Been playing Paladin Dragon with this and it’s been a game changer with the following strategy:

Crystology: Draw one attack cards that draw cards to build your hand (Acolyte of Pain)
Cathedral Gargoyle: Prevent early aggro attack
Dragons: Put in smaller dragons that you can play more quickly (Faerie Dragon, Bronze Herald, Twilight Drake)

Can often build my hand to have 9-10 cards w/ 3-4 dragons, drop this, and give 3-4 dragons +3/+3

Dragon paladin is fine–but handbuffing is absolutely terrible. Especially in a deck that wants to make high tempo plays every turn (which is probably what dragon pally would look like were it ever to become viable), a 5 mana 3-5 is completely unplayable no matter how much handbuffing it applies. Disappointing that blizzard couldn’t print a stronger dragon synergy card for paladin, as the dragon archetype for the class could be quite interesting otherwise.

Most Dragons are already beefy minions that don’t really need buffs. Plus hand buffing has been historically too slow.

I know a good thing when I see one, and in standard, Dragon Paladin looks like its going to be a thing! That is nice! I like diversity in deck construction and there will be plenty of ideas of how to build a deck including this card and dragons.

As for Wild; this card combined with a few other old handbuffs and dragons. The trick will be to find just the right balance of buffcards, spells and dragons. Oh, if you can pull if off it will be glorious!

I am in love with this card. Heck, I am in love with the card art on this as well! Bonus point!

Don’t understand where are the hate from this card is coming from, maybe it’s because in the past dragon Pali wasn’t great? I’m not too sure. Anyway, I think this card is actually quite good, dragon decks usually have lots of dragons in their hands at a time, meaning this gets crazy value all across your hand. 4/5

Hand buffing effects have really only been successful in really rather limited circumstances. While this minion is rather limited in what it hits and is fairly under-statted, maybe the +3/+3 buff is enough to be worth playing in a Dragon Paladin deck. Bronze Herald helps this card’s chances more so than any other individual dragon so far though.

However, chances are that even if Dragon Paladin is viable, this won’t be a part of it.

Nice idea but it’s meh in application imhi. Might fit into some lists but stats don’t win games t6+ (wild) – dragons have always played value/support role in priest for example.

Handbuff has historically been underwhelming. I do like that they’re printing more Dragon Paladin stuff (and who knows, maybe one day it will all fit together in Wild), but I don’t know if this will be good enough to see play.

so technically this is a 3/5 for 4 mana with a 1 mana +3/+3 to dragons in your hand. That’s not too detrimental when it comes to tempo. Its viability depends on dragons and their synergies in pally.

    A handbuff card that’s rated 3.9/5? What’s happening?

    I don’t think it’s good.

Yup love the card now if only there was a way to get a copy of the add 2 random dragons to hand from warrior this would be horrifying. Granted people will be searching for ways to get more use from this. *Stares sadly at Zola the gorgan*.

Blizzard HQ: “Okay guys, we started to bring warrior a new dragon package with the latest expansion. Now we should stop to give warrior more dragon related cards so it will never be viable. And guess what guys! We start another class to get an unfinished package. Paladin is a good idea I guess.”

    True story.

This is the more balanced version of your level up and quartermaster. Problem is you probably want some taunt dragons for the extra value. But alexstraza can give you healing if you need it so as i mentioned before farie dragons 6/5 can;t be targeted and some 4 mana bronze dragon with 7/7 stats 6/6 amalgams. If emeris was her ethis was going to be nuts. And with dragons that give immediate board effects like crowd roasters and blazecallers this is not something that will not see play right away. Even the gargole is standart version of shielded minibot and the tempo it can give is not bad. How many board clears can deal with heavy stated boards. and wasting their only board clears and finally getting a deathwing in the face. I can even see the new secret that gives your minions 2 hp giving you amazing values.
You have great 2 drops great 3 drops and good 4 drops and this just makes all those 2,3,4 drops into 7,8,9 drops so the game shifts a lot more in your favour. The big problem is that paladin loses a lot of his card draw, you can run out of steam if you don’t play around the few board clears usefull againts you carefully, like mass hysteria and twisting nethers. Giving you 7/7 turned 4 mana token lifesteal alexstraza blazecallers and crowd roaster will shurely give you the sustain you need since most of the aggro decks are retireing.

