Crazed alchemist + windfury? Anyone?
Solid card to add some low end to Stone hill defender’s discover mechanic. Less of a chance to pull Tyrion etc. We were missing some taunts with downsides in the game and in my opinion this will fill in that gap.
This doesn’t lessen the chance to pull Tirion… it’s a Shaman card.
How do you figure?
Each additional taunt will be added to stone hill’s pool of taunts he can discover, (denominator increases) and the numerator of 3 cards stays the same.
Unless, of course I’m missing something.
Yes, you are missing something. The denominator for paladin stays the same because this is a shaman card and you can’t discover cards from another class. Shaman’s chance of discovering Tirion will be and has always been 0%.
All i can think of is the Crazed Alchemist + windfury potential here 😀
Would be great in Evolve Shaman: Turn 4 this + Evolve and you got yourself a 7 cost minion
derp.
When you don’t know how overload works…
One of the worst stated taunt in the game.
7 mana 2/8… gg blizz
I see Eternal Sentinels being played more often now.
Shame this card is unplayably bad.
2/8 with Taunt stops aggro in it’s tracks, and you can increase the attack with Flametongue (which this protects). On paper, this card is amazing.
In reality, 3 mana upfront and 3 mana next turn makes this unplayable. Having a dead 4 mana turn more or less ruins any tempo and will cost you the game more often than not.
You can’t even play Eternal Sentinel to off-set the Overload on 1 mana: You either need Coin or to play this later, but there’s no real purpose to playing this later because there are better taunts.
Spirit Wolf is better than this in almost every way, and at least you can play a 2 mana card on 4 mana. You could even run Sentinel to unlock your mana with Wolves. That’s pretty cool. Wish you could do that with this.
And, no, this is bad with Evolve. It has high stats for it’s cost, and evolving it will almost certainly make it worse.
I feel like this card is better than people are letting on. The overload 3 is pretty rough, but having a 2/8 on the board on turn 3 can be extremely powerful against any aggro deck.
This is definitely better in wild than standard just because of the overload synergy cards like tunnel troggs or lava shock (I think that’s the one). But even in standard, if you drop this on turn 3 or even 2 with a coin, assuming your opponent isn’t a priest or a control warrior, this will probably be on the board for a couple of turns.
On a side note, pretty good if you get this on the field from a dirty rat or deathlord. Overall I’d say around 3.8/5
Was this supposed to replace Deathlord? Because this isn’t cutting it. You spend a total of 6 mana on it with the overload, and its stats are supposed to be that of a 5 cost card. This isn’t classic where taunt means -1/-1 (such is the case with Earth Elemental). If it was 2 overload then maybe. But three seals the deal of no
This card is ok, but i dont c any deck for this. Its much worser than the Earth elemental… Its even a bord control card but how i said i dont c any decktype in shaman for this!
Taunt… shaman?
Nah. Anywho, this card is pretty bad. Overload 3 is pretty bad, especially if you plan on playing this early. It has the same stats of Deathlord, which saw play, so it’s good, right? Well, Deathlord only saw play in Control Priest/Warrior because its “drawback” turned out to be good for them, as it thinned the opponent’s deck while giving them a big body (and the minion that hit the board would get Brawled/Lightbombed away anyways). Priest could also use it with Divine Spirit and Inner Fire for shenanigans. I’m not even convinced that Priest would run this if it could, since it already has Humongous Razorleaf and that overload is so crippling. But Shaman has no real way to take advantage of this card and its downside is a real downside, not something that can be exploited, so yeah, this thing is pretty bad.
Noteworthy is that this is a slight nerf to Stonehill Defender in Shaman. Pulling this from Defender won’t be awful, but since it’ll run interference on better Shaman Taunt cards like White Eyes, Al’Akir, and Thing From Below, it’s still a net Stonehill Defender nerf.
