This card sucks hard. First of all, Infuse 8 is a lot: for this to work on 7, you gotta keep it in the mulligan, meaning you have to accept the fact that you will have to play with 1 card less for most of the game only to have a good 7 mana play. And sure, you can play this with Infuse 4 as well, but is it really worth it at that point? Not to mention that this is an awful topdeck as well. And also, shall I say it outright? If you get to play this turn 7 with Infuse 8 is good, but it’s not game winning. Basically every control deck has a way to remove such as that, and if it becomes popular they will also know to keep a board clear for it. All in all, feels like a dead card to me.

So I’ve been really down on Infuse as a mechanic because generally speaking it’s just so restrictive a mechanic to enable. The effects of Infuse are almost always VERY good, but too hard to enable to justify running them.

However…after seeing pretty much the rest of Hunter’s new tools, I’m coming around to specifically THIS CARD as a nice finisher/late game push. If you run the Wildseed package: 2x 2/2, 2x deal 3 damage, 2x summon 2 seeds & accelerate the timer on your seeds, and 1x the other legendary, you get a ton of minions to start throwing at your opponent’s board; which, if this is in your hand somewhere around turn 4 or 5, should eventually buy you enough time & give you a fully infused Altimor.

I think Altimor is going to largely be best used after you’ve played Tavish and start hero powering, but 7 mana “Army in a Can” cards will often be strong enough. I think there’s legitimate potential here, going to give this a 4.

The problem is not how to get the infuse count, the problem lies with getting the card, and hold it in your hand until you have 8 friendly minions killed.
Dead card is bad. Worse if you actually get this card late.

That’s a lot of infusing that needs to be done. I want to be optimistic, because if you manage to infuse this to its full potential, it’s really good, but that’s a big ask.

    3/5

Hydralodon on turn 7, on turn 8 this infused 2 times and it is easy game. Why would someone rate it lower than 3/5?

Just play on curve perfectly every game 4Head. Hunter doesn’t have enough draw to get this card in hand consistently and it has to ROT in your hand for a long time to get all of those infuses. This card needs to be Infuse(4) to be PLAYABLE and even then it is still just an “okay” stat bomb.

Hydralodon itself with no set up is better than the Infuse (4) version of this card because he vomits more stats that consistently impact the board.

For real infuse 4 is so hard for you as a Hunter?
Hunter has enough draw to make this card useful and we still didnt see other cards from the set. Usually Blizzard doesnt print legendaries without any support, so rating this card low just because there are “not enough card draw” is stupid.

Why didn’t they call them just animal companions? Is there something i miss or are those just the same effects for a different name and art?

The gargon companions fit the theme of the character much more, but yeah, I suppose they’re the same as animal companions.

I think I heard this somewhere that they actually missed/forgot creating unique animal companion for Tavish the hunter mercenary. Because I assume the old animal companions is unique to Rexxar only (Misha, Huffer, Leokk).
Hence they created the new one right now. Better suited the theme and character.

This card is so though to rate.

A animal companion with a 5/4 body is 2/5, two animal companions with a 5/4 body 4/5, three animal companions with a 5/4 body is pretty broken 5/5.

There was a spell in hunter which summoned all three for 8/9 mana. So every single animal companion are around 3 mana worth.

But infuse 8 minions can be really though, we have to wait for the other cards maybe there is a spell or minion that summon a lot of minions with rush or something else.

Maybe with rat package or with naga aggro package, we will see.

Ehhh. Without the Infuse, it’s just mediocre. With it, it can be pretty good, but that’s Infuse (4) and (8) respectively, meaning this must stick dead in your hand for quite a while. Not really impressed with it.
