they should add a minion like: “3 mana 3/4 – discard a rnd card from your hand, when you use your heropower”

I am really amazed by the fact nobody mentioned how fun it might be to play a discolock deck with Death Wing ! Right now DW is almost playable (because of jade decks) but the drawbacks (mana cost and dicard mechanism) is just to much to handle, but it synergizes extremely well with the discolock archetype with this massive board clear and insane Tempo (silverware golem and the quest completion). I will defenetly try this if can’t get ether the quest or Zavas in my 1st Packs.

In discard zoolock deathwing is unplayable because you will discard it every time and so you have anti synergy because you can’t empty your hand before you play it. Better play death wing in ramp druid! E. g. Cthun druid.

I don’t think this card is for zoo – wasting your turn one is never a great idea, and 6 discards I think are too much to end the game early enough. That said, Discozoo can easily be a great deck, just not with this, I think. In a midrage-ish Discolock, however, this is a win condition. 6/4 on your bord for free automatically is comparable to Jaraxxus, just without the drawbacks (15 health, destroy demon spell etc). Though to make it work, Warlock needs a self-heal card with discard synergy I think, which is not likely to happen.

Can you discard the quest accidentally?

there’s just now way to judge this card until you play it.

it’s either a permanent fixture in zoo… or it will see no play at all.

Can you silence the portal? They said it’s impossible to “remove” but silence leaves it there. 😀

I don’t think it can be targeted.

Pretty sure it behaves exactly as the Medivahs or the other special Tavern Brawl Cards, where you couldn’t interact with them whatsoever, and they didn’t even count as Cards, but they DID take 1 spot on the field.

Can you silvanus the portal away?

      I doubt it.

I doubt it. And I doubt it even more since Sylvannas is now wild thus providing you with fewer chances of witnessing this occurance in battle

These new Quest cards are really beautiful. New mechanics with a lot of potential.
I have a question: is there any possibility for the opponent to remove the Nether Portal?

No, it’s permanent and can’t be removed.

I hope there is only 1 way of getting quest – by drowing it at the start of the match coz discovering or randomizing them without option to fulfill them would suck

Yes, the Quest card is always included in your starting hand. But, you have the option to mulligan them away if you want to.

I think he’s asking if you can discover the quests out of things like babbling book (for mage), or Dark Peddler for this card. If you could, though, what if you were to peddler the quest turn 2 after already having played it, could you get 2 portals out of it? 6/4 on the board every turn would be fun

You can’t get any Quest card from cards like Babbling Book or Dark Peddler.

This card REALLLLLY powerful in zoolock, in addition with the other 4 mana 3/8 taunt. In zoo lock, you have a lot of cheap cards that have the discard effect. So therefore, you could get the portal out as early as turn 5 or 6, and summoning a 6/5 worth stats everyturn for the rest of game is extremely difficult to counter, since you pretty can’t lose tempo, unless you’re opponent floods the board and clears yours. Even at this stage, this card could help zoolock can quickly control the board again without using mana. Also, keeping this card in your hand on turn 1 isn’t exactly bad. Sure, it makes your hand weaker, but life tap completely makes up for that when your hand is relatively empty.

This card could even make zoolock more midrange and better against control decks, instead of competing with pirates for aggro dominance and getting crushed by board clears and removal.

        Agreed!

I feel like they are trying to make the meta more midrange, and disco lock is certainly getting pushed there with the cards they’ve posted.

I hope the meta shifts to be variable rather than all out face or all out control

Hey Evident, I have a couple of questions (totally fine if you don’t know.)

Does the portal count as a minion for Sea Giant’s cost reduction?

Can you copy the portal with Faceless Manipulator?

    • Evident - Author
      March 17, 2017 at 1:50 PM

I don’t know either for sure, but I’d guess you wouldn’t be able to copy it with Faceless. Sea Giant I would say it doesn’t count, but I might be wrong. I’m thinking it’s going to count as an enchantment rather than a minion.

The portal is an “enchantment”, not a minion…. I’d assume it would not be copyable or count towards a minion count…

i’m curious to know if it takes up a minion spot, or if it will just be off to the side of the game board

I think it wont even be on the board, it will be some visual change like priests Shadow Form

It’s on the board, you can see it in the video above.

I’m just going to put this question here, so anyone (like Toast), who likes to experiment with cards would consider it:
I’m very curious if the portal could work like the Enigmatic Portal in the brawl “The Dark Wanderer” – if you remember there was a possibility to become the cow king with sylvanas being shadow flamed; so my question is “Can you steal the nether portal with sylvanas?” (i know she’ll be in wild by that time)

      • zachary
        March 17, 2017 at 5:41 PM

the portal isnt a minion, its more like a enchantment from mtg, so i dont think so. This also applies to Sherazin, seed i believe.

ops, it’s when you said it i had to look at the Enigmatic Portal, yup so that was a minion and that’s why it could be stolen with sylvanas; pitty though, it would be hilarious to see the nether portal being stolen

Like, it’s an interesting card, I would love to see this in play, but I’m kinda sceptical about it. We need to see the other warlock cards to judge this card, hopefully the devs have added more, which synergize with this mechanic, but here comes this “but”.
I personally like to play more controlish decks and always wanted to see a disco control warlock. The problem is – you will discard your resources and you cannot chose which cards will be discarded (maybe the new warlock legendary will have this ability), so you can lose your AOE or a powerful minion. As a more agressive deck-type – well, I’m also kinda sceptical about it. Although 6 cards may not be that much, the 5 mana cost for the nether portal is too much, I mean too slow. Normally agressive decks tend to build a big board earlier and end the game faster. You have to wait a few turns to get your value out of this card.
I acknowledge the fact that when you play twisting nether or you opponent (let’s say mage) plays an AOE you will still have a board, but i think that small tokens against mid decks or against jade are rather weak.

5 mana just to summon 2 3/2s isnt even that bad
anything after the first turn is ridiculous.

I agree, in the current state control-based decks can’t play discard: they rely too much on their resources, and discarding crucial cards is too much of a risk. I also enjoy slower decks, but the discard mechanic just doesn’t make much sense in a control deck. Also, i feel that playing a quest is too slow for an aggro deck. They would lose their turn 1 play, which puts them behind on board (or they use the coin, but then they’re automatically behind because they’re going second), and they usually want to be playing cards on turn 5 and on to finish the game; the portal is a much slower way of winning.

This being said, could mid-ranged discard-lock become a thing, which uses both Malchezar’s Imp and later game control-ish cards, and can utilize the quest and portal?

A nice edition to discard zoo warlock.
