Lab Recruiter Card Review
Gang Up on a stick? And not just any stick, on a 3/2 minion. For the same mana cost. Given that Gang Up was already a solid card in Mill strategy, at the first glance this just screams broken. However, we need to remember that Coldlight Oracle is no longer available in Standard, and it was the only reason why Gang Up was ever good, so a card like Lab Recruiter MIGHT exist and not break the game… or it might do it anyway. We’ve just got a Baleful Banker last expansion, but it appears that it wasn’t strong enough. Weaker stats, shuffles one instead of 3. It’s actually pretty funny that a card so much stronger than the Banker was printed right away.
In Standard, the best use of this card will be to shuffle more copies of your win condition back into your deck. What you want to shuffle probably depends on the deck itself. For example, in Miracle Rogue, you might want to shuffle three more Fal'dorei Striders or maybe even 3x Leeroy Jenkins – because why not.
In Burgle Rogue, it can be played on Tess Greymane – you can combo those two on Turn 10. Since Tess is the best card in your deck and basically your main win condition (other than the weapon), having 3 more copies in your deck definitely won’t hurt.
Another interesting use for this card is to simply go infinite. Play Lab Recruiter on your Lab Recruiter – shuffle 3 more into the deck, repeat. This is nowhere near on the level of Jade Idol, of course, but it might still come handy sometimes. You actually don’t even have to go infintie – just adding three strong minions into your deck will prevent fatigue for 3 extra turns and give you more fuel to finish the game (like after playing Myra's Unstable Element).
I disagree with a common voice that this is going to matter in Quest Rogue. I mean, sure, it MIGHT see play in Quest Rogue, but it’s not going to matter that much. Even if you shuffle 3 more copies of a card you’re bouncing into your deck, you might not even draw them by the time you finish the Quest. Remember that your goal is to get the Quest done by turn 6-8 depending on the matchup. Not to mention that it might be a bit clunky to play without Shadowstep – like, you can’t just play a minion you bounce + this on Turn 3-4, because then your opponent will kill that minion and you might not draw the extra copies in time, leaving you with nothing to bounce (you would have to switch to something else, most likely). Now, in the best case scenario, this can finish the Quest really quickly, but it will heavily depend on the luck, which is not really something Quest Rogue wants. It wants consistency.
It’s a really interesting card, and one with lots of potential. I’m 99% sure that it will see play in the Wild. When it comes to the Standard, however, it’s more difficult to rate. Right now there are no obvious, obnoxious combos you can pull off, but I’m sure that players will find something. This card has a massive potential and even if it won’t be played in The Boomsday Project, it most likely will a few expansions from now.
Card rating: 9/10
It’s called Lab RECRUITER but puts stuff INTO your deck. Literally unplayable.
Cast Gang Up an da summon a 3/2, all for the cost of casting a Gang Up. Neat.
Since it isn’t a spell – it wouldn’t work in a barnes, y’shaarj combo deck.
However I geuss that is irrelevant…
What about this on ragnaros, shadowstep, recruiter again on ragnaros. Next turn dollmaster dorian + myra’s, then pass and whatch the show:
Die insect!
Die insect!
Die insect!
Die insect!
Die insect!
Die insect!
Yes coldlight oracle rotated out preventing this card to be a wincondition on its own. If there was a game mode where you could play coldlight oracle with this card andbank in some free wins. And if you could put gang up and copy the enemy priests amara it gets even more fun, if you think that 2 amaras make the game last forever imagine a deck full of endless streams of amaras. Or n’zoths. IF you think kingsbane rogue was broken in wild. Just wait what this new expansion will do to the format.
i think this is something priests should be getting. After all they are al labout cloning. and it would give priest some chance againts mill decks. Control priest has always been an auto loss againts mill rogues.
Yay tess might be good.
Gang Up was a tempo loss, so this is a VERY NICE upgrade. Also synergizes very well with the new Legendary Rogue Spell, since it will put stuff in your deck to prevent Fatigue damage. I’m already seeing how Miracle will overwhelm control decks: play Mira. Next turn Leeroy + this card. This means one extra Leeroy every turn for the next 3 turns. Alternatively, you can go infinite with 2 of these guys (play one, play the second on this one), although Rogue is not the best card for value. There’s probably other very useful combos, in Wild it’s obvious you can copy Patches and get 3 more in play almost immediately, although since the nerf a Patches without Charge is much less powerful. In Arena this is also a great value generator for your big minions, great play on curve without a 1-drop in play, and you don’t need to fill your deck with big minions to win the long game, just with a few. 4.5/5 stars for this card.
more spiders, more zola, vile spine, everything is getting worse, endless aggro, this whats happens in rogues deck,
Been missing gang up in standard for a while, excited about the potential for reloads. Unstable element, draw your deck, reload it with something powerful that you will drop every turn with this and baleful banker and Zola. Definitely excited to mess around with that.