Very good card in a control wild deck with 4 overload neglect cards(Eternal Sentinel, Lava Shock). Will see play in arena for sure as the overload in late game is not that bad if you can stabilize board.
Cool balanced card overall as most of the one in this new set.

4/5
Had to nerf stonehill defender in Shaman. I guess this is one way to do it.
Thank you for the laugh
If Aggro is still a thing then I would rather be overloaded on turn 4 than overwhelmed by dudes or already dead
Ye-es – but this is a Shaman card… and against aggro you’ve already got Maelstrom Portal, Feral Spirit and Lightning Storm… and the fact that this is a single minion makes it worse than any of those options – not to mention the neutrals Tar Creeper and Stonehill Defender – or Shaman’s ability to heal when it comes to surviving the aggro rush and turning the game around.
For instance – Shaman vs Hunter, turn 2, Shaman went first and the Hunter has dropped Alleycat. Shaman DOES want to Maelstrom Portal that… but has Drakkari Defender instead.
So they summon a Totem and pass – the Hunter summons Kindly Grandmother and kills the totem with the Alleycats. Playing the Drakkari Defender on this board state is absolutely worse than Maelstrom Portal, Feral Spirit or Lightning Storm.
The best the Shaman could realistically hope for would be to get the Hunter to waste a Kill Command and trade in their Alleycats and Kindly Grandmother leaving just the 3/2 Big Bad Wolf.
Worst possible outcome would be if the Hunter drops Crackling Razormaw and manages to Adapt an Alleycat to be poisonous (1/3 chance)… then uses the coin to play Scavenging Hyaena.
… and against anything other than aggro this could be a positive liability, especially against Priest.
Early game is Shadow Word: Pain and you’ve thrown away a turn… and you wouldn’t even want to play it from T6 onwards. Worst case scenario Potion of Madness > Divine Spirit > Divine Spirit > Inner Fire … 32 damage to your face from your own “defender”.
6 mana 2-8, very weak
Naw It’s not that simple! Overload is not as bad as manacost! For exempel 3 mana 3/4 minions with upside has not always sean play! Like the sisters in TGT and Beardo!
But Totem Golem was op and it was a 2- mana 3/4 with overload 1! Btw it was Good befor trogg too!
They problem with this card is that you have a weak turn 4. Big chance you won’t be able to do anything.
It’s also not strong enough to be on the board stat wise. 4 mana 7/7 has almost the exact same result as a 2/8. They both work as a taunt. The 7/7 is just a lot more useful.
Unless there is a great card* yet to be revealed that does something with overload it will not have a use.
*Minion that costs overloaded mana or something for example
Always hard to predict cards such as this until all shaman cards are revealed
If shamans didn’t have any tools for dealing with aggro already, then maybe this could see Play
But shamans already have Lot for dealing with aggro early and @3 overload this is a 6 Mana 2-8 taunt that you have to pass on turn 4 to play, so you might as well be paying 7 Mana for this
This also extremely weak to priests and other shamans who run hex or devolve
Because you’re investing pretty much 7 Mana early in 1 minion
Compared to the vanilla spell spirit wolf’s, this card is a lot more risky, + wolves let’s you atleast do something turn 4, and hero power if you.dont have a drop
Anyways , this is a great card for evolve on a 2 drop.if you get lucky
Stonehill was too strong in shaman
I think it’s safe to say that, love it or hate it, this is certainly the most aromatic of all the new cards.
3 + 3 seems very harsh for what would otherwise be a 5 mana minion. Compare to Flameface, that gives you a 7 mana minion for 4 + 2
Im a simple man. I see a troll, i press 5 stars, mann.
I lol’ed
This is worse than the two 2/3 taunt spirit wolves that overload for 2. The wolves have 2 bodies which is better for evolve, have 4 attack instead of 2, less susceptible to shadow word pain, and with 2 overload on turn 4 you can play 2 drop or summon a totem.
Really good stats and cost, however 3 overload is a pain, not sure if it worth it.
