Taste your world's corruption! It tastes like chicken.Emeriss Card Review
This is like a cruel joke. I see an awesome new, high cost Legendary with an exciting effect. And it’s a Dragon on top of that! Then I notice that it’s Hunter, not Neutral. Welp.
Hunter is like the worst class for this kind of card. It’s painfully slow, costs 10 mana, has no immediate board impact, doesn’t really synergize with Hunter play style or cards…
Yes, doubling the stats of all of the minions in your hand is very powerful. But when playing Hunter, even if the game lasts that long, you won’t likely have too many minions in your hand anyway. Even the slower Hunter lists like Kathrena Winterwisp decks rarely have that sort of staying power.
A card like that also has insane combo potential. For example, you can double Leeroy’s Attack to 12, making it a perfect set-up for even a simple combo with Faceless Manipulator. And that’s honestly the only way I could see Hunter using it – in some sort of combo deck. “Control Hunter” is not a thing and I don’t even know if Control Hunter would really want to play it anyway.
This card is super flashy and the effect is very cool, but it’s like a classic Legendary trap. You look at it, you think “INSANE VALUE”, but then you play it in game, most of the games end before you get to Turn 10. In games which don’t end pre-Turn 10, you often can’t play it if you’re under any kind of pressure, because it’s a 10 mana 8/8 that does nothing immediately. Sometimes you can’t play it, because you don’t have anything meaningful to buff (or combo pieces when you talk about a combo deck). Sometimes you play it, but your combo still doesn’t work, because your opponent sees your Emeriss and knows what’s coming. And they play Voidlord (or even better, Bloodreaver Gul'dan) and you’re screwed. It looks like one of those cards that works in 1 out of 10 games or something.
I’m not completely dismissing the possibility of Combo Hunter built around this card, but so far it looks unlikely.
Card rating: 2/10 (unless some mysterious Combo Hunter deck will be built around it, but I just can’t see it)
hunter card indeed
just opened this… fuck my luck… will dust it and craft a epic that actually matters
Lol, just opened a pack with two legendary and this one was golden. Gimme that dust!!
Disguised Toast has a wicked combo with Dire Frenzy on a 1 mana charge minion (Stonetusk Boar or Unleashed Hound), then pulling boosted copies with To’lvir Warden and Witchwood Piper.
Stitched Tracker looks for multiple Emeriss’ to double, triple, or quadruple your 1 mana charges for 16/16 or 32/32. If you survive that long, and you swing the combos, it’s astronomical.
that is one big meme mother#@$%$ right there.
i’ll definitely be taking this guy for a n00b stomp or two.
King Krush wet dream lol
Yeah, i thinked: I think i will use likely king krussh in hunter deck. WAIT! COMBINATION COMPLETE! OMG WTF!
HUNTER NEEDS a 1 mana 2 2 echo, 1 mana 2 3, 1 mana 3 3, they need something,
something better then not good enough dire mole which is a neutral. Theres a reason no other classes play dire mole because its ba. A 1 3 neutral for hunter being best 1 drop going into next expansion is basically saying you give zero fuks about hunter. Priest has cleric, mage has worm, even druid had a 1 mana 2 2 thats never even used, lock has a 3 2 and a 1 3 taunt, Paly has plenty of 1 drops, hunter has nothing. Just remove hunter add monk or something maybe that can fix hunter. Until hunter gets a 1 drop Hunter will remain in the dog house since 2015/16 3-4 years of not good. Only thing that saved hunter in recent months is barnes which is HIGHROLL, rng, spells and for hunter makes ZERO SENSE and bad for the game.
I could be wrong, and if I am PLEASE let me know. In the Un’Goro expansion Hunter got a quest that ultimately revolves around playing one drops and by playing one drops for almost the first 5-7 turns, the proud Hunters then received what I like to call “Ms.Krush” and I think we all know she basically gave hunter enough 1 drops to give Knife Juggler a wet dream. (No sarcasm what-so-ever) I really want to know why you think that Hunter has no good 1 drops after they received an entire play type that required them to play one drops that not only, fulfilled their quest but sometimes won them the game by themselves
The fact is thet theQIEST revolves around 1 drops, but one drops themselves are not good enough. In fact the Marsh Queen sucks.
