This card scares me a lot, so powerful and literally impossible to play around very similar to primordial glyph,
like the potential for removal and tempo is high and worst case scenario its a yeti. Mages have nothing to lose by playing this and if its taken full advantage of, well gg mate,. I really like this card 🙂 !!
Arena 3/5
Standard 5/5
Who else is triggered by the card text of Leyline Manipulator? “If you are holding any cards that didn’t start in your deck, reduce their cost by 2”. The Hearthstone design team literally spent hours talking about the wording of cards and then they come with a text like that!? First I get triggered by the redundancy of the conditional subclause, since there is no mechanic that differentiates between an activation of an empty effect and no activation of an effect. Secondly, “their” is not defined and should not be understood if you have some principles!
The effect of this card must include, “if you played an elemental the last turn”, it is too much good with the new upgrade object and the another similar effects (babling book, the elemental 2/1, discover and reduce the cost 2 of a spell, discover an elemental), with 2 of these cards not only have the ability sinergy but the elemental sinergy. And there are a lot of more possible options. Cost 1 less that the rogue minion 5/6 , moreover his effect is better because you have a wider pool of cards.
I’m not convinced you’d want to slot this into an Exodia Mage deck – that has a very specific win condition and you generally do it as one massive series of drops right at the end when the mana cost reduction wouldn’t really be relevant (as the Apprentices do that for you).
However, there’s synergy with Shimmering Tempest in an Elemental Mage deck here and Primordial Glyph is such a good card you might run it anyway – so that’s a potential 4 mana reduction.
Cabalist’s Tome could find a place – extra spells are good, extra spells with mana cost reduction 2 are obviously better. Could fuel a Mana Wyrm if you pull it late or an Arcane Artificer.
Then there’s Sindragosa (the Legendaries drawn when the Frozen Champions die) or even Frozen Clone at a push…
There’s definitely potential here – but even without the synergy to hand you’re not going to be too upset if you have to drop this on the board on turn 4.
well u can lower cost of aprentists created by simulacrum by 2 wich mean u can play in one turn 1 aprentist for 2 mana 2 for 3 mana 1 molten reflection for 1 mana and antonidas for 7 mana
welll is that better to play quest? i dont now
This is actually the unfair version of Ethereal Peddler not only is it cheaper but it interacts with ANY card that didn’t start in your deck (Unlike “from your opponent’s class”) on top of that Mage already has plenty of crazy combo potentials
At this point Mage can pull off the infinite fireballs combo without the Timewarp
Set up turn: double Simulacrum + Leyline Manipulator = two 0 cost Apprentices
Combo turn: 3 apprentices for 2 mana and spend 1 more mana for molten reflection (3 mana spent for 4 apprentices) slam down Antonides play a secret and fireball face for infinite
Of course is this countered by dirty rat but I’m sure there are more combo potentials
That’s a more scary combo than the current Exodia Mage deck as you don’t have to pray that Cabalist’s Tome doesn’t lump you with Greater Arcane Missiles or Glacial Mysteries.
It’s still a 5 or 6 card combo but _should_ be more reliable as you don’t have to build around the conditions imposed by the quest… nice! … or horrible, depending on your perspective 😉
Its certainly cheaper than the typical Exodia Mage because it requires one less legendary card
Also I forgot to mention when Cabalist’s Tome rotates out Quest Mage will be a lot more weaker
So you can replace the Quest with Leyline Manipulator (since it accomplishes the same thing more reliably) and you can replace Cabalist’s Tome with Aluneth for the card draw if you build your deck around it
well u now u can play antonidas BEFORE slaming molten reflection? 😀 u need no more cards
Any cards that didnt start in your deck? Both minions and spell? All minions from simulacrum, Frozen cone, summoning portal get reduces as well?
