Lynessa Sunsorrow Additional Information
Peter Whalen discussed some of the lore behind Lynessa Sunsorrow:
Lynessa’s a former Blood Knight. After they stopped draining power from the Naaru, she left the order disgusted. She felt that the elves had grown weak and that drawing from the Sunwell couldn’t give her the power she truly sought. Now starving for magic, she’s come to the Catacombs, a repository of ancient energy. As she explores, she drains the magic from the air, feasting for the first time since she left Silvermoon. – Source
So I found out that any spell you targeted your minions with, even if the spell required the minions to be damaged or something else, she still getting the buff and its nutz. So its fun when you discover teh buff cards from other classes. And ya, as long as you can adapt her and give her stealth for the turn or can’t be targeted by spells then you are generally fine. Even if they do, so what? If your playing a Midrange Paladin deck almost everything you paly is a target for silence or something else.
If someone holds their silence for this (or didn’t have it until this), you’ve already got loads of value out of your buffs AAAAANNNNNNND if they already used it on another minion (which will likely be the case), you’ll get loads of value out of this card.
‘Just another Hearthstone card design meeting’
Brode : i heard that evolve shaman is too strong, lets, nerf it to oblivion like what we did to warsong and blade flurry.
Someone : what about high mana low stat cards that’s barely useful in shaman decks?
Brode : great idea, lets make a ton of those in the new expansion.
Me : what about druid and priests?aren’t they too op?
Brode : nah we want money. Unlike evolve shaman, good druid and priest decks require a lot of legendary, so we aren’t gonna fix it.
Someone : what about making more legendary for them so we can earn more money?
Brode : great idea, lets do it in the new expansion too
That’s how they make this expansion i guess
What’s that got to do with this Paladin Legendary?
I’ve never seen a better Earth Shock target.
XD
Why are people bashing this card? it’s absolute nuts! Play adapt, get Stealth or Spell immunity, and your Lynessa will come out Stealthed or Spell immune. Heck if you get Stealth, you can combo it with Faceless Manipulator and get absolutely insane value. It has way higher value than Tyrion, and Tyrion saw A LOT of play. If you don’t get lucky, your opponent STILL has to use precious polymorph/silence removal on your minion (there aren’t a lot of those).
Sure, it might have way higher value than Tyrion but it could also have next to no value depending on the game is going.
My question is this: Paladin Buff spells go into two categories the ‘Give’ (Blessing of Might, Spikeridge Steed) group and the ‘Set’ Group (Dark Conviction, Dinosize).
Now let’s say I cast Blessing of Kings and Dinosize on a minion. It dies and then I play Lynessa. It casts Kings to GIVE it +4/+4, then Dinosize to SET it at 10/10. Will it be a 15/15? Do the SET spells trigger before the GIVE spells? If not, then you can only cast the GIVE spells and forget Dinosize or Dark Conviction.
Probably, the order you casted the spells during the game will be the order they’ll be cast on Lynessa.
So, if during the game you’ve played a Blessing of King, then a Dinosize, then a Blessing of Might, your Lynessa is going to be a 13/10.
Starts 1/1, then 5/5, then 10/10, then 13/10.
probably same as with kazakus before patch: first it’ll be in the order you cast them this game, then they’ll notice it feelsbadman and fix it to make sense. or they won’t. definitely it’ll start with the order they were cast.
This card would not be fair if u used 2 blessings of kings, 2 steggodons and 2 silver moon portals. Only surious counter is silence and most decks can only run 2 to 3 disscluding priest( I think hearthstone has afficially made a class u can’t beat or is near impossible to)
Paladin is not even tier 1 mate.
But there is potential after jades and highlander prist rotates.
Even then though i think it will still lose to warlock and warrior.
one of the few times where paladin gets a shitty legendary card. rate 9/11
This will see zero play. Too slow, too easily removed/silenced and way way too much set up required. Yes, playing her and getting 2x Stegs is good, but not good enough if you ask me – not for 7 mana.
If they release a good buff this expansion this card is easily a 5 star
Play “adapt” and hope for can’t be targeted
But then spellbreaker would still hit this
Oh, man. Silence counters this card!? WHO’DA THUNK IT!!!?!?!?
it’s supposed to be a direct support for paladin quest, i guess so you have more than 1 win condition but
unless we get decent buffs it’s not worth the cost at all and pally quest will remain unplayed
i hate to say thins but WRONG, even 1 spikeriged steed before playing this is very good 7 mana 3/8 taunt deathrattle summon a 2/6 taunt, noones playing silence at the moment and steed and tyrion all have those issues so more cards to use up those strategies is a good thing, and hat are you talking about 5/13 taunt deathrattle summon 2 2/6 taunts isn’t good enough what are you smoking.
