Lesser Mithril Spellstone Card Review
We already saw the Shaman spellstone last week and looking at this, you sort of immediately draw a parallel to it. For 7 mana you get to summon a pile of stats… however, typically, a vanilla creature that is simply Power/Toughness is not worth playing. Yes, eventually you will be able to summon a total of 15/15 worth of stats spread across three bodies for 7 mana. At first glance that seems really good, but… is it really? Sometimes it will be enough to break the opponent who has either run out of removal or simply cannot contest the sheer bulk of your minions, but often times you can do much crazier things for the effort you put into upgrading and playing the Spellstone. Keep in mind that typically, Warrior decks play no more than 4 weapons and even with our preview card from KTF, Forge of Souls, it’s going to take a lot of patient setup to upgrade. Weapons tend to be really good as early as possible, meaning you will most often want to play them in the early game, when theoretically you don’t want to have Mithril Spellstone in hand. If you keep it, then for the first 7 turns of the game you are playing with 1 card less than the opponent, whereas if you toss it back, you might not draw it in time to see you play the weapon. It is a lose-lose situation most of the time you try to go for a big Spellstone, which in the end won’t even be a good play if you are under pressure. Though, to be fair, it is an excellent play if you aren’t.
There is one really exciting possibility, though, which must not be overlooked. With Dead Man's Hand you can shuffle the Greater Mithril Spellstone into your deck and start generating infinite threats that way, while also being able to play another card alongside it, for instance a Shield Block, Bring It On! or something along those lines. Whether or not that’s optimal remains to be seen, but it’s not very likely, given that current builds of Dead Man's Hand decks want to simply outlast you without worrying too much about generating threats.
Card Review by Chimbarozo
I’ve been running one of these with fibonacci’s control deck, which already has 2 blood razors plus 1 DK weapon (by the way the spellstone does upgrade when you play the DK) and it’s pretty alright. Two golems on turn 7 is common
this will be ultra op, Dead man’s hand shuffling infinite 7 mana 15/15, rip late game decks.
I think this card will be very usefull. Easy to have 3 5/5 on board
Another useless spell stone! F*ck Blizzard in you want make a card good MAKE IT!
STOP printing “fun” cards that see no competitive play!
Example: You could make this card like –
1. Summon one 5/5 Mithril Golem. Gain 5 Armor (Equip a weapon to upgrade.)
2. Summon two 5/5 Mithril Golems. Gain 10 Armor (Equip a weapon to upgrade.)
3. Summon three 5/5 Mithril Golems. Gain 10 Armor and three durability to weapon equipped !
As much as that would be really good replacement it would probably cost something like 10 mana overload 10 discard your hand.
if all cards were super, than none of them would be super 🙂
I can see this card making spell warrior more viable. If Medivh triggers it then you can easily get Atesh, play the spellstone, get at least 1 5/5 golem and a 7-cost minion. It also means that the Lesser version of the spellstone has a chance of being gotten by the Tortallan Primalist, as well as any other effects that let warrior discover a card.
3x 5/5 sweet spot over 4 damage flamstrikecool
COUGH DRAGONFIRE COUGH
A 7 mana 15/15 minion split in three, not bad. Even the second one is good.
This is So easy to activate it is basically always summon three five fives for 7 and I think we should judge it based on that. Not broken by any means but definitely not garbage.
Can’t rate the card yet, if the 5/5 are just blank with no text this card is probably too slow, but if they have taunt that’s a whole other story. Love the design on this one (and the other spellstones too) and can’t wait to try it out.
(rating it later when we see the 5/5)
7 mana for 10/10 status is slow?
Will this Spellstone upgrade if you get a weapon from N’Zoth’s first mate?
Since it says equip i guess it does, if it said play it wouldn’t. However nothing has been confirmed yet so we’ll have to wait and see.
Since N’Zoth’s First Mate litterally reads “Equip a 1/1 Weapon”, I suppose it matches the trigger effect.
It equips a 1/3 weapon, not a 1/1