Rogue’s new Gang Up on legs
Wow what a strong card. It’s like gang up sort of, but now being able to use DK Valera with it makes it crazy. Potentially 12 copies of something in deck? Good bye fatigue.
A ~3.5x better baleful banker that is a common. Nuff said.
the funny part its only a common ,if this card was a legendary i wouldnt be surprised but its a common XD. i dont understand blizzard sometimes.
This card is so broken people are going to complain about it and im pretty sure its gonna get nerfed sooner or later. this card makes Baleful Banker looks shitty
i like call this gangup big bro this is insane imagine cast this on charges battlecrys or SPIDER DUDE AND ITS BATTLECRY NOT COMBO YAY 5/5
Obviously this card will be insane in wild and probably still pretty good in standart, but we have yet to see what other cards rogue will get.
However I think this card will be a HUGE buff to Rogue in Arena. You can play this on turn 2 because it has good stats or, if you draw it later and you have any lategame minion on the board, you can put 3 more copies of it into your deck.
In arena gaining three copies of a solid minion can singlehandedly win the game so this is absolutely insane. Also because of it being common and the occurrence Bonus new expansions get, expect this to be in about every rogue arena deck.
Last time i checked every good arena minion isnt hot stuff at a turn you have the 2 more mana to play this along the good card. And on a turn after playing the good minion, they have either already removed it or you’re already winning 9 times out of 10 because they couldnt answer your 1 strong card. Its a superfluous win more card in arena that you dont want to play at times because screw suffling in your turn 1 dire mole or turn 3 3/3 when you this + dagger on 4. That said just being a 5 stats for 2 mana with usually weak eff is fine in arena
This is largely fine. Cheap, well-stated minions are always welcome in rogue. However, outside of Wild applications with Coldlight oracle, I can’t see what a rogue would really want to hit with this card. Whatever it does hit would be easy to find with Elven Minstrel, but it’s still a functional vanilla 3/2 for all of the effect on the board it has when played.
Well this is going to be broken
In an aggro matchup? 3/2 on two works
In a control matchup? Have 6 more cards of whatever minion you want in your deck
Seems good 4.5/5, only because I see Control rogue crashing and burning as it usually does
im big rogue fan but i agreed with you friend the body must be weakend turn it to 2/2 but do this after nerfing daMn DK guldan
Card is obviously great. The most powerful strat for it I see in standard right know are Faldorei Strider/Shadowstep and this card – Shenangigans. What do you think?
This card will be good with Tess. You can use it on blink foxes and even on tess the same turn you played her. It’s low cost makes it a great card.
This… also with valeera DK. You have unlimited cards.
To infinity and beyond!
well there’s an op 2 drop
This is the rogue legendary minion disguised as a common
Save my words , this card is gonna make the wild mill rogue with coldlights, deathlords, sledbelchers and nzoth the strongest deck in this expansion for sure.
I. hate. that. deck.
faling love with it XD
and the obvious boost to quest rouge 🙂
Literally Gang Up with a body minus the spell tag. I love this card. If only Coldlight didn’t rotate out ;-;
Has some cool synergies with Myra’s. Refilling your deck after using Myra’s is an interesting concept, and I completely forgot about the potential with Gang Up in wild when theorycrafting Myra’s. But now that I think about it, using Myra’s with Quest and Lab Recruiter could be interesting with copying a draw mechanic.
Besides Mill, I don’t remember any other Standard deck which played Gang Up. I tried a couple in wild with Arcane Giant miracle flooding the board in one turn with gang up and cycling into more giants, and I also did some Jade Rogue which copied Jade Spirit and Aya to maximize the ramp-up potential of the deck. Besides those, idk. With newfound cards, an interesting idea would’ve been using this to copy weapon buff cards for Kingsbane after rushing through your deck with a potential Myra’s to compensate for the burned buffs.
Also has some fun potential with Brann in wild. I reckon Dane’s gonna have a field day with experimentation with this lol.
It’s worth mentioning that Gang Up could shuffle enemy minions.
Nonetheless, Lab Recruiter is a very cool card!
Good note! Although I only really have needed to do that in the occasional Mill mirror match where they throw down Coldlight before I draw it. But it IS something to note nonetheless. Of course, 99% of the time the copy mechanic should be used on YOUR minions to maximize synergies and consistency… But nice catch!
This card is probably a 5 star card for wild and a 3 star for standard. I wanna use it in kings-bane in standard. In wild I am gonna be running a C’thun/mill deck i made a ways back just gonna swap this for the gang ups. Over all I love this card and will be running it when I see it fitting.
just remembered that spell that draws the deck this helps you not mill your self just play it on it’s self with either two copies or via death knight.
This seems like a solid 2 drop. Standard stats with an ability that fits most rogue decks quite well. With powerful draw engines like Gadgetzan, Sprint, Myra’s Unstable Element, and Elven Minstrel, it’s easy to shuffle useful cards back into your deck and then pull them out. Not a great play on turn 2, but I can imagine this finding a niche somewhere.
Moar infinite mill rogue options