This is the same statline and mana cost as Deathlord! Deathlord was a good card in control decks, so is Overload (3) worse then summon a random minion from there deck? It can be but it can be WAY better aswell! I don’t think this card is bad, I think it’s still good vs aggro (not as good as Deathloard) but also not as risky vs control decks as Deathlord was!
Deathlord also benefited from being a neutral minion. I’m not sure that shaman has the right kind of buff/heal tools to extract value from it the way priest did with deathlord.
I’m not writing it off but I do think the class limitation is a serious downside.
I see your point but shaman has ways to get Good value from this! They still have the 2-mana 3-2 that remove overload and the 2- mana spell that gives deathrattle to resummon this!
We Will see How Good it really is but it looks like many think this is bad and I don’t think it is 🙂
I really don’t like this card. Actually I think it’s bad……..
it cannot fit in an aggro deck of course and in played on curve it really makes u jump a whole turn, which happens to be the fourth one, wich is one of the most important ones……
Oh no, it doesn’t work in aggro :((((
Whatever will we do!
I think this Card is quite good. Sure skipping a turn is a really rough consequence and will backfire a few times, but I still think it is worth it in most cases. It is a good way to protect totems in the early game. It can even be played against priest, if you drop the +2 attack totem beforehand. Priest will then most likely blast the totem, but may be missing an answer for Drakkari Defender. This can soak a lot of damage in the early game against aggro, kill a few small creatures and soften up 4/3 warrior creatures for an easy board wipe in turn 5.
Let me change your mind!
indeed…priests will love it
Classic
I see this as something nice to evolve into.
Can see play in Aggro/Token shaman. It acts as a Tar creeper, good taunt to protect your minions (specially totems with board value).
Value-wise this is about on a par with Earth Elemental – but whether you’d want to commit to overload(3) on turn 3 rather than 5 is questionable. That only leaves you with 1 mana on turn 4 which means you’re basically committing to 2 turns if you drop this on 3.
At least overload(3) on the Earth Elemental leaves you with enough mana to cast Ancestral Spirit next turn – and a 7/8 with “rise from your grave” is not to be sniffed at.
Having said that, it might see play in Wild where you can drop a Tunnel Trogg (or two) just before playing this.
Whaty bout bith? 3 skip for and follow with earth on 5 😀
agreed in wild….
with coin. go t1: trogg, t2: coin this out and swing with your 4/3 trogg.
It will only be dealt with by removal, and if not dealt with, you losing your 3 drop doesn;t really matter, especially if followed by a 7/7 faceless, making your trogg a 6/3.
This could see wild play and is a decent arena card, more as a mid to late game drop to prtect your board, where the overload doesn;t matter as much
This card is meh you know guys if it would be overload 2 then i would they its not bad average maybe or it should be 3/8 for 3 mana with overload 3 , cuz if its 2 attack hello , let me change your mind…and shadow word pain can kill it. anyways so stats need to be good. And also overload 3 hits hard for next tunr where u can have 1 mana only and waht can u do now get firefly ? or something like this…its bad but if shaman will get some 1 mana 2 damage kind of mass spell with 1 overload on its own then it will seen play for now it can never be played imho drawback is too big!
Worst english comment ever 😀
It really hurts my eyes to read this comment!
True
It’s a game stopper. I wouldnt play it against a priest.
It stops aggro but also skips one turn.
Overload 3 means if it is played on turn 3 to stop agression you only get 1 mana left on turn 4 :/ I don’t think this is worth the risk vs aggro
Then play it on turn 5 or 6…It’s playable in constructed but has a high risk reward due to all the Tarin and Devolves.
good for evolution
??? how is that good for evolution
Probably meaning another good minion to hit off of your evolves, not a good minion to actually evolve itself.
yeah, but it’s infinitely easier to control minions you evolve from, rather than minions you evolve to. this card is still shit.
evolve 2 to 3