Turn 10 = this legendary + zola the gorgon-> fukk yo silence
Thing is how much silence people will play. Also if Mage or Shaman(polymorph classes) are competitive.
But if they are not and people only run one silence they will use either in the 2 spikedridged or bonameres or this or tirion.
Either way you are good.
The card is really good depending on the meta.
I think this does work for the Paladin quest. on the card it says “Cast every spell you cast on other minions on this one.” so it says cast, doesn’t that mean YOU cast it? Technically…
No, it doesn’t work that way. Same rules as yogg.
If you adapt your minions will she gain the adaption randomly or your selected adaptation?
Also Dinosize looks more appealing if only there was a way to give your minions stealth in Paladin
Probably thesame as the voraxx, giving you a new choice of adaptation when you play this
Well this doesn’t help trigger Quest, but it works with the deck and seems great to pull out late game after you buffed Vorax and other creatures all game. I might be wrong though since I’ve never played the Paladin Quest. It says cast with the quest so I guess this will help out. Now I’m just waiting to hear it from someone about , “Oh it helps quest”, when I’ve already corrected my self in this comment.
6/10
If Spikeridged Steed was the only spell that was cast on a minion over the course of the entire match, this card would still be worth playing. Anything extra added on top of that is an instant win condition.
Unless of course, your opponent runs any sort of silence or hard removal. In that case… whoops.
Unless you play the 1 mana “adapt” card => untargetable
Vilespine Slayer would like to disagree.
stealth would like to disagree
Well, currently the only Pally Buff that sees play (and that’s being generous since Pally has really fallen out of favor) is Spikeridge Steed. But honestly… that’s pretty much enough. A 7 mana 3/7 Taunt that summons a 2/6 taunt when it dies? That sounds playable. And what if you’ve already cast both of your Spikeridge Steeds? A 5/13 Taunt that summons two 2/6s when it dies for 7? That’s pretty nuts. I don’t know if you’d be willing to play any of the other pally spells to make this work, but honestly Spikeridge is probably plenty. This seems like a card that Pally will happily add to its growing ranks of awesome Legendaries.
In arena, it all depends on if how many Spikeridge Steeds you’ve drafted at the time you see this card. 1 probably isn’t enough, but if you’ve got 2, you pick this card for sure. Most of the time though, this card will be mediocre or even horrible. I’ll give it an extra point though because getting it in a deck where it works out doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch (especially since Blessing of Kings is another option that’s commonly picked in Pally arena).
Standard: 4/5
Arena: 2/5
Best case scenario it gets 2x Steeds or in some aggro(i dont think this will be used ever in a aggro murloc paladin because of its inconsistency ) 2 blessings or steeds.
All solved with silence.Based on what we’ve seen so far from the set, silence will be run in every deck.Carnivorus Cubes , minions with recruit deathrattles , Demons with 3 taunts spawning and the list goes on.
Every deck will run silence so this card even if it comes after you’ve played some spells will probably get silenced.
3/5 I guess it’s fair considering the powerhouse of legendary minions paladin already has.
If you lay on hands a minion then this card gets the battlecry – Draw 3
Lyrics:
Galvadon, the last Kaleidosaur
He’s got stealth and a whole lot more
Galvadon, the last Kaleidosaur
He’s not that bad if you don’t die turn 4
From the Un’goro crater a long time ago
Comes an underpowered friend, often too slow
Galvadon, the last Kaleidosaur
He’s got windfury and a whole lot more
Galvadon, the last Kaleidosaur
He’s not that bad if you don’t die turn 4
Everytime we play him, we don’t really care
If we finish up the quest before we die to a rogue
From rank 23 to the tournament spotlight
We found a friend who helps us win at least sometimes
Galvadon, the last Kaleidosaur
He’s got stealth and a whole lot more
Galvadon, the last Kaleidosaur
He’s not that bad if you don’t die turn 4
I think I saw the Loraxx palling around with him in Denver
AAAAAAND they nerfed evolve shaman.
Not really, IMO, the seven-drop slot already was pretty weak and you wanted to just get through it as fast as possible to hit the eights which are practically gg. It definitely is a low-roll, but you aren’t really relying on the seven-drops as an evolve shaman and only care about them in that seven is before eight.
