Value Freeze Mage is going to be thing.
6 Stars even.
1 cost polymorph alone makes this 5 stars
The card is strong, 5/5
But what the heck happened to the art? That doesn’t even look like Malygos aside from “it’s a blue dragon!” Like ???
Actually, the art work for the original Malygos is wrong. It is based upon Kalecgos, for some rater odd reasons. (Read about it at https://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Malygos, and follow the Twitter citation to get to Ben Brode’s explanation).
This Malygos is closer to how he is currently depicted in WoW (https://wow.gamepedia.com/Malygos).
Fireball +2 damage, Arcane Intellect +2 extra cards, and 1 mana polymorph. Well I’m sold, doesn’t matter what the rest of the advanced spells are if this is the power level we should expect. Especially since discover gives flexibility and mage is generally one of the easiest classes to run dragons in. 5 mana 2/8 body is thicccccc too.
5/5. Especially for the 3 mana sprint, because prep’s got nothing on new Maly (RIP Prep I’m still bitter)
This card is exceptionally good. I think that dragon mage could run a highlander package and this card fits perfectly. It’s flexible, with good stats and really good card generation. I think that Arcane intellect is probably the best of the bunch, but the others can be useful if you need a good burst of damage or to remove a powerful minion. It’s kind of a less good zephrys, but since zephrys is the best card ever printed in hearthstone, I think that Malygos will be goo anyway.
I just discovered that those three aren’t the only malygos’ spells. That doesn’t really change what I think about the card, because the high randomness is compensated by the higher flexibility.
is this the only upgraded spells? or there’s more?
1 mana polymorph ? 3 Mana sprint? 4 mana pyroblast ?.thats broken