Hmmm interesting. Combines very well with the card that adds dragons to hand which also combines extremely well with Twilight Drake. Midrange dragon paladin incoming!

This combines two great flops of Hearthstone: Dragon Paladin, and handbuffs. Too slow vs. Aggro, not impactful enough vs. Jepetto combo decks. Needs more supporting cards before it sees play. 2/5

    2 Cents:

Huh? I’m quite confused to where they’re taking Paladins. I understand that the year of the Dragons will inevitably include more dragon cards, however, why Paladin?

In history, Paladins really aren’t that great with Dragon synergies. Moreover, due to the unyielding power of some of Paladin’s core set, having dragons is more of a setback rather than the other way around. I feel the same exact way I felt when Cathedral Gargoyle was first released. A shielded minibot with a condition.. Hmm.. but, this time around, Blizz seems serious in pushing the archetype with this addition. Will this see play? Well I foresee it being tested out. Will it be good? Let’s all find out as we ride with the Shadows in the new expansion.

Actually, Paladin was one of the original two Dragon synergy classes from Blackrock Mountain (alongside Priest) and one of the three Dragon synergy classes in general. Dragon Consort was a really strong card and it has seen a decent amount of play (not as much as it would see in let’s say . Later the class also got Nightbane Templar in Karazhan, but that one wasn’t as good (the pay-off was just too small).

I always felt that there should be a third “Dragon class” (first undoubtedly being Priest, and second being Warrior) and I was wondering why they didn’t push Dragon Paladin harder. I guess they’re doing it now, and I don’t mind it at all.

Hi Stonekeep. Thank you for the insights. I was quite aware of that since I’ve been playing Hearthstone since Beta, however, my point was, even though Paladin used to be a Dragon class, and although Dragon Consort was an awesome Dragon, Paladin was the least impactful Dragon tribe user from all the ones they tried pushing. It’s shocking to me that they’re doing the push just now, knowing that it could’ve done way back before. But yeah, maybe due to the absence of the very oppressive Odd Paladin, the chance of Dragon Paladins surfacing within the meta is much more feasible and apparent now.

And I even remember the Paladin card which summons 2 dragon when you have a dragon in hand. Paladins, in the history, are getting dragon cards but they aren’t receiving enough to warrant its own archetype in the said class.

Year of the Dragon leads me to believe there will be many more dragons in the coming expansions.

Don’t forget, like Un’Goro, these cards act a starting point for the next 2 years of metas. They will get support. Draccarys.

Hmm does all this dragon support mean we are getting dragon related paladin legendary?
I loved playing my dragon paladin deck, so I don’t mind. There might just be something to upgrade it from meme to viable.

I think so. I mean you can see a golden dragon in the schedule picture for march 29th 9 a.m.
Most revealed pally cards shimmering golden… lol

My toughts exactly. It looks like bronze dragonflight is represented by paladin. We saw bronze herald that summons bronze dragons already. The mentioned golden dragon, with green eye and those sharp teeths in the schedule looks very much like Anachronos, child of Nozdormu, who is the bronze aspect. I am really excited about it and hope it is indeed new paladin legendary.

Ugh … the card has quite a great effect, but:

may I just ask, is there someone who’s specifically asking for Dragon Paladin to be a thing? Because, they keep printing an Epic once every death of WoW character but it has never been a thing.

Until now. (Wish I could see Dragon Shaman support tho. I love that).

I don’t think that synergies are pushed because “someone specifically asks for them”, but more people than you might think have asked for Dragon Paladin. Because we had Dragon Pally cards dripped one by one every few expansions instead of just pushing the archetype, it was a rather common request, especially back in the day.