Not really. So far there have been three seven-mana minions revealed in this set, only one of them has stats less than that of Dooplegangster or even Chain Gang, but its only one option in the larger pool of 37. You’ll hardly see it, and I’m sure better seven drop minions will be revealed soon enough.
If the standard card pool of seven cost minions was only four cards before the release of K&C, this can be seen as a nerf to Evolve Shaman, but you’re more likely to go Dooplegangster into Evolve than you are to to go Dooplegangster into Thrall, Deathseer anyway.
I would say this set as a whole has been much more of a boon to Evolve Shaman than a bust considering how every six drop minion has at least a 4/4 stat line, one of them being a 4/10 with taunt.
Either way, the pool of higher cost minions doesn’t matter that much, especially if your constantly evolveing. The evolve mechanic is as strong as it is because it let’s the player easily recycle their minions
Remember kids, every Evolve nerf is a Devolve buff
The question is, is this better then bonemare? And if its not better, is it good enough to want to run up to 3/4 7 drops in a midranged palidin?
I can see this working out decently in most midranged decks. Kings on 4, Steed on 6, this on 7… so 7/11 taunt for 7 some of the time. but the fail on this is just so bad I don’t see it being consistant enough with the current card pool.
Make Galvadon Great Again – 2/5
WHOA ! Even 1 Steed makes this card good !
When will blizzard learn that it takes more than a large body to make a card good, especially in the late game. This is just another card that pushes the meta of using more silence cards, just like how legendary weapons will make people play more ooze cards. It just won’t work out 50 percent of the time.
I’m pretty fur thats the point, they’re making big body cards that force people to play silence cards that are known for being bad for tempo which are the most dominant decks right now.
Large body with adapt, deathrattle, divine shield…
Geting this from de-evolve…
When it *was* Tirion 😐
Silence sure. But most decks only run 1-2 max, and pally has this, tirion, spikeridge, quest minion, on and on and on. So many good targets.
Yeah, I agree, if nothing else it fishes out a removal before Tirion. Kind of cool, not craft worthy for a free to play player though.
Would this cast the spells in order of when you casted them? If so then you can run dark conviction in Buff Paladin. If not then you will not be able to play it.
Interesting card, and it’s pretty much a 1 cost reduction on hero power spikeridge steed, since you often do have a minion on turn 6 to play it on.
My only question, is can this be viable?
Right now very few decks run silence (Some Kazakus highlanders) very few run silence (Some control decks run the 4-mana neutral minion) and even less have ways to gain silence (Getting Iron-beak owl in Build a beast from DK Hunter)
The meta could shift to where we do see more, but this at best (at the moment) could be an OK deck, but not a high top tier deck, and ones that do have top tier potential are pretty much existing decks with new cards worked in.
Even in my Highlander deck, I have no use for silence because silence is used for denying deathrattles (uncommon), continuous/trigger abilities (Usually fairly small), and buffs (I rarely see something worthwhile to silence that isn’t worth just using any other removal) at best it’s are hero power refresh (with velen, it’s 8 damage for free), at worst it’s a dead card (full hand but need to draw combo pieces)
Even though silence is a thing, I can’t see this becoming that viable, simply because it is SLOW, jade druid ramps too quickly on a decent draw, playing a buff means not playing a minion, so removal takes out the threat and leaves you behind, some buffs aren’t that useful (Silverman portal, buff is small, minion is small) some buffs compete for critical turns (Blessing could also be a True Silver or Consecrate, sure the minion is big but those cards I find much more helpful for controlling the board, and with a card like this that’s what you want)
If I get this card in my first 10, I wouldn’t outright disenchanted it, but to find/make a deck where this works? I don’t think it’ll be during the year of the mammoth is what I feel.
Adaptation (spell immunity), 2x Spikeridge, and maybe Blessing.
Value-POTENTIALLY insane, but potentially a dead card if you can’t get your buffs out.
Very, very interesting card. I like that it’s not an auto-include like so many Paladin Legendaries, and I love that it’s geared towards Quest Paladin.
I wonder how this interacts with the Quest. Do the additional buffs that it casts count towards completing the Wheat, or not (as with The Voraxx)?
This card kind of makes Dark Conviction (set a minion’s health and attack to 3) a dead card, as it could possibly cancel out your BoK or Dino-Size. I guess it depends on if there’s an order to how the buffs are applied.