So you saying it may be posible to combo without quest maby? you get2 free aprentists from simulacrum and play one normaly… molten reflection for 1 mana and well you have 7 mana for antonidas? O.O that is scary stuff nowing that you have quest as backup on top of that …. ok now im scared
it’s actually pretty good. Chillwind yeti is already a decent card, but this has an upside and the elemental tag.
It’s like the Golakka Crawler upgrade to River croc. Better in everyway over the river croc.
Except maybe for peoples opinions on card art
This card just disappoints me. First the spellstone and now this. Why is blizzard pushing the spell generation, elemental mage? If it becomes a tier 1 deck, it will be so frustrating to play against.
then if you already have the fact that mages spells being spells don’t interact with the opponent’s board, and there going to have time warp, and the antonidas combo and the ice block chain (discounted) with stonehill defender and cabalist and all that crap, then mage already has the most efficient midrange cards, and will spam your face for a million damage. What a fun meta this will be, ether that or risacus priest clear your board every second to then machine gun you’re face into oblivion, or be completely out tempoed by druid, or out valued by worlock and out tempoed at the same time, where does hunter fit into this it has no support at all because there supporting an archetype that doesn’t work, there not willing to give taunts or healing, there not willing to support a tracking type hunter and there support for secret hunter is lackluster and there never supporting face hunter, so what are they doing, are the last hunter cards just blanks. Hearthstone was already becoming less fun, this may kill it.
Face hunter is one of the unhealthiest decks for hearthstone and one of the most frustrating ones to play against. The Heropower doesn’t allow to you yo come back into the game and it’s very hard to interact with. The actual meta isn’t even that bad. You do have some strong decks but you can interact with each of them quite well and it’s fun to play. Once facehunter becomes a tier one deck, we will have an aggro only meta again and many control player trying to not play aggro willing get punished over and over again by hunters hitting face every turn. There is no challenge with playing aggro decks and not much variety and therefore I believe that the meta needs some strong control decks and doesn’t need more aggro decks. Midrange hunter have been a strong deck for ages and is still tier to so don’t be upset about hunter not getting pushed to the top.
yes and as i said in my comment blizzard is never supporting face hunter (as in of course they wouldent), and yes a vaguely midrange hunter has been somewhere between tier 2 and 3 for about 2 years but right now its tier 3 and has been for a while, i don’t know where you’re getting your info from but its tier 3 officially, it has no character no reason to play it, no current archetypes that blizzard is supporting, and thats what im saying, the big hunter has been going for a while but it likely won’t work its not what hunter wants, they either want some kind of deathrattle beast hunter, secret hunter, some kind of value construct your hand type deck or midrange, and none of them are receiving support and as i said they’re not even giving them good control tools like taunt or heal or armour or mass removal, i would be happy if hunter was tier2 but now it may go into tier 4 with the ridiculous push blizzard is doing to current decks.
What do you mean hunter is “officially” tier 3? There is no official tier list. HSreplay.net’s tier list (the only one I know of backed by publicly available data) puts it at mid-tier 2.
Well unofficial from a collection of data tells you tier 3 and from my experience that definitely seems to be the case, whatever way you spin it, it’s weak.
thx blizzard
(sarcasm overflow)
so if you have coin on hand, thats a 2 mana 4/5 SeemsGooG
MuchBalance SoWow VerySkill
hahahaha doesn’t work like that mate
after I wrote, I realized that, just the site doesn’t allow to edit/delete my comment lul #rtfc
feels bad man
Coach: Alright Leyline, you’re up!
Chillwind Yeti: But Coach, what about me? I’m still good value for 4 mana. I wanna get me some action!
Coach: Not anymore kid. I got someone waaay better than you now.
Leyline: Yeah Chill, why don’t you let the big boys handle this.
Chillwind: I hate you.
Leyline: I AM you.
River Crocolisk: Chill? why are you here?
Chill: I got replaced by someone better…
River Crocolisk: I know the feel Bro. Don’t fret, Sometimes they still call on us randomly. The new guys never last more than a season.