Hunter is going towards a control play style. There are more than enough resources for hunter to protect itself in the early game and then use a huge combo later to win. I recently have been using a warlock deck that uses a lot of “dream combos”. It runs master oakheart, voidlord, dragonhatcher, and drakkari enchanter, but that combo doesn’t work often, so it also uses meat wagon and summoning portal. You will win if you have master oakheart turn 9, you draw meat wagon and kill it on your turn, you draw summoning portal and have enough protection to keep it up, or you just draw all of warlock’s strong boardclears and keep them down until you can play guldan. No matter what, it’s a win-win scenario. I can see the same thing happening in Hunter. YGou can survive with your secrets, board clears, putricide, stonehill defenders, and more. by turn 6 if you have rexxar that puts you in a position to win the game. If not, you can use stitched tracker to search for kathrena, king Krush, emeriss, or other powerful beasts. If Kathrena hits emeriss, then it’s still very strong to summon a free 8/8. If you can protect yourself to get emeriss off, then suddenly those high-cost beasts like king krush that Kathrena couldn’t get off become huge 18/18 swamp kind dreds or 16/16 charge minions. As long as you can get past that first part of the game, you should be set to win
Perfect response!
The worst thing about this card is that I am 100% sure that it will be my first, and maybe only, legendary from the 70 packs that I’ve bought…
This card has potential. And no, I don’t mean that in a fancy way of saying “This card is bad, but I want it to be good”. Realistically, control Hunter – where this card would be – can be good, with witchwood grizzly a
* and rush cards, DK, and along with maybe rotten Applebaum, hunter will have the survivability to last until turn 10 and win with Emeriss.
How you gonna draw that?
Also, using cards like zoobot and other buffs and other dragon cards that aren’t played a lot of the time that could get some attention
…. Wow. Control Hunter…. “We added crushing walls obv Hunter can now get to turn 10 with cards in his hand” … Yea no… I would love to see control Hunter but this wo
-n’t do it… Hunter just can’t get to turn 10 with a hand. Turn 10 is normally a death sentence. I would call it a meme card but even meming with this card seems frustrating and difficult. I would make this card for fun but unfortunately will probably not see much impact. It’s sad to see a cool card go into possibly the only class who can’t use it. Also very sad of lack of beast legendaries. O well time to bow to our warlock overlords some more.
Card may be good if Control Hunter becomes viable, which I’m not optimistic about.
BUT, I can already see Giant Hunter in Wild playing Naga + Emeriss + 5 16/16 giants.
I read the card, saw the name, and thought druid. then I realized it was a hunter card and cringed. What the hell?!
man i wish this was in warrior so much (I used to love my old dragon warrior deck) I don’t see it being that great in hunter though maybe if they give hunter some good early taunts in the rest of the set?
By the way, i wish to bring warrior to meta again.
This card is GARBAGE
oh cool you can tell the future? Been playing since the beta and every expansion for all these years even pros get new cards wrong more than they do right. The fun of the game is to wait and try out new things. get the stick out of your ass.
Some cards can be hard to predict because they are dependant on the meta, or other new cards. This aint one of them. Unless a future card lets you cheat it out Battlecry and all it’s simply far too slow.
Beyond which that’s an appeal to authority on just about the simplest ccg in existence. Pros in Hearthstone aren’t pros because they are genuises or visionaries. They’re simply able to maintain concentration in a fairly vapid task.
hand buff hunter lolll
i dont think anyone gets the idea of king crush with this, YOU ARE LITARALLY DOUBLING THE STATS OF YOUR MINIONS, CHARGE TO FACE AND RUSH ARE OP. THIS CARD IS ABSOLUTLY BROKEN
OTK hunter here we come
This then next turn Leeroy Faceless
effect on leeroy. next turn lerroy + faceless -> 24 dmg with 3 Card Combo. Exodia Needs 6 so OTK hunter seems good