Ye exacly my thinking if you throw one of those they may lower the value thou dark conviction is not good enough to be played and dinosize will be still ok-ish becouse usualy it will still buff attack
This seems like it could be tossed into any deck that is already running kings and spike ridge steed, as if both have been played this would be very strong on curve. I don’t think the people saying silence is a problem really get that if you’re playing this turn 7+ you had to have already played at least one really good silence target previously, so unless people are spamming just a ton of silence I think this card would be mostly fine from that. I’d be more concerned with consistency drawing the right buffs and balancing them.
Seems like it’s trying to bring up again buff and Galvadon Paladin.
Again, the question remains: “How good is silence?”
This card is severely underestimated. It does not matter that it can be silenced… This card is pretty exciting honestly.
i know its like when people say oh it can be killed by vilespie i mean yea but thats against a certain deck and does not devalue the card overall, its like saying lich king is bad cos you can destroy it, or 2 atk cards are bad because of priest.
If you cast adaption on a different card, would it be the same adaption or can you choose again what to adapt to? I’m guessing the latter, but it could go either way.
Not sure why people are voting average; cast Spikeridge Steed once and you’re getting full value. Cast Dinosize and it could be good or bad depending on circumstances (order of casts? How does that work with Dinosize or 3/3 dinosize?). Blessing of Kings is good. Others can be meh, but the high-roll buff is basically just Spikeridge.
Also wild shenanigans with Brann… Heck yeah 😀
Make quest great again. (no)
This card is veeery good. 5/5 for sure in control/midrange decks.
I don’t understand why ppl are rating this card so low.
All you need is a single spikeridge steed to be cast, to make this card worth playing. More often than not you would be willing to cast ur hero power to spikeridge steed it, and this does exactly that.
Who doesn’t want a 3rd copy of spikeridge steed in a Pally deck?
And think if you already cast both of ur SS, or blessing of kings. the value goes through the roof.
It’s called Silence
That makes no sense. Spikeridge Steed is weak to silence too. Is it a great and powerful card? Yes. It’s played very often. Same with Tirion.
You’re playing all cards in the same deck. You use Spikeridge Steed and if they silence it you smash this card. And if they don’t silence they don’t have it or just saving it for Lynessa. But they have to deal with the Steed.
This card can be found from that “out of my jungle” guy often times. Several Lynessa are so strong^^
She isn’t a taunt o you can’t discover her with stonehill.
So you keep the silence in hand for this card and hand manually other minionsbuffed with blessing of kings and spikeridge steed?
I’m fine with it. I would even thank you for doing it.
Assuming a random 2x SS + 1 belssing of kings in a random midrange paladin deck (which might even run 2x bonemares, whose buff is a good target for silence as well) + this card, how may silence cards will all the meta decks play? 2x spellbreaker + 2x ironbeak owl? I don’t think so.
are you afraid of playing all ur buffs on the board into a mass dispel? Well, you deserve to lose if you do so :D:D
And then enemy plays silence. Tadaaam. ?
To all those guys that say “silence”… If you have 1 or 2 silences how can you know that he have this card in deck? Will you spend silence on something else like buffed minion or tirion? Or you will wait and mybe he even dont have this minion in deck…. For every fckin card there is counter but ask yourself: will you have that counter in hand when card is played? Or will you even have it in deck in new meta? Gl & hf
Well those are tech cards (usually one or two cards) to counter a specific card or archetype. The probability alone when drawing that card is a different issue, but for Sunsorrow to be a 7 cost minion with that kind of battlecry, surely, it won’t be played on turn 7 considering the paladin also has to draw all or most of his viable spells to cast on a minion, meaning it has to be a control paladin, so the tech card being drawn by the opponent to counter Sunsorrow, is pretty much high.
However, we can’t deny the fact that Sunsorrow COULD have some value with her with all those spells the paladin could cast.
This is Evolve nerf!
On the other hand it has some potential in Quest Paladin. Perhaps you can complete the quest earlier and then copy the Kaleidosaur with Zola the gorgon and play another copy for more value. Let´s see what happen in this new meta.
Battlecries trigger twice?
good card, could give up to two spike stead, and get a few other things, never gonna be a 1/1 but to make it a 7d worth of running needs to work a lot
Yuk, oh well atleast it is a different style minion for palli, and since they already have some good legendaries, not the end of the world
Silence incoming
If this could not be targeted by spells and hero powers it probably be more viable.
well.. maybe you could adapt a minion to get the effect. Furthermore, if the enemy has to save his silence for this card, you are protecting your minions that were targeted in the first place (they usually silence the spiked rhino targeted minions). I would say that is a good card overall.
Surely has potential. Could work in good buff decks. Imagine the Stegodons XD