Note that Leyline manupulator also reduces the cost of kazakus potions and taunt minions you get from a stonehill defender
This card is obviously bunkers, but this is a really poor design from blizzard.
Nothing good can come out of a deck based on RNG on that level, in the best case it could be mildly annoying.
It amazes me how much of a problem people have with understanding the text of cards.
I’m not sure but it seems like you can Exodia in just 1 turn without Quest :
– Step 1 : Original Girl + Simulacrums/Zola the Gorgon = 2 new Girls
– Step 2 : Play this card so they cost 0
– Step 3 : Antonidas + 2 girls + 2 Moten = Infinity fireballs
so over two turns?
I mean, in the same way that dropping thaurisan to discount a combo was a 2 turn combo. Its 2 turns in the sense that it requires preparation, but you play all of the required combo pieces and the kill on one turn.
If that is what will happen in the meta, the apprentices will get hammered by the nerf hammer when the next expansion is about to arrive
Wow, so not only did mage get a cheaper cabalist tome, but now they have a 4 mana steady elemental to support it. Well then.
10/10
A 4 mana 4/5 is already the best body for a card with no penalty. There are so many mage cards that synergize with this one; both on the elemental side and with its battlecry. Notice that it reduces all types of cards, not just spells. Mage has so many ways to make use of the battlecry, with powerful examples such as Primordial Glyph, Cabalist Tome and Servant of Kalimos. Everything about this card works in the favor of a Mage, and in any elemental list, there’s no reason not to run at least one copy.
OUT OF MY JUNGLE
CRYSTALS, FRESH FROM KAZAKUS
So many sick combos with this. Best yeti.
Mage’s Ethereal Peddler. Seems really good, considering how easy the Quest is to complete and how many good cards give random spells (Spellstone, Cabalist Tome, etc. [Literally :D]). Plus it’s an Elemental; perfect with the Spellstone!
Also you can do some fun shenanigans with Antonidas if you drop him with a bunch of low-cost spells like Freezing Potion, coins from Burgly Bully, or drop a Sorceror’s Apprentice and spam 1-drop spells too (Spare Parts ring a bell? :D). Then drop two of this guy (or Brann plus this guy in wild) and you got a bunch of 0-cost Fireballs. Technically you need 5 fireballs to bring face from 30 to 0, but depending on the length of the game you may already have 6+ damage already on face (or they may be above 30 Health, which is completely possible). How viable is this compared to the Quest Exodia? Probably a bit less viable as it loses against Fatigue Warrior with a bunch of armor (and the occasional Quest Priest who manages to stay above 30 Health), but doesn’t get as screwed by, say, Dörty Rat or Gnomeferatu (Howlfiend plus Treachery still scawy tho).
Wow. I’m a mage player and this expansion is seeing lots of Jaina love. I like how the cards support multiple archetypes – exodia, tempo, DK – looking good!
all this can mean is an uninteractive rng bassed metta, how is that good?
This works really well in a deck with the new spellstone.
– Elemental
– Vanilla stats (chillwind yeti)
– 4 attack (priest)
– Superb effect
Even if you don’t use the battlecry, this card is good, works as an elemental yeti. Now if you reduce the cost of at least one card, thats PogChamp value.
This is going directly into my elemental control mage deck. Might even have to add cabalist tomes in now for the pure pressure you can apply in one turn.
It also synergizes with primordial glyph which is in almost all mage decks.
The trouble is keeping this alive until you actually use those cards. Corpse Widow lets you reduce things that started in the deck. But it’s on curve!
I don’t quite see the point of keeping this alive to get discounts cause it’s a battlecry, not a continuous effect…
surely the cards stay cost reduced even when the card dies?
its a battlecry
It’s a battlecry, it will reduce the cost of cards you have the moment this minion enters the battlefield, no need to keep it alive.
Since it’s a battlecry, i think it’ll work similar to Ethereal Peddler, and permanently reduce the cost of those cards in your hand, rather than only while this is on the board
