Seems really bad in standard. What’s it going to buff? Highmane, Sylvanas, or Cairne is about it. Webspinner, Haunted Creeper, Mad Scientist, and Shredder are gone,

This card seems okay in Wild, but is highly unlikely to see play in my opinion given how strong Midrange Hunter is without this card. You are likely to get a buff (or several), but I’m not even sure how good it is compared to alternatives. Might be played in a purely deathrattle Hunter.

This card also have bad stats and is not a beast, which is a huge downside for Kill Command and Houndmaster synergy, two staples in midrange.

Hunter needs more cards that will make midrange viable in standard, seeing as Midrange Hunter will be one of the most heavily impacted by the rotation, losing almost half of their cards. Call of the Wild is an excellent start, but it needs more.

I’ve played Dragon Hunter in the past mainly for giggles, but this card might actually make it more than just a novelty.

First, I’m just going to say that no, Dragon Hunter is not garbage. It’s a variation of Midrange that uses a few Dragons that give good value in order to enable Corruptor and Technician. I used Alex, Nefarian and Azure Drakes and found them pretty sufficient.

But why would this card help the deck? Chillmaw. Also Deathwing, Dragonlord, but it’s already a 12/12, a 13/13 isn’t a big step up there. The card makes Chillmaw a 7/7/7 Taunt, which isn’t bad but isn’t really good enough to justify running it over Boom. 7/7/7 Taunt Deathrattle: Deal 3 Damage to all minions, though, is pretty good. So the deck has a very good control-based option, but that option needs some Dragons to be good. There are plenty of Dragons that just give good value, even in Hunter, so why not run them? Azure Drake, Alex, Nefarian, Dragonlord. There’s 5. And a 4/3/6 Taunt is pretty good, so why not run Twilight Guardian too? The deck likes value minions, and a 3/3/5 is pretty good there. Why not add Technician? If your curve allows it, a 5-cost Fire Elemental with slightly worse stats is great, you could add Corruptor if you wanted. Corruptor and Guardian are also Dragons, so they can enable your other cards.

From that list alone, you have 9 Dragons, 7 cards that benefit off Dragons and a late-game win condition for matchups that go that long. Since there’s a lot of overlap between those categories, those cards are condensed into only 11 cards, and you don’t have to use ALL of them if you don’t want to. You could even run different big dragons, or more, or less if you only wanted Alex OR Nefarian.

Let’s say you do use all 11, plus two Forlorn Stalker . That’s still 17 slots that you can fill to round out your curve, and you have no 6-drops yet. Why not Thaurissan and Highmane in that slot? That’s 3 more filled, so 14 slots left for your other stuff. Zombie Chow, Mad Scientist, Webspinner, Infested Tauren, Harvest Golem, Leper Gnome, Creeper… All potential options, all Deathrattle to benefit from this card. Throw in Eaglehorn and some Traps, the deck probably won’t be half bad.

The only real downside is a lot of those are leaving in Standard, so you’d have to look to different stuff for a Standard deck. Not saying there aren’t good options in Standard too, but a lot of great ones will be gone. Chillmaw and all the Dragon stuff will still be in Standard though, so the deck as a whole should still be a possible thing. I most definitely will at least try it.

Corruptor is not a dragon, my bad. Will definitely still do this though.

    Brann combo? why not?

It would be a deck mixing deathrattle and battlecry synergies so neither theme would be very strong. You certainly could, but you’d probably be better without brann.

Bro, good deathrattle rogue decks use brann for lethal combos and for mounted raptor shenanigans in general. It would work in hunter as well, it’s just a very late game idea. Come to think of it, 6 mana to give everything +2/+2 isn’t too bad for midrange either, just depends on if you have the time to pull it off.

Deathrattle rogue uses brann, as you said, as a combo piece. There is no combo currently that can make this card instantly kill the opponent. Holding these two cards to cast on turn 6 to give at most 3, probably closer to 1 minion +2/+2 would best be discribed as “cute” with no other reason to have brann in the deck. You might as well just have another deathrattle minion to potentially buff with this guy.

    Turn 3: Forlorn Stalker
    Turn 4: Infested Tauren 3/4
    Turn 5: Corrupted Healbot 7/7
    Turn 6: Savanah Highmane 7/6
    Turn 7: Chillmaw 7/7

    Good luck losing board control.

Why the actual hell would you play corrupted healbot and chillmaw in a hunter deck?

      • Loco
        April 16, 2016 at 5:54 PM

Probably because there are Hunter decks besides Face?

Midrange would love a 5 mana 6/6 and the deathrattle doesn’t hurt it too much because it’s fighting for board control, not trying to burn the opponent down as quickly as possible.

Dragon Hunter is actually not awful and plays very similarly to Midrange Hunter. It runs many of the same value plays in Eaglehorn Bow with the same Trap lineup alongside things like Savannah Highmane, but it swaps out some of the Midrange deck’s control-oriented cards for similar-costed Dragon support. You want to run Corruptor and Technician along with a handful of Dragons as well. Notable options include Azure Drake, Volcanic Drake, Twilight Guardian, Alex, Nefarian and Chillmaw. Additionally, this deck might even consider the new Deathwing card as well.

I’d say this card has the potential to make Dragon Hunter something more than just a novelty due to its ability to hit Chillmaw and Deathwing, Dragonlord, which improves them as options thereby also improving the value dragons that benefit Chillmaw AND improving cards that trigger off your dragons.

tl;dr: Dragon Hunter plays very similarly to Midrange Hunter, does not suck horribly and would definitely love to get a curve exactly like that. I’ve played it for fun in the past and done decent with it, but this card especially is going to make the deck quite decent, I think.

Even if this just hits one deathrattle its value. I dunno why everyone else is panning this, its great.

Nope, now it’s gonna be pathetically small game hunter.

You sure? You want to play a Card that buffs minions in your hand after a card that buffs minions on the field? You may do so, but the interaction between those two is kinda not there, unless I just overlooked something obvious here.

oh i just saw i your hand oh well i guess its ok, i mean i feel it would be better if it was like that because it would have some synergy but i guess its still ok

Webspinner along with most good deathrattles are gone. I dont see them adding enough usable death rattle for this card to work. Maybe in some late game with hunter with sylvanas, 2 highmanes, and a couple of the new deathrattles.

This is a must-run for Face Hunter Wild decks because it makes the Creepers and Shredders 2/3s and 5/4s for 4. Don’t think there are enough strong Deathrattle cards in Standard to really justify running atm. Closest thing to a strong deathrattle for Hunters would be Savannah in Standard. So this might be a really good Wild card with little potential in Standard decks.

This kinda makes me think they are gonna do a deathrattle legendary for hunter. This card is just so busted to be in this class otherwise. Congrats you can buff Savannah Highmane and Webspinner? There just has to be more synergy in hunter for this card to see action in the competitive meta imo.

You say that like there are no neutral deathrattle minions…

I am just saying that it would be a much better suited card for classes other than hunter. Rouge comes to mind but i also know that this would be insane in rouge deathrattle deck.

True. It seems like Blizzard likes to do this–give borderline-OP cards to classes that don’t have existing archetypes for them. 🙂
